2 things did not sit well with me for the latest chapter.
1. the bentusi's guarded acceptance of the beast frigate and that they said they have worked with the ai in foundry in the pastut the foundry as broken into many pieces and non functional so how could that be?
The Bentusi were around in the time of the Great Conflict.
it still seems a little weak to me the way the bentusi talked about that it made it seem if they worked with the foundry much more recently.
I don't know much about the Bentusi, but I'm pretty sure they live longer than we do. So to them it was probably recent.
This is true, I mean the Bentusi are somewhat attached to Farjump cores so their lifespan is somewhat like Karan's...essentially unlimited.
I think it's more a case of where dealing with a bunch of leaders all of whom have in one fashion or another been the sole surving leaders of their peope after somone, (generally ash, though it was the Vayger for Ifrit and Taidanni for Karen), has taken the rest of the leaders out. You don't survive like that unless your very smart, because even if it's luck that gets you out alive, luck won't keep you alive. That means they're all far too smart to rock the boat and risk their peoples only chance at survival over petty squabbles. Their lower ranking assosiates might but by and large they're all below deck's and tottally out of our line of sight given the noreena limited PoV, (and just look carefully at all the problems Mak is STILL having with his crusades for an example that we can see).My biggest problem is that currently every major character except the big bad is really more or less on the same side. That effectively eliminate 100% of diplomatic intrigues.
Of course you might be trying to establish character that are easy for readers to like or hate, but IMO some complexity can be fun too !
On the other hand as i've pointed out we've got the beast, Kadeshi, and presumebly soon the other Imperial Tidanni who are all going to be A)Rather less smart since they're ben left largely untouched, B) Have rather bigger bone's to pick with the good guys anyway. The crrent list of allies is, (barring the Vaygr who HAVE had their shareb of integration issues), all old freinds. They got on fairly well even in peactime. With the introduction of the Kadeshi and Imperial Tidanni en mass where going to see two groups who have traditinally attacked anything and everything around them suddenly being asked to work with the very peiople who where enemies only scant months or even weeks earlier. Add that to the general lack of smarts amongst their leaders and where going to see sparks fly i'm sure.
Also, assuming Chrome's creatives process is anything like my own, she probably wrote her character personalaties before she wrote the full details of their interactions, and then let said personalaties drive the resultant interactions based on how a specific character would react in a specific situation.
Though one intresting friction question springs to mind. Would Rakim really have used the eye to convince the alliance to help out? My gut says probabkly not and that he wouldn't have got far if he tried give i doubt it would work to well on Noreena, Karen or Makann, and that Qwarr would likliy have had a fit. But it is somthing Chrome could have oreena bring up with the ambassador some time if she wanted.
Now back to my commentaries, (i've been at these for 2 week's and have over 70 bullet points and i'm STILL going).
I don't know what i'm talking about, ignore me.
Thousands of years ago, Egyptians worshipped what would become our ordinary housecat. The cats have never forgotten this.
The alliance is formed from several traditionally incompatible group:
> Hiigara + Somtaaw + Soban + Taiidan Republic + Bentusi
The traditional "good" guys.
> Taiidan Empire + Vagyr crusades
The antagonist of both games
> The Kedashi
Fanatic zealot who worship a large cloud of gas.
> The Beast
Starfish alien / zombie virus /antagonist of Cataclysm
That pretty much only leave out the Turanic raiders and the Tiamats.
it was explained why this alliance can hold together for more then say, five minutes, but the story would be more interesting if everybody wasn't all on the same side.
The gist is this - the leaders all understand why. As seen before in earlier Parts, the lower ranks generally don't hold that sentiment as well. Keep that in mind guys. The leaders have the big picture, and generally understand well enough why they have to work together. Note that Threya didn't immediately shack up with the Allies when Ash came on the scene (imagine what her pack of Imperials could've done far sooner?), and that the Kadeshi wouldn't have been loyal if they hadn't spotted Ash's lie to them.
People seem to see this seamless fitting together of forces, and are forgetting the desperation with which it's being done, let alone the sentiment of everyone in those factions, not just their leaders. This is being told from the perspective of Noreena, not some ensign in the lower decks of the Kuun-Lan who's seeing the five-way glaring contests between Imperial, Hiigaran, Kadeshi, Vaygr, and Republican personnel, all of whom have their own issues.
Also - Carl, your gut saying Rakim wouldn't use the Eye has forgotten that Rakim is a Kadeshi. Where the Garden is concerned, they will go to extremes, as we have seen. The Eye wouldn't have left the inner sanctum of the Order otherwise. It's that sacred to them. He certainly didn't hesitate to use the Eye to defuse a major multi-faction riot in the Drunken Cruiser. Think about that a little bit, and be very wary of the Kadeshi. He certainly didn't tell the Allies up front that one of his delegation was a Cleanser, or that Nika had one serious case of PTSD.
