Model Showroom III - Show Hard With a Vengeance

  1. #101
The problem is that i have nothing else. These are just from random screenshot of my USB storage key.

I can't acces the my old hard drive. Everything is on it.

But the .bmp one can be zoomed. If i am not wrong, its directly from source fx files.

@Asear: As MatthCoFreak says where continuing this via PM. But i have to ask. Can you add a Vayger AC to that picture as whilst the drone looks only slightly oversized compared to the Corvette, it looks MASSIVLY oversized compared to the Inty. So unless the Vayger AC is dramaticlly larger than the higgy inty theres an issue with that picture.

I've been taking my meashurments from CfHodEd, (i should be able to get screenshots of it for you), and they indicate that the Drone is a good deal closer to the fighters than the corvettes, (i admited earlier it isn't qwuite as short as i thought). So i wouldn't mind getting to the bottom of this issue.
I don't know what i'm talking about, ignore me.

I confirm, the Vaygr AC is bigger than the Higgy Inty.

Which is actually quite odd, the models make it look like it's the other way around...

Agreed and thanks for the pics. For the terminlly curious i meashured the higgy int in CfHodEd at the following dimenshions.

Length, 14M without the two front prongs, 16 with.

Width: 8M without the rear wing sections, 10 With.

    Height: 2.5M all up.

I'm (re)making Hiigaran Ion Cannon Destroyer. Original model was probably Axel's, if I remember correctly, but I don't know whose concept was.

I started making it yesterday, so it's early WIP.

  8. #108
Another Kadeshi WIP, this time the Needleship.

Missing are: A bunch of goblins, resource points and defense guns

Subsystems (forward dome, Ion Cannon, further rings that will fit around different sections of the spine:

  11. #111
Smoothy will be done when I get all the pieces together don't worry. For the goblins, I was thinking of those little rods you see poking out during the HW1 cutscene but I'm not sure they're enough.

Anyone got any idea what else could add to the detail of this model? I'm a little clueless to be honest.

Everything short of the "head" is pure Kadeshi awesomeness, but the "trunked cone"-like head isn't Kadeshi enough. Maybe it'll look better when smoothed or with some subsystem, but I miss the rounded "nailhead" feel of the original.

    Err... What ?

    @MatthCoFreak:
He said that forward dome will be a sub.

  14. #114
The rounded head will be a buildable subsystem that provides armor and probably frigate production. It won't look 100% like the original as no matter how hard I try, my ships always come out looking different, but I'll do my best to make it so.

On a side note, the reason the head isn't on straight away is I won't be able to fit the damn ship in any shipyard otherwise. It's damned long as is.

Ahm, let me see... this image:

You can see what look like rods or cables hanging out of the ship, ending in lights. I was thinking of adding something simmilar to those to give it something more, for lack of a better word, jellyfishlike.

those are "Tug ships" towing it into place.

and might I suggest not making the big Bulb at the forward end so large (maybe half the size Z-axis wise)

    (did that make sense?)

  16. #116
I know they're tug ships but they look like they could be antenna. I just need some sort of detail to add to the ship or it will look really, really simple and bare. Bumping out armor plates is really not an options so what remains is spikes, antennae or simmilar.

The bulb on the front fits the umbrella which will be a subsystem. The reason it's so large is because the umbrella needs a fairly large base or it looks too flimsy. Then again, maybe I can shorten both a bit.

    And yes, it made sense!

You shouldn't be able to anyway given that it's MS class. Short of scaling it down a minimum of 50% it should be just too dammed big. Really somthing like this should eithier be a starting ship, or somthing that hypers in like the shipyard IMHO. Luanching it from a SY would like having the PoH come out of one.

  18. #118
The thing is it's too small to build capital ships (needle shape) thus I think it's best suited as a carrier/battlecruiser hybrid and not as a real mothership (remember, the kadeshi had at least 4 of these).

I don't really see any way of getting around this as the kadesh have no notable control over hyperspace (unlike the keepers) so hyperspacing in isn't really an option. They'll have to have some shipyard which can build the needleships and their destroyers.

(remember, the kadeshi had at least 4 of these).
Given that the one we meet in the first nebula mission jumps out before being destroyed, it can very well be one of the three others we meet at the Cathedral. So that makes us sure they had at least three of them.

As seen on the cut-scene you showed us a picture above, they don't use shipyards but rather tugboats to assemble the spare parts in zero-g. So building the big ships in a secret place deep in the nebula and then hyperspacing them in the battlefield is a perfectly reasonable solution.

    no notable control over hyperspace
We know they use hyperspace inhibitors though.

the same applies for every MS we've ever seen, or inded the shipyards themselves. Hyperspacing somthing in simply represents it being built off map at some remote location. Niot a lack of an actual item to build it.

I agree they're more a carrier/BC hybrid in performance terms but size wise they ARE definitivly MS class units. Remember unlike the higgarans the entire Kadeshi population supposedly lives in these things, it would make sense that they'd have a lot. They'd need to have a lot.

