Soulstorm crash right before map loading

As the title says, Soulstorm crashes right before the map loading screen. I hit "start" and boom, it crashes. I have been playing Soulstorm almost since it was released (got it like a week after) then I didnt play for a while.

    I already tried:

    - Reinstalling
    - Shutting down all antivirus
    - Fixing my registry

Yes, I have it fully patched, however, when I reinstalled it, everything worked fine UNTIL I patched it. I play online so I would *rather* not stick with SS 1.10.

Could you run MemTest86 on your Desktop please? After you do this post your results.

Here is the link to MemTest86.

If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?

Just wondering did you recently update you O.S. to Service Pack 3 when this issue happened?

Or did it come with it already on the O.S. CD?

No.. sp3 was already on the OS. Basically I was playing it for months, stopped for a while, then whent back to it, but found that it wouldnt load maps. Just crash. No OS changes have been made in that time.

Ok, you probably updated your graphic drivers, and you can update your audio drivers from here:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
    you need:
    High Definition Audio Codecs

then you can update direct x:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...a-9b6652cd92a3

they you can install the game clean, and check if the following files are present:
16:58:33.40 FILESYSTEM -- filepath failure, path does not exist 'Engine\Locale\english\Data'
16:58:33.40 GAME -- Warning: Failed to map folder 'Engine\Locale\english\Data'
    ...
16:58:37.90 MOD -- Warning: Failed to load archive 'W40k\W40kDataGOTY.sga'
16:58:37.90 MOD -- Warning: Failed to open folder 'DXP2\Locale\english\Data'.

can be the case your cd is damaged.

    Try, look and post back.

Audio drivers are already fully updated as well as direct x, CD surely isnt damaged due to playing DoW SS on another computer with the same CD (I play LAN agianst my brother). Remember that it plays patch 1.1, but not 1.2 Thats the problem here.

So I take it You installed this game on another compute and got the same problem?

If so Maybe the 1.2 patch is corrupted. Did download the patch via the Game or did you do it manually? If so at what web site?

What did you use to fix your registry with?

I manually combed over my registry for Direct X, and SS patch/serial errors, nothing. And no, it works on the other computer, but the other computer is not mine, also its a bit too slow for SS anyways.

I got the patch from filefront in the first place... automatic update is finicky

Ok guys, after a very long time of debugging, hunting around, and fixing, I found the solution.

My codecs were screwed up. AVI Files had an error where they wouldnt load/play properly and cause anything that was running to crash.

So basically, the answer is to run a simple registry file.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler]
    @=-

    after that, everything ran fine.

(for noobs, make a new text file, open it up, copy and paste the code into it, then save it with ".reg" at the end. So if its named "videofix" then it should look like this: "videofix.reg" then simply open the file up and click "yes")
