Hi i asked to be a tester before so can i still be a tester?

  5. #155
That Iron Warriors daemon prince has some serious textures issues. Nothing looks like it fits in anywhere, and the same with those Gargoyles.

  6. #156
Ive made it clear i'm not a modeller or texture artist so there will be crappy reskins galore until i improve those skills. My immediate focus is on the code, form FOLLOWS function.

    Rampage UI

Trying to make the rampage extension read "Run Over" in the UI, i tried changing instances in ucs to no avail so i presume its in the taskbar.lua? but what instance to alter is unclear to me. Any insight appreciated .

It references a string in taskbar.lua. Either you change that string in the UCS, or you change the string reference in taskbar.lua.

Data synch error where there shouldn't be one¿

Recently in spite of having EXACTLY the same versions of the internal,

and in spite of repeated double and triple verifications of such,

all members are getting "Data Synch" errors for no apparent reason,

we've exchanged fresh versions of EVERY folder and still this occurs.

    We are using Hamachi.

We are able to play vanilla ss just fine, so this leads me to rule out something being "different" there

ANY help or insight much appreciated

  15. #165
I can verify this, despite having the same EXACT folder, we still encounter the data synch error. When we start a game in multiplayer, after the map has been loaded, I encounter the data synch error. Skirmish works perfectly along with the maps.

I have reinstalled ss and even downloaded the same folder again, but the data synch errpr persists. Does anyone know, what is causing this? Thanks

maybe there is a corrupt RGD file?.. It saved right but a bit of data is corrupt and can't be detected by corsix?

  17. #167
Disable all additional victory conditions in multiplayer games. Pick only vanilla victory conditions - Annihilate, Control Area ,Take and Hold. Sorry for my English

Data Synch mystery solved! Now, about that release......

Thankfully the annoying "Data Synch That Should Not Be "
    mystery has been solved: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=252359

So, this brings us back to the question of a release, we COULD release a public alpha containing: Alpha Legion
    Black Legion
    Black Templars*****
    Cadian Interior Guard
    Cadian Shock Troops
    Chaos*****
    Craftworld Eldar*****
    Daemon Hunters*****
    Daemon World Host
    Dark Angels
    Dark Eldar*****
    Death Guard
    Death Korp Of Krieg
    Eldar*****
    Elysian Guard
    Genestealer Cult
    Harakoni Warhawks
    Harlequins*****
    Imperial Fists
    Imperial Guard
    Iron Hands
    Kanak Skull Takers
    Kroot Mercs*****
    Necrons
    Night Lords
    Orks*****
    Praetorian Guard
    Red Scorpions
    Relictors
    Salamanders
    Sisters Of Battle*****
    Space Marines*****
    Steel Legion*****
    Tanith First And Only
    Tau*****
    Thousand Sons
    Tyranids*****
    White Scars

However only the armies with the *****'s are currently useable as AI OPPONENTS (all armies are useable by humans) and naturally being an alpha it will have many bugs, so its up to you who are interested in playing this mod wether or not we release such an alpha asap or wait until we have ALL the intended armies in game. So we'll be taking an informal poll over the next few days, so let us know what you preffer.

  19. #169
Well, the sooner you widen the net and get more people playing, the sooner you'll have more bug-hunters and balance testers. Five more races with working AI isn't a small deal, and if the other races are perfectly playable by humans with complete unit lists, then I say release a public alpha, because I for one want to see just what kind of sneaky fethers your Tanith are.

  20. #170
    Agree with SpardaSon21

  21. #171
Yep. By releasing a public version you will get a lot of feedback, and we will (hopefully) get a lot of fun.
And your final goal is AWESOME. A first public version with "only" 38 armies is just impressive.

Yes I can't wait to get this mod released, I agree with SpardaSon21, the sooner you release the mod the better.

  25. #175
Yeah. Can't wait for this. 15 gigs. It will be MEGA EPIC!

    [old fart's coins of advice]

About an anticipated release: bear in mind what you really want that release for; do you want to really test and bughunt what build you will have or do you want to please (and certainly expand) an eager (yet perhaps greedy, for some) userbase?
From what experience i've gathered of the former, a chosen pick of really committed testers is worth trukkfulls of wannabe-testers who care little about bughunting and improvement but just suffer from the 'gimme' syndrome.

