The reason none of my weapons have a trigger is because you cant see that anyway when the human model holds it, especially not zoomed out as normally people do. Placing a trigger also makes it a little more difficult to place the ...gun_bone. Just a little off means the trigger is in the way. Then its positioning and re-positioning until the damn trigger is okay. So its a pain. With the Sten maybe I could make an exception, the trigger guard being so big without the trigger the gun is a little "naked".
The sten has a relic model, put the trigger in the same place as on the relic model, or you could look at Deans flattened picture above![]()

No, no, it is a valid point because regardless of what my principality is (I rather make visible 3D details than stuff which cant even be seen very well) and how I always left the trigger out of the model, in case of the Sten it is rather "missing". I had the same idea but actually I found it doesnt work. The reason being is the stock Sten model is oversized and my Sten series should be sized right as there is really no point to make it as big as the stock model. That means the position of the stock model's trigger is of little help. The various Sten models are different lenght and I had to make it uniformed. The Sten V and VI is different again as the trigger guard was moved a little to make room for the pistol grip - therefore I had to model it that way, although with reasonible compormises. So the position of the trigger should be uniformed because the shoulder-finger distance should be relatively same. I think with a little care it is feasible. Like I said, I was thinking about it myself as I see the need for it, and now that it is more of a "public" demand I think i will do it. Worst comes to worst, if it gives me too much trouble I will void it and thats that. But I will try.The sten has a relic model, put the trigger in the same place as on the relic model
@Thiky83 this is them with the inner part of the m42 frag duplicated. and shown seperatly....................... The frag top is a seperate attatchment on the grenade. (So a second state in OE ) so it only showed up as one gren in my first render, as i thought no one would disect it. & before you say it, i know the handles the wrong shape, im not putting 40 tris each on 2 grenades just so they can have a pretty lathed, handle that is entirely covered by a hand ingame

the "Aidas2" approach only effects the Sten series as the stock model is really oversized, lets be honest.
I am glad you see how making these little dicky stuff is actually "real" work. I dont think anyone knows that, and although I dont push for a medal for these, i certainly started to have the feeling that most everyone think it is a piece of cake. I could tell stories of some of the weapons I made but I dont think i could quote my exact words when i had to restart everything for the third times or something, lol!

positioning of the weapon is very annoying, especially when you have different variants and each requires diferent position.
btw dmz do you plan on adding that ugly smoke trail the vcoh grenades have?
I have given them to Eli . I scaled them and put them exactly where they should go for the bones the washed my hands of them. He can add fireworks and streamers if he wishes plus pink splash effect for celestiel, they have annoyed me enough and are now his annoyance.. Unfortunatly that only opens up the two russian annoyances grenades Eli wants but these things are sent to try me.
It would become a submarine the second it tried to go on water.

yeah, it looks like you used the 221 texture for the gun and you pointed somewhere with no files for the turret![]()
Here are the Sten Mk. V (with a foregrip - will be an optional state) and the silenced version Sten Mk. VI
I did something just specially for Aidas2 - I processed the entire texture, every part of it. This uses elements of the real weapon close up photos I have already processed for the other Sten guns, but it is hand painted realistic texture. There are 27 layers and sublayers on it. I found a few old photos of Sten guns painted (suppose for the commandos) and I made one for these last ones of the Sten-series. I hope you will like it. Since most of these stuff is on layers i can easily make it into something else. One thing though, the V and VI will be one weapon with states. Unless Eli wants to make skin variations for them, both guns will have this texture.
The Mk. V's front Enfield sight needs texture still.

The only thing wich could be improved is the green tint of the camo... a bit too green and to "fluo"... hope you see what i mean
(maybe the metal could be a bit more greyish/lighter, then desaturated, and the green a bit more yellow/dark/contrasted ^^)
Anyway it's not a big problem, just my eyes wich point this little thing out

The pics I used for reference are bad quality and pixely as hell but as far as I can say this is not actually camo but green paint which worn off. So this is what I aimed for.
Desaturate and leave it. Then release two skins one green one desaturated.

I love it man! Really nice texture. Too bad its such a little flimsy gun - one can never hold onto them ingame as they gonna be blown into bits with the first aimed shot. Nevertheless beautiful work! Congrats!

Its not like I wanna get carried away here, but I exported the Sten and although it looks good it is a little "flat" ingame. Well...its a simple weapon right? Also, I had a lot of pain with stabilizing and optimizing the textures on the weapons so far - every weapon. Generally speaking they have a generated normal map which is made from the hue map in Crazybump and it serves its purpose but the lighting of the models ingame is very unstable and you noticed how by turning the lit arears are flipping. So I have decided to take the more painful route. Especially because I am getting into vehicles now (Toldi) and the riveted surfaces will look aweful if not supported by a real good normals.
Dont wanna get too technical but normals control how a 3D object reflects light back and combined with a good ambient map they make flat surfaces look 3D. Everybody knows that who is into modeling. It also means however, that the normals should be generated in max because it is the only place where the model is "lit" and "reflects". A diffuse generated normal map will never do that. It is the next best thing but will never do it right. You just cant do it in Photoshop and expect the same results.
Weapons are such small objects they just not worth the trouble of model low- and high poly for a good normals to be baked in max. Now I made an exception and I built a high poly Sten (well, part of it for the experiment). Baked the normals of the high poly into the low poly and this is the result. I think you can agree that it looks much better, it looks like a high poly model whereas it is exactly 420 tris like before. With the diffuse, and the normals and shadow maps it will look like built of 2000 polies or something.
This is what I am going to do with the Toldi's super riveted surfaces as well.
The first picture shows how our eyes are tricked into seeing 3D, the second shows that the same surface from an angle looks flat indeed so it is really a flat surface otherwise. There are visible imperfection which I will have to tend to in Photoshop but otherwise even this first normals baked really good.
I will build a proper high poly Sten with every little 3D surface and chamfer the snut out of it (flat surfaces dont bake very well) but by the time I will have finished I think it will be the best weapon I have built for CoH mods. Just for the heck of it because I dont think its really necessary anways! lol

For starters I can remove them with a click. These type of handpainted surfaces will serve much better purpose on a vehicle. I am only fooling around because i am frankly getting bored with the weapons. I have been doing them for so long (I didnt want to get into such big project at the beginning) i just wanna throw some fancy stuff into the whole thing.
I can release a skin for those who like the painted Sten and we can release it with a general gunmetal texture. Its not a biggy really. It sgood that i showed them to you guys so I can get some proper feedback. Thats the name of the game.
@Aidas2 2pdr is on my list m8, im just doing texture work and finishing off stuff atm, That 37mm has been waiting for a texture for over a year. Next ill do my 75mm field gun model 1897, followed by the pak43, both have been waiting over a year as has the dukw and grant...............
Inuk baked textures fine a stens a very basic gun not a lot of metal bump at all as you said.
