Hi guys,
I just DL'd the Normandy 44 mod and am very keen to try it out - anyone know how to launch it in steam? It seems to want to unpack to C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes, but this isn't where my CoH is located, and i don't even know where steam parks my games on my pc. Thanks for any help!
I dont have steam but im sure someone will be able to tell you here.
The root folder for COH in Steam is:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\company of heroes
or (if you have 64-bit Windows)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\company of heroes

I do usually test (and play for that matter) on annihilation games - but it is odd that they would be that bad. They are designed to grab the VP's FTW, but not necessarily to "sit" afterwards. Maybe to slowly attack your base, but they are designed to go after the VP's first and foremost on VP games. And when I test it is AI vs AI.@sweeten2213
I've played three quick games 15-20 mins and the thing I have noticed is when playing victory points the AI is crap! After taking control of the victory points you can just roll over the AI with no real effort. AI does nothing - it does not attack my base it just stands there and waits.
I have played both Russians and Germans and it was all the same.
I had no problem beating the hell out of the AI at hard. In my first game I have destroyed 24 enemy tanks while loosing only 3 (Russians against Hard Waffen-SS for victory points).
I have no idea how it works for anihiliation-games.
When you say sit, I am assuming they still build, etc...? And when you won, did you win by taking back the VP points or by attacking their base? Or is it that you grabbed the VP's first? There is also the issue that at times on some custom maps (and I have seen it a couple of times on Vanilla maps - both of which were also the case in v1.7) the AI gets "stuck" - so if you were able to grab the VP's first (pretty much impossible on a game vs. hard), that may have happened. Especially if you took all the VP's first as I have seen in many shorter test games (where I am testing art or units rather than the AI) that the AI on maps like Ango have at least 2 and often all 3 VP's in a VERY short amount of time.
Being able to tweak it or fix it will kinda depend on which of these possibilties was the case.
And if you destroyed that many tank v tank ratio, maybe your just that goodTo be able to destroy that many (I assume you updated your svn and transferred it over to your root CoH folder, because over the last few weeks MANY changes were made to speed up SS build times and more importantly tweak Soviet weapons as they were unrealistic and WAY OP - but those changes were made about 3 weeks ago) you would have to be outnumbering them in each battle I would think.
Also, was this on high resources? The AI can be very good on high resources, but it is not designed for the dev version of high resources. You could very easily "outsmart" it by using the 15 VP points you get in the beginning and choosing all the right call ins.

We must not be playin the same 44 cause in my case the ai will kick ur arse and im not to bad at this tactic thing. From what ive seen its a very good ai.So im stumped just sayin![]()
Same here. I can be on the brink of a win and it will just roll over me.
I believe they're talking about the internal alpha.

They are.
@Sweeten - I've also got a missing lua on one of the British RA 25 Pounders. I have no clue what Doct it was as it was the enemies, but I remember distinctly that it didn't have a shield on it.
@Everyone - If anyone knows anyway I can ensure that my PC is running as fast as it should be when I'm running the mod, it would be greatly appreciated. I've been getting slower load times on mods since I got my PC back, and I've attempted to root through various scanners and registry errors and the like, but it's still much slower then it should be.
Any ideas?

@sweeten2213
The games I've played were all on the Vanilla maps and with high resources (so yes I did pick call-ins very little building involved). After taking the VP the AI did not attack my base!!! Which I thought was weird as it always spam a lot. However after I took the first VP the AI just did nothing (OK they fought but it was all headless chicken). I have updated on Friday...
I mean I allow the AI to take the VP (all of them) and make two line def and awiat the wave but this only happend once. The other games after waiting 5 minutes I just started strolling down the map. Eventually it was shooting ducks as AI have not called anything after loosing al of the VP.
I dunno - maybe I was lucky (the longest game lasted 33 minutes, the shortes 18 minutes). Against humans with high resources this will be a definitive winner.
Check my IIWW art:

