    Great!!!!!!

I can only speak with the FoK experiences, but I think that WoA will use the same TT statistics converted to the game. I think it will increase mortality rate with all races, but that is just an opinion.

Sisters of Battle? Wasn't it a Cultist before?
Could we please hope for Devastator Lascannons ?
Also, can models from your pervious DoW1 mods be improved and put into DoW2 ?
I know that DoW1 units can not be due to silly lawyer issues, but there were some custom models like Daemonettes and Ork Battlewagons and Gunwagons etc.

Campaign with hordes of enemies, that sounds my kind of fun.

  3. #53
it isn't a good idea to increase the squadsizes that much. Not for DoW2 engine.
There are already other mods with increased squadsizes and they all have big problems with "cover seeking" and pathing at all. Many units usually just stuck behind.
So what about just making "combat squads"? i mean half-sized squads? like 5+sarg template for SM squads.
Anyways i wish you best of luck guys!
You are really sort of living legends in modding history.

And on the other side. I think that this thread will greatly affect Relic itself. If they aren't fools, they'll provide you many useful resources for your mods. Judging by what you have done with DoW: DC and how much ppl actually bought DC just to play FOK, this is gonna be a huge financial success for Relic. And they aren't fools, as we all know...

  4. #54
Yes, cover is a problem with big squads ( I know, my mod has 50 gaunts per squad) , but with fluff-wise Space Marines cover does not mean that much.
I mean anything that can pierce power armour will pierce bushes, barrels, rocks.
Even a block of rock would not provide much cover against a volley of lasgun fire. Bolter fire would chew it up like paper. W40k weapons are FAR more powerful than WW2 ones. A huge block of stone might provide defence against suriken, ork shoota or tyranid flesh-eating attacks for a while, but these are not very good at piercing power armour to begin with.
A huge bush or rock might obscure the sights of less advanced enemies like Cultists, but SM, Tau, Eldar , and even ork or guard elites have advanced sensors that could easily see trough a bush.

  5. #55
I just bought DoW2 because of this mod being worked on.

(BTW DeusImperator, I'm using your Wrath of the Blood Ravens mod right now. It definitely makes Space Marines feel like Space Marines.)

I have a lot of experience with CoH modding and hopefully it should be compatible.

although eventually ill probably end up learning it, just like i did with DoW 1, ill gladly call you up on it if its similar.

campaign is certainly going to be more visceral.

there's going to be more gibbing with certain weapons.
bolters after all explode inside the victim
chainsaws and similar weapons will likely have more gibbing also.

as usual, we make every to a set standard and then change it to see whether it can be improved upon.

as campaign is heavily cover based, this will likely be changed the most.

Could we please hope for Devastator Lascannons ?
Also, can models from your pervious DoW1 mods be improved and put into DoW2 ?
yes, as we have a lot of custom made stuff already, its just a matter of moving them across. some models we couldnt use like the marine bodies themselves, but we can just use the dawn of war 2 ones naturally.

ill probably get a list up sometime to give a general idea of all the stuff we really have at our disposal

Hoping the best for you guys. I'd wish you luck, but anyone that's seen your work knows you guys don't need it .

Here's to you guys . This mod could definitely be the big push that DoW 2 needs to finally get that spotlight. Can't wait!

  9. #59
DoW II is superior to DoW I in my opinion. The music, the voices, the characters are basically better and more believable. The gameplay is better too.

It warms my heart to see more mods appearing. Thanks guyz!!!

  10. #60
Hm I think the skirmish voices of DoW1 were better, and the Campaign ones at least as good as DoW2 ones. I miss the old voice of Angelos.

    horusheretic:
I'm glad to hear that so many models can be re-used. Also, Thunderfire cannon, Malcador,Macharius, Manticore, and greater deamons? I'm not sure if I saw those in the FoK mod! Those sound awesome.
Also, is there any forum that I should join? For example, "http://fok.dow-mods.com" ?
Currently it will be my job to set the TT-scale ranges for weaponry. My estimate is that it will standardise a lot of weapon types. Like all pistols having a 12 inch TT -> 18f meters range in DoW2.
I might be able to do the damage too, as soon as I'm enlightened to the proper connection between Fire rate, cooldown, reload frequency ( I got what reload time is ).

