The M2HB is pretty dang high, so would you guys be alright with the legs of the gunner going underneath the floor? Right now, his feet are on the floor of the turret, but then the gun is too high.
----------
I'd like to add that we are trying something new with this year's releases in that we are including the model and texture files used to create the object for in-game use. We hope that this gives those of you who are still learning the processes a better picture of what it is we do. If you intend on modifying these files, please let the author (in this case DMz) know before doing so. I have updated the Stuart Variations file with these for those that are interested.
Do you have an idea how this was in reality. If the guy is too high, then this couldn't be correct or, so this must be the the floor of the body, or was there a podium inside the hull?
Yepp I'm interested in. Thanks man. Now even the britains become some power ups.I have updated the Stuart Variations file with these for those that are interested.
Included Stuart MK VI ? Is that with the skirt one? Also add these links http://forums.relicnews.com/showthre...age!!-24-01-10 and http://forums.relicnews.com/showthre...ity-model-work to the models list.
Lord knows I know the pain in the a$$ it to animate and work with what you can. If they guys legs are in the floor, than so be it - better than the gun above the pintle, and WAY better than having to remodel, re-uvmap, retexture, etc...
Speaking of textures, I also wanted to add to Eli's plea for help with different parts of these projects. One thing we appear to be in DIRE need of is uv mappers and texturers (from scratch from uv map). I have pretty much combined Loran Korn's work into this thread to keep things easier to find, and we have numerous models still left that are at various states of production. DMz is only one man and we are asking WAY to much of him to model, uv map, and texture our models. For example :
The following are complete other than textures :
Daimler Dingo (from 103 Panzer)
Churchill VII (just turret need textures - from Loran Korn)
StuG III (from 130 Panzer - I believe DMz will work on texture)
The following are complete other than uv map and textures :
Sexton (from Loran Korn)
15cm sIG33 (from Loran Korn - I believe Celestial is working on uv map)
105mm leFH18 39H (from Loran Korn)
105mm leFH18 GW Lorraine Schlepper (from Loran Korn)
150mm sFH13 auf Lorraine Schlepper (from Loran Korn - also needs model "broken into parts" as it is in one piece atm)
There are a few others that DMz modeled that he will more than likely take care of - but if we could get him some help, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Otherwise, I fear that we will have MANY models and/or ideas go to waste![]()

@Jagdpanther
Well, we have already decided not to redo the model just for the gunner, so that is why I am asking.
@Aidas2
The Stuart VI is the one that Relic made.
I am working on the 37mm M3 AT gun skin from the UV map.
And if that looks any good I think I'll join the team and make skins from UV maps.
Honestly, as long as it is basic and looks the part, then that's all it needs. We just need something on these so that they can be released.
My intension was, to place the gunner so, like there is a podium inside, but that says not, there must be one. The gunner is floating then, of course, but that can't see anywhere or?@Jagdpanther

@Lt.Moore
It's not like we don't know where it goes, it's a matter of Relic's scale being off, so things don't fit quite right - like the gunner.
Eli@
Great job on the panzer i just read several of the posts and had to do a double take on the picture because i couldnt believe how cool it was to see your work its looking fantastic and im very excited with the anticipation of seeing the finished results.
PS. Seeing the spotting scope on the tank was the best because i think its such an awesome detail. So im really happy you made it possible im forever greatful to see such fantastic work thank you for your commitment and hard work your efforts are very appreciated.
Eli if i gave you a ring cage like the greyhound for the scot would that help? Alos i think the floor can come down a fraction on the turet ill check but i think theres a little room.
Mount like this maybe, looks a bit daft but may do.

Well, technically you have a the floor of the the turret as the top of the hull, so if you modified that it would accomodate crew better.
means altering the height of the turret? probebly mean the dreaded new mantel too, because the one on it would look tiny if i added height.
Ok i at last found this.
http://svsm.org/gallery/m8
Confirms what i was thinking. ok the mantels not as accurate as it could be, but my turrets about the right size. And ive tried making it taller, wasted hours on it, it just does not look right. The view from the side and front with a tall enough turret makes the thing look like its got noddys head on it, with pinochios nose.
Every pic ive found of the gunner firing or in situ, has him eigther crouched behind the turret, sitting on the rim firing. Or standing up with everything above the knees outside of the gun ring. Lets face it its a tiny turret. If any thing my turrets already too big in order to try and get relics crews in it.

The M5's / M8's were obviously small, cramped vehicles and their crews didn't have alot of space to work in. Seeing as getting a .50 Cal gunner to fit is proving problematic, perhaps it might be better if said gunner was left out or just use that .50 Cal ring mount from the Greyhound as DMz suggested? I'm sure there were a few field converted M8's out there with a similar setup...we just haven't seen pics of them yet![]()
it wouldn't be the same without the .50 cal
i really wouldn't mind if the crew itself was going through the floor or the small inaccuracies, even if it is unhistorical
A jagdpanther has a litter of 33 hetzers. 17 hetzers are eaten by at guns. What percentage of hetzers were blown to bits by at guns?
I think redesign the mantel and lose the 50cal tbh, its a 75mm howitzer and would probebly act similar to the PE support tank, so mowing down infantry with the stubby 75mm really shouldent be a problem. and also with the floor and the gunners feet going through it, remember when the turrets rotated 90 degrees, those feet will be poking out into thin air outside the tank, & probebly quite visible.
Whatever you feel is best and easiest, DMz. I do however think that the .50 cal isn't really worth tearing your hair out over. While the HMG was used for local area and anti-aircraft defense, I think the M8 would be fine with just the 75mm
The Howie btw fired HE and Smoke rounds, making it a good support vehicle for the armoured recon units - able to directly and indirectly shell enemy infantry and provide concealment for an advance or withdrawl. A bit like the German "Stummels" come to think of it.
@DMz
I sent you a PM in my forums, but I'll say it again here: what I meant by the turret floor is that there shouldn't be one. There would be an opening there into the interior of the hull - like the Recce version. We can either open that up or paint the area under the turret black.
@DMz and Eli