Well, the short answer to all that is 2 things :
1) With high resources, you have more or less evened things up with the Ai (in the dev version - the regular version will not have 5000 resources for high resources - that is only for certain types of testing). The AI ONLY gets advatages from level to level via income bonuses. Other than that, there is NO other difference between the levels. It's not any smarter, tactical, etc... The only advantage is it can outproduce you. And if you start with 5000 of each resource and 15 CP points (meaning you can pick literally every CP possible from go), they no longer have that advantage so it wouldn't matter whether you played expert or easy - it would be in essence the same. You can both basically produce and call in at will w/o having to worry about cost or income.
2) Also, the Ai is not meant or designed to have 5000 resources and 15 CP's - that is only there for testing. So it will no act too terribly intelligently with it. It will build units rather than call ins, even when a call in would be smarter given their enormous resources. I have seen the Ai even "freeze" at some points with the high resources as it has "too many options" for lack of a better term.
So, try it on normal resources - they are set at Beta Release release levels. See how it performs then
And to restate - High resources in the dev version are set that high for testing (so I can build any and all units and call in any and all units to check for bugs, skins, abilities, etc...). They will NOT be that high for the Beta and they are ONLY that high to be able to build quite literally everything for testing.
And when I do AI testing in the Alpha, it is on normal resources.
ok im gonna explaine now what the problem is ween i instal it to steam.
first of all the only thing that comes out ween i install it rigth into steam there comes a map called normandy1944 or somthing like that nothing els inside that map there are all kind of things data and so on just like a game should be...
it fills like 1.2 gb.
but there is no shoutcut into the game and i cant make a shoutcut just like trying to make a shoutcut of the game and go into propertiese and make it like that it doesent work dont know if i am doing it rigth but if somone can explain step by step how to install it over steam it would be really nice.
Thanks Jaffar,
sorted out the root folder. I've unzipped the contents there, but the mod doesn't work automatically and i'm a little confused by something. I chose the correct location for the install program to unpack to, but its installation notes at the same time contain instructions that seem to conflict. For example, I only downloaded one file (European theatre 1944 ver 1.7 autoinstaller) - there were no three zip files as alluded to in step 1 of the instructions below.
0) Delete any previous EuropeanTheater1944 folder
1) Download all 3 of the zipped files.
2) Unzip zip1 to your desktop
3) Place THE CONTENTS of zip1 into your main CoH directory
4) Do the same for zip2, and zip3 (they will merge into the main EuropeanTheater1944 folder)
5) Open up the main folder and read the readme (also includes installation instructions)
6) Right click on your CoH Shortcut, and choose "create shortcut"
7) Right click on the new shortcut and select "properties" - set the target line to read as the following:
"C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\RelicCOH.exe" -dev -mod EuropeanTheater1944"
8) Rename the new shortcut whatever you'd like
9) Click on "Change Icon" inside properties, and "browse" to find the icon included in the mod folder - choose it
10) Then you're good to go!!
Thanks again for any help!
@supercrackers
Well those instructions are for the zip files, I use the installer.
Not sure why people are having issues it's simple:
1. Run the installer
2. For the install path use:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\company of heroes
or (if you have 64-bit Windows)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\company of heroes
3. After the install go the folder from step 2
4. Find RelicCOH.exe
5. Right click it
6. Select "Create shortcut"
7. Find the new shortcut
8. Right click it
9. Select Properties
10. In Target add this to the end of the line OUTSIDE of the quotes with a space after the last quote:
-dev -mod EuropeanTheater1944
So it should like this:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\company of heroes\RelicCOH.exe" -dev -mod EuropeanTheater1944
or on 64-bit windows this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\company of heroes\RelicCOH.exe" -dev -mod EuropeanTheater1944
11. Click OK to save the icon changes
12. Double click the icon
COH should start with the N44 mod loaded (you'll see it's logo instead of the VCOH on the menu).
I just uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it worked exactly as above for me.
@Sweeten - Question about the Trenches for the Soviets, or even in general. I know that at least for the Russians, squads can't fit in the Trenches that they build, I need men to DIE to put them in.
@ twitch - hmm - I'll have to check on that
Edit - found the issue. Fixed and SVN updated

This mod..
I'm having trouble getting my jaw off the floor.
@Acceptable67 - It's a common Phenomenon. ^^
To everyone - Testing goes well, the only complaints are a random crash every now and again, but I'm sure we'll solve those before it hits your hands.
It's working now so thanks a lot for your help guys!
And the mod seems awesome!! Gonna get back to it now...
Cheers!
@Sweeten - It seems that a minute or two after you build the Pak 40 that has the LUA problem, the game will crash. Only reason I'd bother pointing this out is that if on the off chance the AI builds it...it kind of crashes you while your Comp stomping.
Also, a fellow tester and I tested two Atlantikwall Doct's (I taking the left Sub Docts 709th and the OstTruppen, him taking the right) Against three Hard Soviets.
Oh my god we have never seen so many units that are somehow more competant then ours in ages. XD
@ Twitch - VERY odd with the PaK 40. I have never seen an LUA error after it's built. And you are sure it was the PaK40 - not 38 or 36? And I assuming the mobile version
Missing LUA usually means that an EBP in the SBP's loadout does not exist with the file path you provided. Also, some time after a missing LUA appears, your game will crash.
Yeah - had to find the Pak 40 he was referring to. Turns out it was Lehr, not 709. Fixed now![]()
@Sweeten2213 - Yeah I got mixed up as I kept playing 709th after that. Although it DOES mean that the mod is alot more stable.
Also, my fellow Tester and I are going to be going through all the Docts/Units today to make sure we rectify the "Foot" errors and anything else that doesn't seem correct. Hope that helps out, ^^