SpardaSon21: I'm glad you like it. My mod's aim had been to give the Blood Ravens the movie marine feeling described in the books.

  11. #61
    Speaking of voices.

    horusheretic
is it possible to add DoW1 soundsets to DoW2? or vice versa? Just could be awesome to hear from marines in DoW2 thier "We are the emperor's chosen". =)

  12. #62
God, I would love to have all those voices back in DoW 2. The Imperium just isn't the same without that lunatic fanaticism in their voice. DoW2 SM's sound too damn generic.

    More "WITTNEEESS YOUR DOOOOOOOMMMMMAAAHHH!".

And less "The codex Astartes guides us." .

Will the models you made for DoW1 need better textures for DoW2?

  14. #64
The voices from DoW1 can not be uploaded to the internet, it would mean distributing copyrighted software (Except perhaps with Relic's permission, I'm no lawyer) .

However a guild can be made how to mod them from DoW1 to DoW2 yourself, since that is legal (Because it requires you to have DoW1 to get the sounds).

A guide could be made, but it wouldn't benefit this mod at all as you wouldn't be able to distribute the version of the mod that contains speech files from another game. Would probably be worth discussion in another thread though

And even if you took this mod (when it is in a releasable state) and attempted to mod DoW 1 sounds in yourself, not only would you need a tutorial on DoW 2 speech files and how to convert them into the format DoW 1 uses, you would also need rudimentary DoW 1 modding knowledge to get your units saying the modded speech files ingame.

  16. #66
The idea was to get DoW1 sounds into DoW2, not the other way around.
But yes, it is a think that should have its own thread.

Well, I've come to realize that if Horusheretic is involved, things seem to happen. Like mods coming out of nowhere and slapping us in the face, with new animations, models and textures. As well as new FX and voices.

If anyone has a snowball's chance in h**l of getting this to work, it's him. The friggin mod god!

sorry for not answering earlier but i havent seen the quality of the textures for dow (not with all the spec and normals) so im not sure.

its likely that a few things will be but with the texturers we have in FoK i doubt we will

WAIT did i miss something ?! YOU FOUND A WAY TO IMPORT MODELS AND ANIMATION INTO DOW2 ??!???!

I am an animator and amateur modeller myself. I am pretty sure if there's a way i will be making stuff NOW.

If the answer to my question is YES then i would be interested in participating in the mod at the very least as an animator and quite likely as modeller, you can see my reel at www.titovdenis.com and i can be contacted at

sadly not yet but we are looking

your services could still be used however for these lovelies in FoK (our DoW 1 counter part). we can then likely transfer them across later the terminators and most of the daemons in the visions of chaos area. those are older pics but they mostly require anims to finish of.

    http://s289.photobucket.com/albums/.../FoK/?start=all

however if your not upto it then we'll make sure to notify you when we can do stuff for dow 2

Started work on some of the Inquisitor.

I am mostly interested in DOW2(and waiting eagerly till something can be modded for DOW2) as i no longer play DOW1 but i suppose i can use something too keep myself fresh. It depends though, how is animation done for DOW ? Can i do it in my package of choice(Maya) or would i have to do it in some game editor ?

P.S. If you dont want this thread we can caontinue this convo in emails (or better yet on wave if ya use it *lvs wave*)
P.P.S. I am also slightly confused then...why is this thread in DOW2 modding forums then ? Not trying to be an ass just....confused.

Oh. My. GAWD. The FoK team is gonna add their touches to DoW II. You guys are gods. I hope you can actually get this finished, and when you do, I will play it endlessly. ^-^

Good luck, and may the Emperor shine his light upon the team.