An interesting M8 related link showing and describing crew positions when in combat. Hope it helps![]()
Problem solved.
The feet will be inside of the hull, but who cares.
That I think too and it's like I meant it.The feet will be inside of the hull, but who cares.
The thing is, unless we make our own custom infantry animations, we have to use Relic's. So, I think it's best we leave the M8 as is and move on to the next project.
Well thank you DMZ, you are like an all in one modder
and speaking of modding, before i begin UV mapping the 90mm, i would like to know if i need to squeeze all of the textures on a single 1080 by 1080 sheet, or can it be put on multiple ones (like the carriage on one and the gun on another) since thats a lot to squeeze on one sheet
I think we still have to live with some limitations until we get a solution for.The thing is, unless we make our own custom infantry animations, we have to use Relic's.
i Wish you would make every vehicle so Detailed...

(if anybody interested to create a late Tiger I model try this:

Concerning the MG-animation, couldn't you use the animation of the MG-Gunner of the M1917 teamweapon?
This would be a crouching animation for an MG like this...
Is it possible to use such animations...

the M2hb or the smaller m1917?
lol, good idea. The truck will be usefull for once, and not being a target. And can't wait for the Scot.

You call that overkill? Puh-leaze88
Seriously though, a .50 Cal armed truck would be an interesting addition for Allies, especially for modders representing Motorized Infantry units as opposed to Armoured Infantry units.
I was gonna put a belt feed on it![]()
would be good 88 firing 500 rpm
Anyway its back on the duce texture now.

.50 cals were stuck on everything during the war lol, it was an excellent gun

It still is a very effective weapon in the modern warfare. DMz, Loving the Deuce! Can't wait for the release of it.
High rate of fire...AP rounds capable of piercing up to 19 mm hardened steel at 500m...Yeah, it was a decent weapon I guess![]()
Lovely big guns!
I like it, looks like a simple mix. Send it my way whenever. As for what machine-guns will be on it: it will share tje same turret gunner as other American vehicles.
As for wanting big guns, I won't be satisfied until we have a PaK43!
----------
Also, check out this amazing texture from inukshuk for the Daimler Dingo!
He offered to help make simple skins, but I think the quality of this one is far greater than simple!
Welcome to the team, mate.

And finally, we have the finished Tiger Ausf. E (late) skin - originally done by GnigruG and adapted by Xalibur.

which of these types pak 43 you plan to do?
Celeritas et subtilitas patrio (U.E.I)
i dont think it would be a bad idea if for the trucks you have the machine gun as a munitions upgrade i know this isnt your field, but i mean model a truck with both a 50 and a 30 cal. they used both.
Even when I was still in the Army through the 80's and 90's they were still using the .50 cal and M60 (to replace the .30 cal) on a lot of them. Some were even the same trucks, I think.The first 2-1/2 I rode in was built in 1952 at the Studebaker Corp.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW, love the stuart recce, makes a great placeholder paradrop vehicle in my airborne doc. at least until I can get me a sheridan or bradley model to replace it with. Great work guys, thank you from a former "jump junkie" (11k exit was my highest)

thx to Gnigruh and Xalibur!
Edit: but the Commander hatch will never be correct animated or?
(anyway - i would use it because its the best the Community have ->thx eli)

Tiger looks nice & that dingo skin looks far from basic. Well done that man.
As for the truck, yes its a simple mix, New_AL_Deuce_and_a_Half_Cab & 2 small new parts called New_RingMount & New Gunmount. I only did it as a gag but it came out rather well so i decided to put the new canopy back onto the duce texture. The advantage with it i think, is a lot of mods use the trucks to buy weapons from, & as medical units. With this it could easily come onfield as a basic truck, and for say 20 muni, have a 50 cal upgrade in state. It was a quite common mod on the Duece to have the ringmount for the 50, and it has continued on to the present day even on the studbakers and modern 6x6.

Love the Dingo skin.
@ Inukshuk - awesome work - hope you enjoy the job cause there's lots to do
@ DMz - yes, I do owe you many favors. Can I just send a case of beer or something
And I am sure Eli could do a better job with it than I could![]()
LOL tart
Eli ive uploaded the dingo straightened out to your ftp, had to make new wheels in the end. Near as i could get them to origionals. Its straightened best i could do but it was over a fair bit. Doesnt seem to have pulled anything out of allignment fixing it anyway.
Ill upload the Duece and your 2 wrecks for dingo and daimler this evening. Do you want a version of the duece with no canopy and just the ringmount and cage aswell ? or just whats in the picture ?? .