Looks amazing DMz, great work!
@DMz - Simply beautiful man, I can only fathom the amount of effort and hardwork you put into helping us finish off all these Models and Textures, and I personnally believe we all owe you a BIG thank you for your work!
@Sweeten - So I've been testing for footbugs on the Heer this morning, and I'm seeing a major pattern.
Any unit with the "High Boots" (Ost Truppen, Officer) Are perfectly fine no matter what the skin.
Any unit that has the "Low Boots' (Grenadiere's, MG Crews etc.) Most likely have the bug. So if you have a copy of each skin you've put into the mod, You'd be better off just going through all the skins with the "Low Boots" at least for Germany, as the Allied Nations seem to be fine from what I've looked at during combat.
Honestly I don't have a copy of each skin per se - they are all there but not all are used and some use different parts of each. More or less i have to look at each .abp file, see what uses what parts, and go from there.
If you are able to give a couple of exact answers, like 2 or 3 exact soldiers from exact squads, I can take a look at those specific abp's (there are probably 70 or more abp's and many of those point to 2 or even 3 or 4 different "skins") and maybe find the "link" file for all the ones with the issue
@Sweeten - Well personnally, I'd go through any skin that doesn't use the High boots. As I haven't found even one soldier that uses the low boots that is fine with the exception of the Heer Pios.
And I honestly have no idea what ebps file or squad uses high or low boots, TBH
[Something about hosting a server for this mod.. but I'm not going to do that so there is no reason for this post.]
@Sweeten - Well, I went through the vast majority of things for the Atlantikwall, check it out.
K - Thanks. I will check it out
Edit - I think I have that fixed (at least the ones listed). I had to get rid of a couple of dds files, but all have boots now

@Sweeten - Awesome, I'll have another look into it tomorrow, see what I can come up with.

Excellent soviet MG DMz, the tripod and mount look really good. I hope they don't put the polies up too much though.
1260 final, but it is a AA gun so i suppose its ok, carriage version was 1310
@Sweeten - Did you happen to check out the EF Update? They've got a few new Vehicles that might be of use to us if we still have permission on their models etc.
I haven't checked - do you know which vehicles?
I know the vehicles in their ModDB for Ostheer update are not animated yet.
@Sweeten - Ah, didn't know that.
To be honest Sweeten, the only way we can really root out the "Foot bug" would be to go through it one Doctrine at a time and check each unit. Although I know that the Panzer Lehr Division needs to be checked over.
Also, did you replace the Fur Coats they had? I can't find them anymore.
I will have to check on that is I get the chance (the foot bug) - may get pushed back as I have a ton of tedious things to do (squad abilities and squad descriptions to start with). I am getting ready to do squad abilities for the Lehr, so I can check them as I go (hopefully I remember)
As for the fur coats - I didn't really change any of the skins for the germans, so I would say no - and the Lehr if I am not mistaken had one of the few "division specific skins" for the germans. If anything skins may have changed from one division to another, but all that were used are used - at least somewhere.
Hi everbody...I'm sorry for my disappearance, specially to @sweeten who has been working as the Devil in hell or God in heaven hehehe
as I was saying things have been emmm...well we all have stuff to do and now with school it's been a pain in the @$$ if you know what I mean,I noticed that the site has been quiet except for the mods and some skins released in time to time so I hope that we can revive this place again
On the other hand I been working a little on my job area haha...and I'm doing great,as I said before I would help other mods with anything I could and I still do...so before I continue working here I let you know as always that I'm about to finish some of this helping works and be back to N44 ASAP
Thx @sweeten for continue working on the mod and everyone else...once again I apologize for not being here while you guys were really doing the heavy stuff, now if someone could guide me again 'cause I'm lost as about the mod's progress,I have questions and stuff so if someone could point the right direction I'll be grateful
Thx in advance,see you around!!!

I understand you're busy, Gamer - no worries friend
As for progress - we're in "Alpha" testing now. It's playable by all means and largely "gameplay" wise as it will be in beta. There are still some art things and text things to take care of, and there are about 10 models that are untextured or using subs atm
ohh nice to hear that,so this is going pretty well...I can't wait to play the mod in it's release,of course I'm gonna work on the sounds but first I need to play the "full" version to see what needs to be done or well...yeah that's all hehehe...I don't want the fans to wait to play it just for my mistake of not working on the sounds and having the normal gameplay,at least that's what I think so release and then I'll see what I can do about the sound![]()
@ gamer - NP
@ twitch - I just finished and uploaded to svn the Pz Lehr infantry with abilities finished. A couple of the guys didn't have helmets (a role variation mistake -was the aat guy and mg gunners - now fixed) and I had the NCO's/FW's and regular guys backwards as far as what skin they had (which was also the case in v1.7 - also now fixed), but didn't notice any foot bug. So if there is something there, it's nothing I noticed.
There are Pz grens with the white hood/scark looking thing, but that was never Pz Lehr (the Pz Legr we use was done by Slayer and is actual Pz Lehr skins - I believe the same for the 21.pz)
Tell me and by the end of spring beta will be available?