Like I said earlier, Threya certainly didn't jump to Allied aid right away - she waited, she watched, and then she made up her mind. Since she's only one Imperial faction instead of leading all of them (something readers seem to forget, despite my having Theya mention this enough times), it'd make sense for the Allies to generally put aside hostility towards her. She's the one Imperial commander who's showing some goddamn sense as far as they're concerned. I think that, along with the usual "Don't fuck with us" threat that she got when she first joined up, would've been enough for the Allied leadership.
As for the Bentusi - it's only weak when it's not in the canon as for how they behave. I simply expanded from there, and given their chosen pacifism, they would most certainly stick to expositing anyways. They always know everything (mostly everything, anyways) in the games. Let's see - they knew the history of the Kushan Exile. They knew what a Siege Cannon was. They knew what Karan was simply from the first encounter. They even obviously knew the danger of Makaan in HW2. As far as that goes, they certainly would've trawled Karos, found the Foundry AI was operational, and went from there. Especially if they're that old of a race.
And to be very honest, in a situation like this, why would the Alliance be having internal fighting left and right? People know the stakes, especially after Haven. The Vaygr got nearly wiped halfway out, and the Republicans lost their homeplanet to ADWs. For some reason, people seem to need internal tension among the Allies when the situation, and the faction commanders, are doing everything they possibly could to reduce that. Let's not forget that most people in spacefaring societies generally wouldn't be so stupid as to eliminate their chances for survival when it's so very clear that they have to work with former enemies in order to stay alive.
Dumb is tearing the Alliance apart on one stupid argument or another, not telling everybody everything all the time, backstabbing the very people who may be your only chance to save yourself from Ashoran. The Allied brass, and apparently most of their fleets, know better than to do that.
Dumb is apparently entertaining, which I find a bit shocking, especially after the rampant complaints about those things that break suspension of disbelief in the latest Hollywood blockbusters. Hollywood's figured out that dumb entertains, and yet people are complaining that "This isn't right for the character, they wouldn't do that, the stakes are too high for someone to do something this stupid, the science sucks, etc." It's obvious nobody's going to be pleased, and quite frankly, I'm done just trying to satisfy people because they have some kind of nitpick about the way I'm doing things.
If you don't like the way this story is going - the story that I'm trying to tell without as many as the stupid cliches that I started out with, because now I've learned my lesson - then nobody is forcing you to read it. Okay? If you don't like it, don't read it! If you don't like it, and read it anyways, it's not your fault that you have something to complain about.
I'm trying to tell that story here, and I'm trying my best to deal with the fact that these people have got to work together, that they see that they have to work together, that they know that infighting would cause enough problems (Makaan and Ifriit's joint rants at the Harangue in Part II should've conveyed that point)....and apparently infighting and disagreement among this Alliance is what people want, instead of this "Good guys work together, during a long hard painful time to beat the major bad guy" arc I'm working on here.
Can someone please explain this apparent contradiction in what people want to me, in terms that someone as obviously dense as myself can get?
(You'll have to pardon the edge of defensiveness here. I'm getting very, very exasperated with this same repeated trend of commentary for a while, and I'm beginning to feel like people are forgetting massive swathes of writing I have put in to try and DEAL with tihs problem, and just going on with their own assumptions. That'd have to be pretty annoying if it was your own fanfic, guys.)
Hey Chrome. I don't think anyone intend to be offensive here.
The stories of a bunch of good guys working to together to overcome one bad guy is as old as Tolkien. My question isn't really as much why they are all working together under the situation as much as why you created the situation in which they must all work together in the first place.
(the answer is probably "I feel like it")
I don't really mind the classic good vs evil setup. Although I can't say so for everybody.
@Chrome: When i said i can't see Ramkin doing it i meant i thini he's too smart to try somthing so suicidal, even assuming he can overcome the minds of the resident telepaths, (not exactly a sure thing), Qwarr is going to flip out at such an Ash like action and he's more than capable of dealing with all 3 Kadeshi, cleanser or not.
p.s. there's a contradiction in your statment. One of the things you emphesise is how their religious mania is rooted in Ashron and what he told them. Since Ramkin has allready decided he's lying by this point i woyuldn't expect the fanatics angle to be too strong, (there's still a lifetime of training there so it's not going to be tottally gone of course). But it does sound out of line with how you wrote them throughout ptIII.
