    A Relic Community Project

    Hey everyone,

I know we've been told time and time again NOT to post things that've suddenly popped into our heads but I let it sit for 3 days before I decided to post this.

Looking around the relic community as a whole, it surprises me at all the sheer talent this community holds. Artists, writers, even coders (as few and far inbetween as they may be, from my time spent in the Homeworld modding forum) populate these forums on a regular basis. Modellers, texture artists, AI scriptors, every thing we need. For what?

Relic (community) is a very large, very active forum. Why not put these skill sets together to create some truly creative? A lot of the people on these forums are here because of some game or another, why not play on this single shared interest and create one ourselves?

    Thoughts?

Cause it's like, impossible to do? And it would cost a shitload of money and time?

Mainly because we can never agree on anything, nothing ever fires up the imagination and attention of a sufficient number of us all at once, and we all get bored with things too quickly.

Lets make Homeworld 3! Also for that guy who said it would cost alot of money, think of it as a big mod. Annoyingly, i don't know how i could help, can't script, not good at writing, not a good artist, i tried to learn 3d modelling (£8000 for a 12 week course on maya at escape studios.. >.<), but it didn't turn at well, i need someone to teach me face to face cos i learn the most effectively that way.. i could play the guitar part for the ingame music.

    I made a game! :D Clicky!

MadCatChiken, I would volunteer for network / database / gamelay coding :-) .
But projects like that are close to impossible to pull off, if you don't know the persons in personal.

Back when it was funny to list your local sports team on eBay we all had a good laugh here in the GD when someone listed a severely broken motorcycle. As the guy lived close to me I volunteered to buy it. It was duly delivered (much to the shock/dismay/bewilderment of my parents) I took a load of pictures of it, which I still have, and then forgot about it.

That's how I see this thing going, sadly. We might be a community, but we're a community of individuals.

A community project per se isn't really possible for the reasons given above; what might be possible is a talented coder or two starting a project and then drawing on the community for help, inspiration, sound, art, etc.

Well, to clarify a bit more (since I wished to test the waters before I dived in), this would not be a let's-include-every-one-and-thing-and-hold-hands-and-be-one-big-community project. Of course this community is VAST and CHAOTIC, but I was leaning more on drawing upon the talents of people to contribute like what Shoe is talking about. what I see already in the Art Spam or the Writing forum. A lot of these creative works are being put out there to no end other than pure enjoyment.

But I'm sure through the divine magic of democracy (AKA polls), open source freeware (there's a lot of surprisingly good software out that's open source, Sketch-up?), and the vast pool of talent out there that is Relic Community, we could get something going. At this point, I foresee logistic hell and software code as the major problem.

(thanks for the heads up BmB, I will look into that).
