Didn't look taiidani to me until I though of the Light Corvette, which I never used.
My instinct says it needs to be a bit more boxy to look taiidani.

After, maybe it lack aslo a little of smoothiness ^^. The angle are quite strong in many occasion, the poly lighting have quite brutal wierd variaton from on the next the next.

I'd say, it would also use some practically useless antennas and stuff like that. Some textures for making battle-worn units too. n.n
As you guys may have guessed, I am a real fan of the GTX 460 EE (External Exhaust) Superclocked 1GB by EVGA.
I recommend it to everybody who wants a great GPU, for a low budget.
(Otherwise, just go with a GTX 480 Superclocked+ by EVGA...)
Interesting, but it doesn't fit with the Hiigarans or the Vaygr. The bone-shape gives it way too much surface area exposed to the enemy, making it a bigger, easier to hit, target.
As always, I am blown away by Pouk's artistry, but this model just doesn't fit IMO.
To be honest, it looks like a Bentusi gun platform, but with the Bentusi history, that would be next to impossible.
@ GB, broadly I'd agree but playing Devil's advocate, I'd have to point out that the Hiigaran Destroyer doesn't look Hiigaran in anyway, shape or form. It's the only ship in their arsenal that has a high profile. With that in mind, there's already precedent for something different.
Anyway Pouk, great design and very interesting textures. Somehow they look more real than the originals.

It's mostly just black lines (joints, I don't know how to call it), some white around them and some base metal texture to make it less flat. Wouldn't it be easier just to send you the texture file made in Photoshop CS4?

And I don't agree with your comment about the configuration. Yes, you're absolutely right about that the profile is very big and easy to hit, but the point of this design is to bring all weapons to fire positions. You don't have to turn your ship around to fire, you have all weapons in front of you. It's a ship built around the weapons.

yeah i have to say POUK ur work to date has been great..
i personally like the rounded turrets but the barrels seem a little oddly shapped considering the shape of the vessel. maybe its just the screen shot angles. but over all very nicely made..
texturing is again amazing.. i to would like to see how u achived this effect. .
kinda guess the ship was not of the 2 main HW2 styles. and its nice to see you branching out . the ideas it will generate will stand to improve every ones ideas
Pouk, the barrels do seem like they could be more futuristic. Something different than just an ordinary looking gun barrel.
If a new race does come out from this, man, it would be AWESOME!! Something like a hybrid between bentusi and something else.

About the barrels: Well the race isn't supposed to be Hi-tech, but rather heavy and brute force. But that's one frigate, the second will differ in turrets and it will have plasma launchers (probably orange colored pulses, maybe a new FX texture).

It is possible to make all the weapons face the target at the same time without going broad-side. All you have to do is make the turrets that are further forward 'lower' and the turrets further from the front 'higher'. You see an example of this with the front and top turrets of the Hiigaran Destroyer. If you want the wide aesthetic for your new race, though, all my arguments have no bearing.

I just don't like very much the way it end, It look like a pipe vulgarly cuted in diagonal.
I beleive you use this cut angle for fit with the rest of the turret shape, which is quite flat, laying down on the hull not to expose too much. So i don't see the point of not using this angle on the barrel, it make the barrel a well continuity of the turret shape. But i still feel that the way you have done is a little brutal, about the extremity (but maybe i am wrong about this guess xD).
Maybe a simple texture work at the extremity could make the global thing look better.
Here a quick representation of what i could think about, i know it is way too high poly, but i can't mesh with lower count as i don't know texture xD, i make all i think as mesh then xD.
At least you can use this as inspiration.

Pouk the texture looks great, just one thing, the black lines(joints) should fit the geometry more, in order to give more the idea of panels and diferent parts that fit together (like in the top view), but in a way that makes more sense to assemble. just take a look at a car for example... one more thing, when adding small details(and you should add more) make sure they don't go on top of a closer angle or a corner, it looks bad when seen from diferent perspectives(like the yellow thing in the center left picture)

I'm only one of the guys on the team. I mainly do backgrounds and maps; oh, and the music. CnlPepper and Zeelich did most of the ships.
This is my first model that I've actually come this close to finishing.
I did part of a Wing Commander Bearcat fighter a few years back, but it never really got off the ground, so to speak. In any case, it is lost to the mists of time.

Ender... it seems you are doing some bentusi ship, am I correct?
If so, I think there are two problems: the ship isn't robust looking (too thin), and it doesn't follow bentusi styling in some ways.
Maybe some model cross bred between Bentus and the Bentusi mothership in HW1 would be best?
I like it, it looks like an early semi built version of bentus, or a new gen bentusi reborn to kick ass.

I've only spent a few hours on it so far, so it's by no means complete. it still needs detail and tweaking
Those two prongs underneath (2nd pic) are going to be ions.
I imagined it as a cruiser, so smaller than a tradeship, but significantly bigger than the frigate from the hw1 cut scene.
Edit: @Jkberna: are familiar with the bentusi back story? the one where they completely own the Kushan empire's fleet before deciding to demilitarize (i think from remorse, but don't quote me on that). If the tradeships triple ions is what they consider de-militarized...

@Ender: Try making a more robust shape, like the tradeship, but a bit less tall. Add pronges that come out from the curved shape at the front of the ship. Or try making a cruiser version of the Bentus. n.n
I couldn't help myself and added some more panel lines to the ship before going to bed.

I gotta figure out where the landing gear is supposed to stow on this ship, so I can add the hatches to the right places. I just don't have any proper shots of the underside of the thing. Only a very low res top/bottom shot.
jkberna: I'm aware that the joints aren't much logical on a half of the ship, but in this case I've made them the way they are in purpose to support the general shape. For example from the front view they make a wide X, which is even more curved into the middle, making the sides a little less flat. Or the bottom lines on the back side are meant to optically separate this part, to make it more thin, like if the side "wings" were growing right out of the bridge.
TON_Viper: I'm glad I could be helpful, you've got a nice progress there.
Barrel - I understand what do you mean now, but I personally don't have any problem with the simplicity of it. But I'll consider it.
