All material used in this mod is the property of its copyright holders and/or creators, and I am in no way affiliated with them. This is a free fan-made mod.

    What the mod does:
Replaces all music in the game, and attempts to reconstruct the sound effects lost in said replacement as well as adding additional sound effects when appropriate. Therefore, this mod is much more useful for those who want to replay the Singleplayer Campaign, since my best work was devoted to Campaign cutscenes, both black and white and in-game.

    Installation:

Put the 'sound' folder in your Homeworld 2 data folder, ie, C:\Sierra\Homeworld2\Data. No additional work should be necessary.

    De-installation:
Delete the sound folder, or, if you're running a mod that includes sound files, delete the contents of Homeworld2/Data/sound/music.

    Compatibility:

This mod should work with vanilla Homeworld 2, as well as with any mod whatsoever that doesn't replace the nis sound files and uses the original singleplayer campaign.

    Credits:

-The HW2 Music Tool is the only reason I've gotten this far, big thanks to Zatch for assembling it.

-Audacity v1.2.6, without which all the cutting, pasting, layering, and fading in and out would have been impossible

-The composers and copyright holders of the music and sound effects I've used and modified, listed below according to file. I heartily endorse buying each and every one of these legally:

credits for music used in the mod.

    Download: v1.4 - download at ifile: ~289MB
    http://ifile.it/gv57nl0

Ifile takes down unused downloads rather regularly, so post if the link's broken and I'll upload a new version. Files of this size go down after 30 days of no download, or randomly when the operates of Ifile get spooked by Megaupload-type stuff.

Note; Created on headphones - thus the balance of music volume versus voice and sound effects might not work as well on big speakers.

Yes, all the sound is slightly garbled
Did you select the 2048 BitRate in the HW2MT ?

If you didn't then this is part of the problem.

The other part is not converting 32bit to 16bit,that wouldn't cause the garbling but in the game's sound engine itself.

Even when you play the game you can tell that the sounds and music are not CD quality but still using the 2048 bitrate does help the sound.
strange...as wonderfull as it may be,i'm still...up here... floating...and no one even seems to notice.

"Did you select the 2048 BitRate in the HW2MT ?

I feel like an idiot. Thanks, that does make a noticeable difference. I'll reconvert all the tracks I saved the .wav version of and post an update ASAP. Unfortunately fixing the rest will mean replicating the exact timing etc, and will take longer.

    Tracks fixed to remove garble: 01a, 02a, 06a, 06b, 08, 09a, 10, 14a, 15.

    v1.1 is now up.

The previous many paragraphs of updates have been deleted, since no one was paying attention to them anyway. Here's the current state of the mod:

Version 1.4 is out, and will be the last version named "The NIS Mod". Subsequent versions will be named "Homeworld 2 Rescored" and will replace all music in the game, now including the black and white cutscenes (the dialogue will of course remain, being on a separate track, although the sound effects will need to be replicated) Following release of version 1 of HW2R, I'll have a look at replacing sound effects in-game.

While I'm aware replacement of non-interactive scenes sounds is not exactly high on people's list of what makes a mod they want to download, I stand by my many hours of work that have gone into this.

I know bumping one's own thread is a bit rude, but I've got a new version out, after several weeks of work on it. See first post for general details, see previous post for future details

    Update 5/19/10:
After 1.5 weeks incapacitation from wisdom tooth extraction complications, I'm finally back on task. The black and white cutscenes are coming along very nicely. Their slower nature allows me to use some really neat ambient music. such as Philip Glass and the Half Life 2 soundtrack.

    Update 5/20/10
All cutscenes finished! All that's left is the battle and ambient tracks, which are being held up by that dang looping issue.

    Update 5/21/10
Mod complete! After a bit of polishing and attempting to compress it, I'll upload!!

The re-imagining of my former NIS mod, Homeworld 2 - Rescored, is out, and now encompasses all music and cutscenes in the game. See the first post for more details. This new version took literally dozens of hours of work to complete, leaving me entitled to a bump, though I hate having to appear to triple-post.

Sorry about the vast size of the mod. Please give me feedback of some sort!

I'm playing Mission 7 right now and its really nice but the only problem is that the music is really low.

Trial version of HW2-R is out, replacing only through the end of mission 1.

    @ adamstrange:
Sorry about that, I tested some things a lot more than others - I'll check which track it is, and upload a patch (so the long download doesn't have to be done all over again).

Update: I checked, and agree that the tracks in that mission sound a bit quiet. I think I was trying to keep em from being annoyingly loud, so instead they're irritatingly quiet. The further problem is that these tracks (Cells and Tension) were ones I was hesitant to use in the first place, although Tension is of course the menu music which is also used in all sorts of different situations and so needed to be rather general. I'll boost the volume of these and a few others and upload a patch.

@ everyone: Please bring volume issues to my attention! Getting the right balance of volume is difficult and depends highly on personal taste. Tell me about issues so I can fix them!

Demonstration videos finally uploaded, thanks to some help. See top of first post. I'll continue uploading as time (and my playing through vanilla to avoid having to credit 60 different mods) allows.

If anyone's reading this and has seen the videos or downloaded the mod, post a response so I don't haveta triple post next time I have an update and need to bump!

    Version 1.2 released

    HW2-R v1.2 released.
This version increases the volume of many tracks that were too quiet and replaces several of them.

I'll say more later, it's lunch time.

Update :8/17/10 (This isnt worth wasting my opportunity to not double post)

Reviewing the NIS for the final in game cutscene (the T-Mat motherships jumping in and activating) I've decided I can do better - some elements are missing sound effects (the hyperspace spray stuff needs the Freelancer Tradelane loop like in the other cutscenes it shows up in) and the ships need to be given more of a rumble during the rather dull middle part where they flip around (or the camera flips around) before they do their opening animation. Trying to cover the rather long opening animation I stuck in too many sound effects that don't quite work. I'll need to forrage through my Left 4 Dead and Freelancer sound effects files for loops that I can draw out and change, and maybe even resort to the internet for longer mechanical sounds.

Anyone know a movie or anything with a long and loud evil spaceship activating-like sound uninterrupted by music dialogue or other sound effects? Or an energy charging sound effect of a similarly long duration?

Well I can't say I agree with or find reason in replacing the music, but you certainly have put a fair amount of effort into timing and editing to match up with the cutscenes, I must commend you for that and the hours that went into this.

    1/8/11 Version 1.3 released.

My modus operandi for this was perfection. With that in mind, I replaced all non-perfect tracks that I could find, which turned out to be confined to the animatics and cutscenes. Also I replaced one or two tracks which were good with tracks which were just as good if not better. Download it and tell me what you think, if you ever again play the campaign! This is essentially my final version.

    5/22/12 v1.4 released

    v1.4 Bump

I've changed ~7 tracks or so of varying degrees of importance, as well as exchanged a few existing battle tracks with each other.

Given that my Hw2 installation is getting dementia in its old age, this is probably the last version. But I said that last time, so whatever.

    Music Bumping

The dl link is dead, could you revive it once more? And some more common filesharing servers, like megaupload, rapidshare, mediafire, depositfiles would be cool.
You've collected an excellent sci-fi music roster (B5 and NGE yeah), I want your mod)

Um...hate to say this....but you necro'd a dead thread. On another note, MegaUpload is dead as a dodo.
