What's really getting at me recently is that my PC is dimming the screen every time I'm at a dark picture. Its annoying on dark motif websites and particularly the dark setting of chatzilla.
I don't believe it did it in the past.
I don't know if its the monitor (Samsung Syncmaster 2032bw) or my graphics settings on the ATI card (4870).
I'm foxed. I've poked through every setting I can find in this silly control panel arrangement that is windows 7.
Anybody got any ideas?

I would think the power options in the control panel would have the option to not let the pc sleep at all. but I never heard of a case where win 7 would cause a monitor to dim the way you describe it. I don't even understand what you mean by 'a dark picture or screen up', can you please shed more light on this? If the first is an application, then stop using it? or re-install such an app.

EDIT: Ok fixed. Some obscure setting. Somebody please lock this for my stupidity.

Can you please explain what this obscure setting is? I'm having the same issues and i have no idea what's causing it
EDIT: never mind. Its the DCR setting from the monitor that's causing it. Turned it off and the problem is gone!

dynamic screen contrast or whatever is the devil, don't use it
also this means you don't get your advertised 1 million to 1 contrast ratio, qq
My Samsung Monitor does the same thing and that's how I located this site, trying to figure out how to stop it from doing it. Model F 2380.

Samsung Monitor Model F 2380. I took it off the dynamic setting and we'll see how it goes.