EIT: of course it's your modela nd your mod so it's upto you what you do. Just pointing a few things out for you.

Second Needleship WIP, this time showing different stages of subsystems (which are currently: Cathedral (dome) Chapel (ion cannon).

The Ion Cannon beam has to be made a little more zomg but you get the idea.

Still missing are: Resource docks (they'll come between the two docking bays), research module (will come just behind the engines) and hyperspace inhibitor (will probably fit on the end of the spine).

Oh yeah, and I don't know what kind of defense guns this thing should take.

And let's try and stay on the topic of the model this time... or pm me

The ion muzzle isn't really how I pictured it, but the spikes look much better than I expected, for an originally non-Kadesh feature. Very well done !

  26. #126
I'm curious how you would have pictured the ion cannons.

    Yeah, actually, me too

  29. #129
Hmm okay, so much for that train of thought. I've been thinking of adding four more ion cannons, just a lot smaller, around the edge of the dome, giving this thing some ammount of forward weapony.

The real problem with this ship is it can't ever bring all its weapons to bear because the dome is always blocking one direction :/

Edit: I guess you could put a missile battery somewhere along the spine to add some diversity into the weapons but forward-firing would still be lacking then.

  30. #130
-The Ion muzzle isn't bat, just enlarge the effect, the beam is pathetically thin.
-I doens't matter that much, you can make it to cover all sectors for this price. It would be also kinda ok to leave it almost unarmed (at least to me). Or you can add more similar muzzles in the front. For example four instead of one in the middle.
Edit: four muzzles like the circles on this jellyfish.

Actually if you set them up like the vaygr DD and BC's missile batteries you can make them push the missles out a distance before they start homing, (and yes you can vary the distance as much as you like so that they WILL clear the dome despite it's size). And yes beef up that beam, though make sure you give it enough gimble or in keeping it's weapon on target it will expose it's sides all the time.

  32. #132

    Along the spine?
Now along you mean i line all facing up or around in a circle?
Because the first is a bad idea, the second is an amazing idea. Imagine missiles flying out of the hangar area like Kadeshi swarmers in the animation when you've first met them.
Edit: not from the hangar, it would hit the fighters and for a small part of the missiles the target would be shielded by the needleship itself. But around the dome, it's possible and more practical and effective.

That was the image i was going with, i simply used along the spine as a kind of referance for what i was going at, and if you have them boost far enough out from the hull fast enough initially then actually there would be absoultly no blindspots.

Plus i'd add PD guns along the spine in the manner of the origionol needle as well. Probably a mixture of light kenetic guns, (like the Gunship Corvette and Assualt frigate have), and some heavier BC and DD sized ones. In effect give it enough firepower to brush of small flanking frigate groups as they allways work round the side.

  36. #136
That makes perfect sense, I'll be going that way, Carl.

Pouk, yes on both accounts. Beam needs to be made thicker and the missiles would spread out like the swarmers when you first meet the kadesh. I think that will be going in too.

    Thanks for all the oppinions

Once I get passed the flashbacks I asure you that I am going to salivate with astonishment for their beauty.

PS. Although I seem to recall the original neadleship having a somewhat sharper transition on the back of the dish area rather than the curvature you gave it.

  38. #138
Yeah, I think the transition was a little sharper but as I've said, I'm not really trying to remake the old ships one to one.

@ Mololu: Thank you mate i really appreciate your comments i want to say you are doing a fantastic work on all levels on your mod. I wish i had just half the modding skills you have but unfortunately im only limited to modelling and some basic hodding and i am really happy when i see new mods by ppl way more talented than me.

@ Moleman: Dude i am really happy to see your interested re-peaked cause its ppl with your talent and effort that this community needs. I was a bit sad when Memories of Hiigara got frozen ( it was an all star team mod) and when i read what you said on HWU mod about giving up on HW3. Dude pls don't give up. Everyday i login to Tanis shipyard and i see 30+ ppl here. Its the same amount of ppl to DOW and DOW2 forums. As long there ppl that love this game and mod it, Hw3 is still a possibility.

I don't know if its gonna happen and when but as long there so many talented ppl here... ( i don't include my self, i am a joke compared to you* guys) i hope that one day someone from Relic might say " And now we shall bring the light back to this universe".

You are definitly right on the point of this game living on.

I was quite surprised when I started modding HW2 again after maturing a little, that there were still this many followers of this old and wonderful game.

I would personally also not say you're untalanted. Modelling is something I am only capable of on a very simple level and as far as I can see, your models are greatly superior to mine... so, not untalented

Oh, and do you happen to know where I can exchange kadeshi apples for a harder currency? I'm all out of heuros since I moved to the gardens of Kadesh to get the first-hand kadesh experience.

Aw, well, thanks a lot, we do our best . And don't demean yourself, from what I can see here, I can say you've got good modeling skills, and good modelers are rare than you'd think (well, maybe not as rare as good texturers, but still rarer than plain hodders like me). Anyway don't worry, we're still here and don't intend to go away .