Wish like hell i knew, i don't have ANY issues with the stuff raised so far. In fact all up when i get my commentaries finished, (dammed heat wave has had me at a standstil for the last 4 days), i've got only one peice of real critisisim about the whole of legacies. A lot of WTH moments and general, well commentary on my thoughts on stuff. But only one thing i'd call "wrong" in all 4 parts. Though i've picked up an annoying numbe of continuity errors and spelling errors, but then thats what people like me are here for. Help you proof read.(You'll have to pardon the edge of defensiveness here.
I wasn't aware i had done anything to make chrome repeat herself. How about we drop the subject so chrome does not have to repeat her self.
As i've allready indicated i have a very high opinion of Her writing. It is of a high quality i do not expect to find in fanfics. Hell as somone with a several hundred strong book collection, (and thus a good idea of the varying levels of quality out there), i expect a lower level than this from a lot of books with the "new york times bestseller" line on the front cover. This is profeshinol writer quality of a very high standard and it's only a pity chrome can't have a profeshinol editor team go through for her.
I did not mean you Carl. You are doing fine. I just want to talk about something different and less stressful for chrome. sorry for any confusion.

Lol. Fair enough then. Though i suspect you'll have plenty to complain about when my commantaries are done, (it's finnially cooling down over here so i can get back to work). Even though i have few actual complaints or critisism's, (just one as i've said allready), first thoughts and random musings spawned by my reading has allready run to over 37,000 words. SO i suspect you'll have somthing to say about that when it's finnially finished.
We will have to wait and see. so I have quick question, During #4 so far, Have you noticed that the normal Mega-ships have been missing from the action? I mean were did they go?
A question I've wanted to ask is how much of an actual fighting force is the Qwaar-Deesh? Do they have the whole range of ships from fighters to corvettes to frigates to capitals etc? Or do they have a few types of ships and that's it?
Also, I'm guessing, ship-for-ship, they are (or rather were, as Qwaarmetal has been introduced to standard ships since Legacies I and II) slightly superior to their Somtaaw/Hiigaran/Vaygr counterparts. How do they achieve this? Better weapons or armour, or both?
the kadeshi only have a small range of ships 2 types of fighters a light and a heavy, 2 frigates, multi beam frigate of kick assery and a refueling pod, and the needleship. to the best of my memory Chrome has not introduced anything different.
The fighters are superior to Allaince units with the exception of the limited production run of Bentusi Ion Acolytes due to being very fast and packing very powerful guns. Multi Beam frigate due to it being the only frigate to support multiple full power Ion Canons. Needleship apart from being able to ram is just as weak as all the other motherships in hw 1
ORCACommander, I said Qwaar-Deesh, not Kadeshi! But thanks anyways!
I know but those were hmm guess I am getting factions mixed up again since its been more than 3 months since i read that section. guess i need to find a cliff notes version :P
it happens somtimes.
As far as i can tell from the note in Part 1 Qwaar Desh SHips have significant firepower and armour advantages and PtII specificlly mentions the beast have been strengthinging them giving them a significant armour boost, (which is 20-30% greater than what the old beast would have given too). They also have significantly enhanced armerments in the form of miniture seige cannon. They also hand some tech over to the Impierial Tidanni who are loyal to them, though it's not stated as such i would imgane this is 2nd hand hand me downs rather than the best they have and that STILL adds upto a 30/50% firepower boost. All told where probably looking at ships that pre-Qwaarmetal and Gravatic bubble manage to outgun the average standard ship of equal class from the Crusades/HDF by around 2 to1 and similar improvements in armour and structural strength if we assume advanced hull alloys as well.

That was my thought too. Just wanted the extra confirmation from someone else! :P Which edition, Legacies I, II, III or IV, describes the Qwaar-Deesh ships in the greatest detail? Thinking of modelling a couple of them!
Good lord, Its been -years- since I last posted here. Back when IgnusDei & JRL3001 did a 'Redesign a Zeon Mobile Suit' art challenge, and the 1st version of the PD Mod wasn't even a third of the way done yet. And it looks like my account was shutdown due to inactivity. So, here's a new one. *shrugs*
And yes, the inaugural 1st post goes to this fic, which was hinted to me over at Spacebattles, and I've spent the last two whole days (thankfully my 'weekend') reading until I'm now caught up.
1. Progie & Niki - where's Niki been since Progie got plugged?
2. Beast Jr. - Someone make a plushie of it, just so I can hug it.
3. Seen lots of Kai lately, but there's a distinct lack of Talia. *pouts*
4. Now that Qwaarmetal has been put into construction, when is the Kuun-Lan going to get yet another makeover, and become even nasty? Just to keep its title of most bad*** mining ship in the galaxy, of course.
