Patching from Vanilla OF

    Patching from Vanilla OF

Hi, I recently had to reinstall windows etc and as such need to reinstall CoH and OF.

I've got the disks, installed, and that's gone fine; however as soon as I get to patching everything goes wrong.

    I've tried the 2.1.0.0 -> 2.1.0.3 patch and it fails with a 10104 error.

So I reinstalled, and tried again, but this time using the 2.1.0.0 -> 2.1.0.1 patch and get the same error.

I've tried downloading the patches from multiple sources, but getting no joy.

Any idea what to try next?

Crazily; now I've posted this it's patched on about the 6th attempt...

EDIT - have then tried patching the next patch and get the same issue... bit odd. Seems to be the same file each time - OFFullSpeechEnglish.sga

By an odd coincidence I'm in a similar position ie re-installing CoH and OF on a freshly installed machine - but I can't make it work either.

I installed CoH from DVD and then applied patches to get to 2.301.0. Then I tried to install OF from DVD but when it pops up its start menu there is no button labelled install. There's a button to uninstall and a button to play but no install. I looked at the "Patch Download Location" post and the diagram there sort of suggests that I should install OF after patching to v1.4 but it's not too clear.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

I did some further looking creating the checksums on the files on the disk and on a clean install run with network connections off, anti virus off etc.

One file on the dvd does stand out from the MD5 check though (which failed when I tried to do the patch):-

The checksum on the DVD is different from the one listed on the filename itself, so I'm guessing that my DVD is a bit dodgy?

@gwinn, your problem seems to be different. It's a whole lot easier if we can deal with one user and problem per thread. Please create a new thread for your issue, and post the files asked for in the READ THIS FIRST sticky thread.

@mrblackbat, error 10104 can be caused by bad DVDs or DVD drives. It may also result from RAM problems. Have a look at this thread for some things you can try.

Hi Geoff, thanks for the input; as the checksum on the disk is different from what it states it should be in the filename on the disk, I'm guessing this is a bad DVD?

If I check it on another machine and get the same checksum, would that be the best way to confirm it?

If you have another machine and/or drive you can test it on that's a good thing to try, if you get the same bad data then you know it's the DVD.

10104 errors are hard to diagnose quickly since bad RAM can cause checksum errors too. Nobody is really sure exactly what happens, but it seems that the files can be corrupted in the process of reading them into RAM from the DVD and then writing them out to the HDD.

But, yes, testing the DVD in another drive is a good test to run early.