My impromptu poll did not include a "start another flamewar in the DoC thread" option. <_<

  28. #178
If people don't mind the bugs then go for a public alpha I'd say.

  29. #179
I don't understand you people, either you really want to start a flame war or you are trolling, maybe both. Besides the author of this mod decides whether or not to release the mod, I personally recommend releasing it, however they are still some bugs we have not found.

Sorry for butting in on that particular topic, and I'm not trying to create any fire here, but I honestly fail to see where anyone is doing anything close to inciting a flamewar. Has there been any posts deleted that the comments about flaming referred to?

From the comments made, I can only deduce that it seems you're talking about post 176; in which case, the only thing I see is someone giving advice.

All he is saying is that his personal experience is that making a mod public for the intention of bug testing has usually ended with fairly little feedback. It may not necessarily be the same for your mod, but I would say (having been on many of the same teams as Lleman) that I agree with him there. In the cases of our mods, most (but not all of course) who advocated making the alphas/betas public would never report a single bug despite there being quite some obvious ones.

However, choosing testers carefully led to people who were particularly interested in the mod, but I guess the increased feeling of being in a team and being "privileged" (or maybe it's more correct to say "shown trust") made for devoted testers and far more numerous as well as better bug reporting.

Again, all mods and situations are different, and yours might very well be so. He didn't, nor do I try to tell you what you should do with your mod. All we are doing are offering opinions, in the same way as the other posts here whether they have shared our opinion, or been of a different opinion.

And that is really what he does say in his post; in his own (and my) experience, being selective in choosing testers yield better bug reporting. Releasing the mod tended to give us weaker and fewer reports, but will definitely please more people when there are many followers wanting the mod and thus increase your userbase. There is no ill intent in saying that. Neither do I see that anyone has implied that this is anyone else's choice but IW's.

And yes, Lleman is indeed an old fart as he says himself.

Relevant posts were deleted (not at my request) hence the confusion. I appereciate all sincere input.

  32. #182
Well I'm up for a public alpha, yes IW i'm back and finally got SS reinstalled So I'll hunt for what I can when and if this thing his public stage
There's three types of folks in this world, those who serve the Emperor willingly, those who serve the Emperor unknowingly, and those who stand in the way of the Emperor's armies..you better hope your the first two.

In that case, I apologize for bringing up that subject when it was already "done for".

That said, I'd still like to echo that my own experiences tend to say a closed testing environment works better. However, I'd like to add that there are other "middles" one can go down. One could i.e. pick a test team for a two-three weeks closed beta, then a public beta.

Allows you to iron out most of the worst ones before it hits public. It also establishes a dedicated and devoted (usually) team for tracking bugs before releasing it to the public, which even after making it public seems to have a higher likeliness of continuing to do more "dedicated" testing (compared to the general public where it is often less than 2% [non-scientifical calculation:P] of the actual downloaders that will report bugs) as they still have that special connection to the team/mod.

public alpha would be nice, if its playable.
Looking forward to this baby, very interested in what youve done with it since the beginning. Thumbs up.

  36. #186
NEWZ=we have decided to go forward with further coding and debugging, mantis warriors, and vostroyans are nearly complete, mordians, tallarn and Red Corsairs are well underway.

  37. #187
So you've nearly gotten the Vos done eh? Definitely can't wait until either an alpha or beta gets out now, I remember when me and rev were testing they were still in infant stages

  38. #188

    Progress!

    Vostroyans should go in today,

Mantis Warriors are being debugged and mordians are a little over halfway "finished" (a loose term at best lol),

Lamenters, Executioners, Tallarn, Minotaurs, Elysian D-Company, and Red Corsairs all have basic code and just await our attention to be brought into game and debugged.

  39. #189
Vostroyans and Mantis Warriors fully in game, now debugging and filling out techtrees

  40. #190
Red Corsairs and Executioners in game!

  41. #191
Good work Ironwarrior. Eager to see what youve done with this.

  42. #192
Quick question. Is this mod getting bogged down in feature creep?

  43. #193
Its been bogged down by me getting sick for the zillionth time, gotta finish tallarns, lamenters and minotaurs still.

An unexpected delay with Minotaurs code has pushed back the alpha test release to sometime this week, possibly as late as the weekend.
    So close but so far

  48. #198
We'd like to welcom Death Incarnet to the team as our official iconographer.

  49. #199