5. Mini-Cores + Progie's new Sa-Kunai/Neo-Swarmer = Allied version of a Progenitor Keeper, with short range tactical hyper abilities? (I'm a techie, so that just screams at me to try it)
6. Who will be the first to remember what was left on the Clee-San, after it was hit by the Siege Cannon (and before its reactors overloaded), in that, from a purely electronic POV, the neural nets were radically advanced. And so...who's going to be the first one willing to risk stepping into the Ion frigate to go and look around inside? Although probably one of Qwaar's drones might be best (if very quietly armed with a tac nuke)
7. Chekov's Gun - Noreena got the Urumi blade back in part III. Who does she use it on first?
i'm aware pressing chrome isn't a good thing but i'd like to present to concepts
#1 The pride of Hiigara returning along with the original mothership
#2 Perhaps they could take the time to use the Core Instant build to rebuild the second progenitor dreadnaught

There is nothing good nor bad but thinking makes it so
Over the past week I've read all of Legacies so far, and I'm impressed. One way that I support for preventing Mary Sue creep in fanfic is to cause and describe significant and ongoing emotional trauma for the main character. Noreena's flashbacks to her conference room incident with Makaan were an excellent example of that. Her lack of trauma from seeing her home planet first Infected, and then destroying the planet herself, borders on the absurd. She really ought to have terrible nightmares and be petrified of using Qwaar-Jet's main gun.
@GB: Whilst you make a semi fair point, (and to a degree chrome has already covered it quite well in earlier instalments, i's jus that because those where quiet times with not much happening we got skipped over a few months in brief only), you also have to remember who where dealing with. I.e. Noreena.
What’s become clear to me more and more as I read legacies is:
Noreena isn't nice, in fact in some ways Noreena is downright evil. What stops her from turning into a ash grade sadist and general evil nasty is the same thing that made Qwaar abandon him. She's got a certain code of honour. Like Qwaar there are certain things she just won't do in pursuit of a goal, the what that she won't do often depends on what the goal is, but in the end Noreena is nice most of the time not because she is nice, but because she doesn’t see being nasty in that situation as acceptable.
That said you do have a point, the whole PTS for this has been heavily understated, but don't think it's approaching mary Sue levels at all. There's plenty that’s happening off screen for chrome to tell us about later.
to above -- yh i agree, Noreena does have her borderlines and with haven, didnt all somtaaw agree "Death before infection"? and maybe in her mind she saw it as a mercy killing (quite literally) and also the fact of we missed a couple of months out after haven doesnt mean that she nearly broke down and karan done another mind block...
anyways i need a dose of fanfic, any other really good fics out there?
currently moddelling: probes, fighters.
norses but only a couple are fnished
To clarify, Orca means fanfiction by a guy called Norsehound. Just find a post of his or his profile, and click one of them in his sig.
Let's sail in this sea of charms
Let's drown underneath the stars
ahhhh, ok, that makes it easyer to find for a start, lol
anyways any1 heard from chrome recently? just wondering if she's ok and not suffering for pc block (simerler to writers block but just looking at pc's)
and i just reread all of legacies in 2 and a half days (need sleep/coffee or a brick in the head lol)
Yeah she's been about, (I actually PM'd her with a comment and a random though i figured should be kept ut of the public comments a few weeks back and got a response so she's defintly still out there), but she has suffered som really bad writers block in the past and i'm sure RL is keeping her busy too.
Hopefully it's just writer's block and not something major. We wish the best for you Chrome!
its good to know that an excellant writer hasn't gone on the missing list.
anyways anyone got any places where pre-made ships/models have been done for HW2? as im bloody awful at 3d modelling. anyone got any pointers to sum decent and simple texturing tutorials? as i'm just finding all the ones that seem to be wrote for einstein
im gunna go scouting in the art dump for some half decent concepts to get a creative streak going (hopefully)
or maybe not?
FYI, I don't generally look in here.
This is the fans' place, not neccessarily MY place.
See my last post at the LegIV thread. That thread is no longer open for casual conversation, backseat moderating, random HW discussions, or anything else of the sort besides my updates.
Take ALL Legacies conversation to here. And if it branches out into proper Homeworld talk, have the decency to give the very-quiet Homeworld Series forum a visit, and put your discussion over there. It's the forum of the games we love, and it could use a little TLC.
I'll glance in here more often than I used to, but for one reason only:
I do not tolerate backseat moderating in my threads. You bossier sorts around here will not carry on in here what you've been carrying on in the LegIV thread. You have been warned now. Keep it in mind.
