    Gun platforms with latest patch

Does anyone use weapon platforms any more?

As an Eldar player, one of my initial tactics at the opening stages of the game was to build 2-3 shuriken platforms and quickly establish a safe base to play from.

I have no problems with having to change my strategy now seeing as many of the tier one units have been given hefty power costs to purchase, but shuriken platforms seem to be largely ineffective vs.. well anything in relation to their cost.

    Has anyone else felt this?

Does anybody still use weapons platforms (including heavy bolters) anymore?

    Stuck in a box.
The HB devs are still somewhat effective on maps with large amounts of buildings (one and only big advantage over the shuriplats realy), but outside angelgate and argus gate I've almost never seen them built.

I still build a shuriplat most of the time, just can't build 3 of them anymore as a safety net (not that I ever built more than 1...)

Maybe they should be given FoF to aid them in their running away which they indoubtably will be doing most of the time.

Yeah glenn3e has hit on something there I think- the latest patch (I feel) has certainly encouraged hit and run tactics and faster gameplay, which the shuriken plat doesnt really fit in with. SM can afford to hunker down with an apothecary but the remaining races fragility, particularly eldar in the early stages means you need to be ordering moves left right and center.

Previously (and I admit im not a 1v1 player, only 3v3s) I had set up gun platforms crossing arcs of fire to cover eachother, which gave me quite a good way of holding ground.
Now, banshees and guardians are the way forward it seems.

The only thing I do still find myself using are Brightlance and distort cannons. The brightlance nicely complements a no-power army of guardians, and the distort cannon is a battle turner if placed correctly.

Don't buy Shurikens. Just don't. There's no situation where a Shuiplat would be more helpful than your commander or another GU/Shee/Ranger squad.

three is probably one too many in any tier 1 situation. Once Assault Marines start descending upon Rangers I would appreciate the option to include a Shuriken. However that is 30 more power from an already power heavy build that needs to be directed into tier 2 transition and a suitable Razorback/Dreadnaught counter.

if the requisition is less than 270, increase requisition and reduce power by 15. Basic cost changes would make the selection with its defining strengths and limitations more optional and consequently limit the standard number of mobile infantry.

Melee blobs. Guardians and Rangers kill one or two on the way in and then die, Banshees run in and then die. Mass suppression is much more useful than yet another squad of meh.
