What benefit do I get for CoH and OF with owning only ToV?

I was thinking of getting CoH Gold edition, but what extras will I receive? I play mostly online MP games.

also, what benefit do I get for completing the campaigns? I see it unlicks units, but is it just an avatar for my current units? does it make them more powerful, different abilities, etc.

I noticed playing the Germans that I got this old looking VW instead of a motorcycle. But I didn't notice anything different other than its avatar.

You get nothing for completing the campaigns.

There's no point in vCoH + OF if you get ToV. ToV gives you everything, including the bonus units, except for the original campaigns - none of which were really good enough to be worth shelling out extra money for.

The unlocked units are... diffferent. Some are better, most are worse. The kangaroo replaces the cromwell, and basically gives the british a mobile bunker, but the people inside are invulnerable. The Geshutzwagen is basically an 88 on steroids and treads, but with less range and penetration.

THe other units tend to me "meh", or replace useful existing units.

if you only play the multiplayer (i haven't even finished the vanilla campaigns), then ToV is the most economical choice.
On your PC, the units seem to perform quite poorly. I think there might be something nearby the PC that is causing this problem for you. You may need a mirror to find out what it is. :D

One hidden benefit of the single player campaigns is that they are like extended tutorials, introducing all of the things you will need to know in order to play MP effectively. You can still play MP without doing the SP campaigns, but it certainly eases the learning process if you play the SP campaigns first.

If you want a good campaign, get COH + OF because TOV campaign totally sucks.

If MP is all you care about, get TOV.

But then again, the original units in COH + OF is already good enough to win MP games.

Actually, I quite liked the Tiger Ace missions in ToV. I only wish there were more of them because the crew improvements ability tree, targeted fire mode, and ammo selection made for some novel and compelling game mechanics.

As a big fan of 'old school' RTS games like Red Alert, Total Annihilation and StarCraft, I have to say that Company of Heroes and its expansions represent by far, bar none, the best RTS game ever made. Nostalgia is nice but go back and play those earlier games and you'll see how simplistic they truly are. Each excelled at something and introduced some new innovation but, in my opinion, CoH is on a whole other level.
