    Wings3d UV Map - Team Color & HW1 ship to HW2 conversion, & Basic .hod Tutorials

    I made these tutorials a while back, hope they are can be of use to some members. Please note that the links on the HWU website require the user to have Internet Explorer, or Firefox using the IE tab plugin.

    Wings3d UV Map Tutorial This tutorial also features a very brief basic texture tutorial. Programs used are Wings3d and Adobe Photoshop 7.

    Homeworld 1 Ship to Homeworld 2 ship conversion Basic HW1 to HW2 ship conversion - this tutorial also covers creating glow textures and basic ship hoding (or "how to" get your ship in game). Programs used within the tutorial are Photoshop 7, CFHodEd 3.1.5 & 3dExploration 1.5.3.

    *Note: this tutorial says to set mip maps to none - disregard and leave the nVidia setting to "Generate Mip Maps" *

    Guide to converting HW1 team colors to HW2This tutorial can also give modders basic information about integrating team colors for their custom ships.

    The page linked below links to some of the other good texturing tutorials I have found on the net (as noted above, must use IE or Firefox using IE tab to access the links).
    Other helpful off-site tutorials This page also contains links to many of the tools created by 4E543B including CFHodEd (including it's installation version which will install needed files), the CFHodEd manual, CFLuaDC, MadEd and many others.

    One last helpful link: Homeworld Universe Mod Tool Kit This is a large assortment of almost all of the mod tools that can be found for both Homeworld 1, Cataclysm and Homeworld 2.

    You can grab unfbig and extract if from your Homeworld2.big

    how do you do that? I have unfBig but i cant get it to work (I have vista, is that a problem?)

    The answer to this question, in every context, will always be 'yes'

    You should only have to start unfbig, click 'Open Big File(s)', select your Homeworld2.big, then press 'Extract BigFile Contents'. It'll extract it in the output directory specified in the bottom of unfbig's window (which you can change in File/Change Output Directory).

    If that doesn't work, then you're out of luck.

    Anyway, here's your hod in case you don't manage to extract it.

    Are there any tutorials for Wings 3D that takes the process of building a Homeworld 2 model from the grid up to completion including using CFHod to add textures and, dock paths, goblins, ect?

    If the community wants I can write such a tutorial for Wings but I will need detailed information on the process similar to Moe's tutorials. Currently I am learning how to build a 3D Model with Wings along with employing HWU's tutorial on how to map and UV the model.

    These are the programs that will be used in the tutorial -

    Wings 3D
    Gimp
    CFHod
    3D Exploration

    The tutorial will start with the creation of the model and will end with the model being used in game. Such a tutorial will probably be lengthy but will be one single document available for download once finished.

    I've never seen a tutorial for Wings 3D that focused on space ship modelling in the poly range of HW2, nor have I seen a complete CFHodEd tutorial.

    I think both would be useful additions to existing documentation.

    Since different versions of CFHodEd have different strengths, I'd suggest you make a note in the tutorial on which version you're working with. For instance, CFHodEd4 has advantages over CFHodEd3 on many points, but if you're working with the updated shaders, it has a bug that often causes the lighting on the ship to be messed up ingame, and so you need to reopen and save the ship with CFHodEdTangent, the modified version of CFHodEd3 that CnlPepper made to work with the shaders before that works.
