BALANCE ISSUES IS SHUTTING DOWN

Since there hasn't been a patch in a "little while", we're closing down Balance Issues for good.

Now, this doesn't mean that you can start crying IMBA over at strat, it just means that you can't cry it at balance issues either since it'll be thrown into the archives.

It was a fun ride while it lasted and I'll forever remember threads like "if you fix the targeting on the Defiler, you HAVE TO NERF IT'S DAMAGE or it'll be as imba as stacking Conceal", "Guardsmen 120 armour is a feature" or Jaimas' threadnoughts. Alas, it's going down.

Balance Issues, I salute thee.

PS. We're thinking of shaping up the walkthroughs for different DoW1 titles and could use some help. If you'd be interested in helping out, drop me a PM.

Can I ask you whats the point of this topic ? If you want to shut down that section just shut it down. Even if some of us disagree with this decision (even with all imba crying there are still some usefull information) it just depends on you so why this announce?

Why tell anyone anything? Why don't we all just sit in absolute silence and laugh at the people who mess things up. Rather than tell people the law so that they know their boundaries, we can instead just arrest them the moment they break one of the laws. Then they'll know the law. Sure, it's trial and error, and nobody knows what the laws are until they've broken them all. Sure, it's really annoying on the part of the keepers of the law because they have to make the arrest and follow through on the punitive charges.

Just as long as the regular guy doesn't have to waste an infinitesimal amount of energy by preemptively notifying people beforehand, it's all good, right? It's so much better that people not waste any energy now and instead waste lots of energy in the future. That's a much more efficient way of doing things.

Some of the reasons have pretty much been covered already but I'll answer this one myself as well:

One reason is to announce that the subforum is indeed shutting down so that people who stumble upon it in the archives can see when it was done and why.

A bigger reason is that I started my days on Relicnews right here in the DoW balance section and I'll be damned if I let it just slip away quietly. Balance Issues was my baby from DC onwards and I spent countless hours shaping it into what it is now by making and enforcing the rules, running the no-brainer list back in the day and actively taking part in the threads. This forum has done a lot of good (I hope) and I'd be loathe to just remove it without saying a thing.

Even to many other staff members, shutting this forum down might be just routine maintenance but for me it's a lot more than that. For me it is, just like Gorb said, an end of an era and call me sentimental but I want to have a thread for it. So yeah, another nostalgia thread.

....me, I just drop the rare post, peruse flame-wars or catch a replay...I realized quickly that keeping on top of things in a forum(here and Sanc. as eg.) takes alot of energy and I'd have to content myself with mostly being a bystander. I appreciate the effort that members and mods put into this site and I can understand feeling attached....therefore wanting to say fare thee well...anyways thanks!

I am assuming this means DOW1 is finally balance since the section is going to be closed.

Staffwise..i assume more workforce will be heading over to DOW2 and moderate there or just retire.

DOW1 balance forum will serve its funtion to the younger players feeling nostalgic and playing DOW1 might be retro like starcraft.

It would not be balance issues without trolls, flames and lead pipe moderation and kicking people out of threads!

In this spirit HouseofTehDead and corncobman for trying to rekindle the back and forth shit throwing which many died in the process to quash. You are ejected! You are free to appeal, but look on the bright side you will be one of the last moderation cases in balance issues, quite a legacy.

I will miss this subforum and the wonderful joy of reading, participating and bashing heads against various objects. It was a good run balance issues!

It was fun. I used to lurk around and make an occasional post every now and then -especially when it came to SM/IG (or nerfing El(f)dar or Tau ha-ha,a-hahaha!) Damn it was good discussing/raging/calculation/proposing changes and their effects or just scratching my head in dismay as a reaction to proposed ridiculous counters to imbas or threads like "The Tau commander needs a buff - his starting ranged damage needs to be more (because FC outshoots him)

Fun times epic...

@Corncobman - the guy who thought DC 1.0 crons are UP was called Micro102 iirc - I even had a thread about him, wondering where he went. And it got locked pretty fast as it was not lost-and-found forum

Yes, they were cut from the same cloth. Of all the denizens of Balance issues, they were by far the most entertaining/frustrating.

My fondest memory was one semi-flame war between me and another player over the vanilla WA "bassilisk targeting bug". I didn't know that there was a bug... I thought the unit was designed without auto targeting, so I had been manually targeting them since release. Needless to say, the back and forth over the bug led to my protest "no, really... I've been doing this all along... what the hell are you talking about." He realized I was an idiot and we made up on the spot

Balance issues got me interested in the precision of the hard data in DoW.

An interest in the data got me involved in the DoW Player's Guide.

The Player's Guide got me interested in finding and resolving the little bugs in DoW.

Finding and resolving the bugs got me to do the Soulstorm Bugfix mod.

The Soulstorm Bugfix mod demonstrated to my employer an ability to work on a complex project and got me hired.
