realism mode causes soem annoying graphical glitches on my end, with survivors showing through walls and props, the post-processing going bonkers with a white edge with excessive bloom. This all happens randomly and is very anoying so i'm going to have to keep away from realism mode for the time being.

People want to nom each other thats why Pala.
    Versus mode makes you weak.

Also, how does one get into the [Dolt] clan anyway?

You are required to pass 3 trials, Paladin.

The Trial of Ammon, The Trial of Ira, and finally (and most fearfully) the Trial of Scoiatollo.

I failed the Ammon - too many times I mistimed a smoker tongue or boomer vomit and lost us the match. On numerous occasions did Ira come to my aid only to be rewarded with an accidental shotgun blast to the face. It proved to much to forgive. Scoia ran away to safety, laughing at my burning body as I lay helpless as the tank pounded his giant fists upon me.

    Many are called, few survive.

If it was Vertigo speaking here, he'd insist on a frigging clan name. As it is, it's pretty dead Jim..I mean Vertigo had the wild idea, I just went along with it Now nothing has happened, nor probably will.

Ammon, your wrath is indeed fearful, but Scoia... he devours your soul.

The charger is frustrating. He gets caught on tiny things and the fact you can't even change his direction a little once running means just lining up a charge slightly wrong means you're dead.

I thought [Dolt] was just a bonding identifier and a way to make pubs ragequit more frequently.

I certainly just shoved it in there and no-one complained, which right there shows you how little the tag is worth as an indicator of skill.

Yeah, a clan was just a little too serious for us dolts.

I've got some great footage of Lleman, Kreshjah, Cagecrawler, and I meleeing our way to freedom on the Parish. Many witches were "patted down" in the process. I'm in the process of uploading them.

I love coach's comment about the Jockey - "It ain't right for a man to ridin' like that."

I recall Nukeit and I having a great time on the finale of Hard Rain- we killed the first tank, then one of our bots got carried over the edge into the water (resulting in DEATH) by a Charger. Nukeit commented that only lame bots do that. This proved only that one should never tempt the Director, because mere minutes later another Charger took Nukeit down to a watery grave himself. I got punted somewhere horrible by the next Tank and our last bot can only have died in a tragic manner.

    NEVER TEMPT THE DIRECTOR.

    Oh yeah, there's that too.

Also, expert is much more difficult than it was in l4d1. Mainly due to the different and less-safe environment, but also the new infected. Charger, spitter, and jockey are by far more efficient in incapping survivors in tight groups than smoker, boomer, or hunter could ever be.

Ok, here is the infamous run with 99% melee only. This includes killing tanks, though molotovs were used there was still much tank bashing. Witches were much easier to kill though.

As an added bonus part 2 includes an awesome BmB spray. As well as a discussion why Valve should charge $10 for a Pink Flamingo melee weapon DLC.

Also, when I play the Parish I have this song running through my head:

I almost pissed myself when I heard that for the first time.

Agreed. The environments are much more open, meaning you have to be much more aware of where an attack might come from. Even on "open" maps in l4d it wasn't difficult to find a wall and put your back to it and funnel the infected towards you, now there are far fewer choke-points and enclosed spaces to take advantage of... and the spitter does a great job of turning them into death traps.

The [dolt] tag is mostly joking, it is helpful for making pubs quit. or in more amusing situations, getting enemy dolts kicked on pubstomps. Then theres the whole renaming game, which generally ends up confusing everyone and resulting in arguments about saving/killing beavers. Or antisquirrels.

The introduction of [insert a new name for what we used to call melee in L4D1 before actual melee appeared in L4D2- I'll call it "bashing"] fatigue is a big factor in making expert harder- I remember originally in 1 where even competent infected teams in vs were powerless to do anything to corner-camping bashers- boomer-attracted infected, smoker pulls, and hunter leaps all took one hit from the spam and did rock all.

Now you can't push infected away in perpetuity, and the new melee doesn't have the same quick cooldown of old-skool bashing- with the possible exception of the chainsaw, but that has fuel issues.

And of course, the new infected- particularly the spitter which almost always manages to burn a little health off- the original infected often don't do any damage at all before dying vs. a competent survivor team.

Also, boomer followed by a charger is nasty- I still haven't broken the habit of bashing at a special that's grabbed a fellow survivor, but that's useless against a charger- you need your guns, which are often in need of reloading right after a boomer-attracted horde.

And Kirj: I still maintain that stupid bots stand in the open and get punted by a charger (which was in plain view) into death- I was in the middle of a horde, fighting a tank that was handily raping our team and THEN mr charger came out of nowhere. Therein lies the crucial difference. The irony was not lost on me though.

just went through the commentaries. No big surprises there, much of it is technical in nature, about how they created the glowing strips on the construction workers, the new water shaders, and explaining the evolution of ideas, maps and survivor items.

However, the commentaries did mention a lot of interesting information about how the maps were made and that all non-weapon, or non-shooting items are spawned by the director to generic item entities.

If you're interested in mapping and liked l4d1, you're probably almost certainly going to love l4d2's sdk. I'm eagerly expecting it already.

Well I could do that, but I was wondering how to get into the steam group

Oh, and Swamp Fever is the hardest of the campaigns.

Paladin, I assume this thread is still as valid as ever in the new GL format.

Edit: Oh yeah. If you still haven't realised how thick the L4D2 AI is, watch this.

    Jockeys...
insanely over powered in expert co-op

they have so much health, are small, very fast and evasive, ontop of being nigh impossible to counter-melee.

something as scrawny as the jockey shouldn't be able to absorb 3 hunting rifle rounds.

I think people just rename their Steam Name with the Dolt Tag.
I will use Google before I ask dumb questions!

    Must have missed that.
i didn´t played so much on steam the last month. The Dolt´s tags were much longer around than August. There are more than the double ammount od people with dolt tags than they are in the clan.

My life for the [Dolt] Tag...and clan too.

A tip [at least for the parish maps] is to move as quickly as possible so the director spawns less hordes.

Did anyone finish the finale for the parish yet? That shit be HARDKORE!! : 3

EDIT> BTW IRA, I dare yall to do melee only on expert!

@Nukeit - that video was awesome. The AI is total fail, when doing the commentary one of them fell completely to his death on the final bridge. No infected, just got bored of his own stupidity.

Scavenge is a lot of fun, although team work is nowhere to be found yet.

I'm thinking melee only on anything above normal is a bit silly. It can probably be done on advanced but I'd consider expert to be, if not impossible, then certainly a test of patience that any normal human would fail. Dess has probably done it though.

  36. #86
    with friends its rather fun.
i gnomed through most all of dark carnival.

it just takes more patience, timing, and out right stupidity/insanity/bravery to do it.

@Pally: My mistake- you did say "Steam Group" and I had no idea there actually was one specifically for Dolts- It was simply a matter of adding the tag to my steam name for me.

Although I'm getting used to the idea that anyone with a [Dolt] tag- whilst often competent if not an expert- is at the very least a good sport and fun to play with. Perhaps that should be the only criterion.