Back to your normally scheduled Homeworld: Legacies speculation, discussion, and commentary.
I guess i owe you a reply and an apology for the main thread chrome.
Sorry about that over there i kept thinking i should PM you about it, but every time i did think about it, it seemed to die down s i kept leaving it. I know i didn't help with my odd replies myself.
Homeworld: Legacies is like...Crack. Once you try it once your addicted. Crack addcition is bad. Homeworld: Legiacies addiction is good... in some sense. And for posting this in about 2 days im going to be
well chrome ill say sorry for telling some people to take their discussions here as i anit a mod or someone of great importance, since thats outta the way i dont think about HW2 all the time if i did i'd be wireheaded into my pc which i anit, anyways i was working on my modding skills thanks to ur fanfic for the inspiration that got me into making somthing rather than just trying out other peeps stuff.
anyways hope you have a good time with ur project.
Chrome mind if I ask a quick question, concerning legacies?
The question is this: When you came up with the idea for the bio-ships, did base them off the wraith hive ships In stargate atlanis?
The idea may have come from there, but as far as I can tell the only real similarity between the two is the way that they are built.
mmm the bio ships remind me of farscape, where the ship is an alien (if i rember correctly)
anyways how about having a new race pop up outta the blue that maybe existed back during the progenitor wars? that would be a twist never mind who they side with
p.s WOOT first post of september
...Wow. I think we all just got majorly owned.I have a life. I have friends. I do not sit at the computer every day thinking what's the next thing to do with Legacies. I do not sit obsessively thinking about Noreena, Qwaar, Makaan or any of these other people like you guys apparently do.
@Soban100: I disagree, actually. I occasionally check for updates and am interested in the series, but I'm not addicted to it like I was when I first joined. I suspect, Gen. Scarface, the same will happen with you over time - that is, you'll start noticing little nitpicks with the series you have, and find out how good some of the other fanfics are, and how cool this community in general is.
*chuckles* Ya, im still freakin addicted to HW:Legacies ( ) ...so much that I want to write a story in the HW Legacies universe. 25 to 40 years after Chromes storys. If thats ok with you chrome!
An article on brain computer interface, involving speech recognition, thought this might be of interest
Actually, I'd rather you focused on your own fanfiction, or your own original work Soban100. Just because I've made some ready-made fanon doesn't mean you should be trying to write in it. Why not try playing with your own interpretation of what happens with the Homeworld Universe?
(It's not the thing you want to hear, no, but it's the thing you'll be glad you heard once your idea-juice gets to flowing. )
Qwaar's Wrath: No. Based them off what would've happened if someone let the Beast Mothership live, and fast-forwarded 200 years' worth of heavy hull warping.
@ dacrnighte, i just read that and i knew there was scientists working with nueronics in a simerler way, but it was to move stuff rather than speak. anyways nice find, i dont normaly browse the net for info like that, just play games read stuff and relax lol, i reckon in 20 years you could "plug" into stuff and use it.
@oh,john,no, if i was a true fanboy then i would be on here everyday, and since my last post at the 1st of september i havent even been on to check, its just that i like reading a really great story, regaurdless of spelling
has anyone else seen the ad where evrything is spelt wrong but if you read at normal pace you still read it right?
Bah, good to see someone beleves in me writeing a Fanon. I dont even think I could get 3 chapters before running out of ideas and just giveing up. I hope to see some new work on HW:Legacies soon... (still addicted so )
PS, Im calling my fannon Homeworld: Legends...or Homeworld: Myths. it will not be related to yours Chrome.
PSS We want new updates...and HW: Legacies Part 3 in a PDF Format. Well, atleast I want the latter.
Gaah, I see the U word!

it would be nice to come on here and find another chapter but hey lifes a b*tch, and since my life has taken a turn for the worst i slid back into my old routine of doing nothing, reading stuff which anit gunna get me anywhere, playing games which anit gunna get me a career, and just plain being a normal person rather than being me.
anyways chrome is a person aswell, reguardless if she has/going to/never will scrap legacies its been a brilliant story so far and if she does then think of a ending to suit you, cos thats what i thought about, good guys win, bad guy gets vapourised by sajuuks main gun, galactic peace etc etc.
and incase anyone thinks i want legacies scrapped then go blow ur toes off with a sawn off, i dont want to see this canned. hell no.
and if u wanna have a go use the private messaging service to flame me and not clutter this thread with childness behaviour
anyways all hail chrome
Naaww, I don't think its going to be the sajuuk's main gun
When it ends, it could be thousands of different ways, but it needs to be epic!, Because the story is epic!
....if I didn't know any better, I'd say chrome seems to have a cadre of worshippers O_O.