Edit: Then may the Chaos Gods touch your project to make it that much more awesome. =P

Well since Mirage Knight is more tainted by slaanesh, and im a general bloodthirsty pantheon of chaos type, the emperors light isnt going to help us

  28. #78
I hope you guys really do manage to crack the Fortress Of Unmodability.

  29. #79
I am carefully optimistic, as FoK guys are the most respected modding team for me (I LOVE what you guys did to chaos in DC, if only those unit descriptions were ok.... *cough*).

I will keep my fingers crossed.

I'd just like to add some more info on the texture side of things. I already had a look at how DoW II does the texture thing and this is what I discovered...

The new textures use layers a bit differently, such as the dirt and team colours (Dirt layer no longer dictates what is coloured, as it did in DoW I). Also texture sizes stay pretty much the same and are in dds format. As far as I can see specularity is much the same but as well as this there is a normal map (gives the texture that 3D look on the details) and also there is an occlusion map, which (I'm guessing here) affects how shadow/light plays on the model.

So having said this... it should be pretty straight forward to update our textures for DoW II, just time consuming, and will require learning some extra archaic practises, which is par for the course really!

    Cheers.

something that we would probably work on is how glossy and shiny the textures are at the moment. they do look quite unnatural.

for those that havent followed fok progress over the years... shame on you.

heres a gk terminator :P albeit the arms need remodelling for dow2, they are using the GK marine ones atm :/

still lots of work to do

  34. #84
hm Horusheretic could you please upload the mod files somewhere?
I would need them to edit the ranges to the codex values.
Than I would upload it again somewhere, or send it to you over MSN.

    yes and no.

depends on how im modelling the thing.

the "collar" thing is modelled to armour from where i extruded the faces and conformed it to my will

legs and shins are different meshes as is the head, arms and pauldrons.

Hahaha, modeling with the warp, are ya?

If you have XFire, add me: Lprsti99

  39. #89
meh, if i had 3dsmax2010 i would model my ass of for DoW.
GK Terminator lookn pretty awesome. This isnt really fluffy, but a Nemesis Halberd with a stormbolter attached near the blade would be pretty awesome. kinda like the old custodes.

  40. #90
Well, why not have Custodes ?
You only need to change all the gold to black, and they are up to date.

  41. #91
cause custodes only leave terra on the black ships. they dont fight anymore i believe. if the halberd w/stormbolter goes, an awesome sync kill would be when the gk impales, lifts up and riddles up the target with bolter fire, and then throws him off...mmmm i can see it already.

  42. #92
I heard that they appear sometimes to carry out the most important of the Emperor's will.

However I never, ever read anywhere that they would use Black Ships, or that they even ever boarded so much as one black ship.

I've never heard of the Custodes ever leaving the Palace since the Emperor was encased in his throne.

  44. #94
they just oversee the Black Ships when they pick up psykers to sacrifice to the emprah
thats about the only time they leave the palace i believe.

    getting back on topic....

    slightly updated inquisitor

head looks a bit funky, mainly the hair but textures will sort hat out. i never liked that hair style anyway :S

oh, and the SoB and Inquisitors mostly unwrapped also.

  46. #96
Hm the hair looks more like a Vostroyan fur hat to me in shape. It would make a great fur cap, if you are planning IG.

Maybe Custodes leaving the palace was only during the HH, but I never, ever think they touched any black ship at all.

Black Ships were crewed by Silent Sisterhood, than the Inquisition.
No Custodes aboard, and frankly, why should be they there?

  47. #97
Are those models done with polycount for DoW1 or DoW2? My guess is that DoW2 has some more faces than the vanilla ones.

How do you plan on doing normals? From my understaning they are used on many models...

On that =][= - Guile styl hair is a big no-no.

    just what i found sensible.

i'll leave that to the texturers rather than modelling things in high poly and doing all the render jumbo which will take a lot longer than a texturer tweaking te base map
