Normandy 44 : European Theater (Sweeten2213 retired - 2.0 Alpha released))

    @Andriuchia
    Just read Otto Carius book regarding the war experience (in one encounter two TigerI against two IS-2 were firing at each other from 30-40 meters with no real effect!) Armour penetration are theoretical values ad were differently measured. Just for the record 45mm version 1942 could penetrate 65mm from 400 meters and 44mm from 800 meters. And yes this was the whole point of using the light AT guns - let them close 45mm and especially 57mm are to belived to have caused the most pain to Germans in 1943. Like with IS-2 more then 70% were lost to Panzerschreks and only about 10% to enemy tanks...

    Check this: http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/tiger1.htm fro mjust penetration values it would seem that the Tiger I had no chances at all against IS-2 which was not the case although the biggest kill for Tiger I was by Otto Carius who have taken 6 or 7 on them. While the best IS-2 had claimed 8 Tigers I, (but to this there is no confirmation).

    I said here some this hysterical fact no to discuss about history here but for - what you guys, mod developing team improve "Tiger" and "King Tiger" tanks. Make them more powerful and more hardly to kill them with tanks like Sherman and light AT guns... That's all i want. Thank you.

    P.S gliz2 thank you for discussion and i think we will have more conversation in the future but for now - lets back to mod business

  3. #3853
    The 57mm employed by the US and Commonwealth could penetrate the Tiger, and did. Only at short ranges, and only from the side, but it did. APCBC Shot Mk.IX ( Armor Piercing Capped Ballistic Cap ) would penetrate 86mm of RHA at 500m, or 93mm of FHA at 500m.

    The Soviet 57mm (ZIS-2) is a different gun altogether, and slightly better, since their testing criteria was stricter. The end result is most people have downgraded Soviet guns in their games, when actually Soviet guns would be anywhere from 10% to 20% better than the listed penetration values, due to the difference in how those numbers were arrived at.

    Hey guys - Alpha testing is more or less what you said : bug testing. But that is also in a broad sense as we are looking for game bugs, balance bugs, ai bugs, etc... The reason it is more of an "Alpha" than a "Beta" and why it is closed as opposed to open - because we still have to create UI icons and descriptions for new units/divisions that were added, new doctrine selection screen art, textures for some models that are in the alpha but have no texture, still adding a few new models, etc... It will still be a while before we are ready for an open beta - the alpha is more than playable and is going well. However, one of our strengths is our "attention to detail" - and our details are severely lacking right now. Mostly art and text stuff. Weapon stats are actually fairly doable, there are very few fixable bugs left, all the units that would be in an open beta are in and have correct names. BUT - there are several models that still have no texture, there are MANY icons that are "wrong" (IE wrong divisional symbol on icon, wrong rank/type on icon, etc...), MANY units (especially newly created units) that have the wrong "description" for the unit, doctrine selection screen has the wrong divisions in pic, and the AI needs some work to be up to standards.

    And if any of you think that any of those things would go "unnoticed" or "no big deal", look around these forums and look at the tiny things that people complain about

    Hi all, just got my PC back from the repair shop. Spent $500 worth of upgrades on it, and soon I'll be upgrading the "Proper" DDR3 ram for another $100.

    Just to give everyone an insight to the "Commanders" I've been drabbling on about like a broken record for the past little while, I've taken the liberty of putting in one of my Fictional character's backgrounds. Now as I just got my PC back today, there are no abilities or strengths/weaknesses or anything gameplay wise in it. You'll just get a general overview of how I come up with them and how they might seem.

    PS: Bare in mind that these are for currently for something in an alternate timeline with a prolonged war, and some of it will seem quite cheesy and cliche at the moment. I haven't had the time to revise all of them, so be constructive, not harsh.

    Ill Say this again..... You cant have real size on 99% of the self propelled guns in the game, The relic CREWS ARE ALL FAR TOO BIG, they just wouldent fit into the vehicals. This ones scaled on the Marder III, as is relics own geshutz\Hotchkis. Because if it was at correct scale the crew would be riding on top of the rear mg rack and outside the vehical. This one is already so tight in the compartment, we have had to exclude the DP28 which was mounted on the rhs of the compartment,because we couldent fit a gunner in next to it in the crew space available. Please please stop asking for the impossible, which is correct scales on SP guns and Crew served artillery. It just cannot be done unless someone is willing to resize and reannimate every vehical crew and gun crew in the game. LOL i just noticed you shoved a driver in. WP . .

    We have to scale everything to Relic's scale to some degree - we still use literally all of Relic's models in the mod as well, after all - so they have to fit in. We can't have our models look "tiny" in comparison to Relic models - that would look just as rediculous. So all of us in the modding world have to work with the scales and engines we have to work with - unless you use a mod that uses zero Relic models (to which I know of none) we will always be dealing with their scale.

    But that being said - it is fairly "to scale" of the real vehicle and certainly fits in well with the other

    I know that mate, its just in reality this thing was tiny (i think about the size of a t90 maybe a fraction longer) , so we really had 0 chance with the scale. I think it came out rather nice tbh, and im just glad it got animated. Sweeten and Darkblade spent an unearthly amount of time on it between them trying to get it right. Im hoping someone will reskin it tbh and hide the mess i made of the texture.

    I also have CoH over steam and didn't had problems to run it, also you don't describe what error you get... you can't run it you say, why? what happens? Nothing happens?

    Make sure you install it on the right path, in example: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Company of Heroes" if you have 32 bits OS; "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Company of Heroes" if you have 64 bits OS.

    Also, double check that you have the latest version of CoH... 2.601.

    @Everyone - I've been running more and more tests with the AI on the Dev version, and I think you will be pleased to hear that I'm basically getting my ass handed to me on normal difficulty.

    Of course with the current build the AI will go out of it's way to Call in EVERYTHING at the start due to the resources it is given, and will keep it up for quite some time due to having 5k of each resource.

    Still, I'm quite sure that people will need to adjust how they play when they come on.

    Also if anyone was wondering how well the ported models from Men of War work, I must say that they work QUITE well, the only stand out being that they look a tad bit different from the models which are specifically made for CoH.

  45. #3895

    @Twitchy

    what was your regular difficulty you play on against AI before 2.0

    The AI is working fairly well (I still want to tweak it before release ), but keep in mind that the AI will not have that 5k resource thing on release. Actually....

    @ Twitch - if you play on normal resources pre-game the AI will get their normal bonuses - it's only on high resources pre-game they get 5k (great for testing for the human player, btw - that's why high is set at 5k each)

    @Sweeten2213 - Hmm, I'll have to check that. Whenever I've set it to Standard resources I haven't been able to build or the like due to lack of CPs. I updated earlier today though, so I'll have another look at it. Also to save the PM as it's late, the 709th's Pak 40 is getting an LUA error for me, dunno about your side.

    Night all.

    @ Twitch - you can build on standard resources - just make sure you not only pick your doctrine (with CP menu), but also a sub-doctrine (inside your HQ) before you can build. And the CP's can still be at zero and allow you to pick a doctrine.

    I'll check the pak 40 as well - thx

  49. #3899
    @sweeten2213
    I've played three quick games 15-20 mins and the thing I have noticed is when playing victory points the AI is crap! After taking control of the victory points you can just roll over the AI with no real effort. AI does nothing - it does not attack my base it just stands there and waits.
    I have played both Russians and Germans and it was all the same.
    I had no problem beating the hell out of the AI at hard. In my first game I have destroyed 24 enemy tanks while loosing only 3 (Russians against Hard Waffen-SS for victory points).

    I have no idea how it works for anihiliation-games.
