    Thats pretty good though, normal probes don't really last long in space....

    Tattorack, I'm only giving you some constructive advice you could think about.

    Just a curious question, do you draw concepts before modeling them?

    Yes I do. I've been drawing from since I remember, drawing concepts
    is always the first thing I do, and it usually comes long before I decide
    to model it.
    For instance, the EDF ships I made up something like 9 years ago, (7 years
    before I started modeling) and the Craal Turtleship was one of the first ships
    I made up and drew.(of course the ideas, uses, strengths and weaknesses
    evolved over time till I became satisfied and kept it as "its like this").
    And I've attempted more than a few times to start my own comic of the story.

    I'm now a modeler myself finally lol (for a few months now). I'm doing a Freespace 2 mod based on Sinistar:Unleashed.
    Since I'll need all the S:U craft I started with trying to replicate the level 1 player fighter here http://imageshack.us/f/843/playerfighter.jpg/

    Ya it's for FS2 but of course could be for HW2 as well. Here's something I did that I got into HW2 http://imageshack.us/f/696/ss00003d.jpg/ HW2 is pretty easy going compared to FS2 it seems lol, all I did for that was export the model to an .obj for cdhoded...FS2 seems to require you to do a bunch of stuff first, still trying to figure out what to do there.

    Your new race is looking really great Melvin, it has a steampunk look that i really like. It looks really militaristic and ruff, like it can really take a beating. You need to texture them.

    Nice, whts the triangular thingy in the top left? At first i thought it might be Qwarr, but then realised those aren't wings...

    @Melvin: Not everybody can texture, and not everybody wants to. I'm willing to take a crack at it whne my IRL issues subside and i get back to modelling, but not everyone will be intrested. The modelling for many is the real joy.

    I more or less don't want to texture. Hw2 modelling is a hobby of mine, nothing more... I'm getting geared up to start modding Skyrim. But each time I post I typically add a few ships to that scene. I guess I'm building a personal fleet. By now... jeez if I did texture them all and put them in game, they'd be a complete race.

    Also it is based off the Qwarr. Those are wings, they open fully if I ever get around to putting it in game. Oh, wait I have :3

    I was for the whole time under the impression that those were supposed to be game models. Technically there's nothing I can ever say against the personal fleet, that's a very nice idea in fact, but expecting them to appear in game leads me to a letdown now I have to say. We all know how it goes, if Vipey won't texture them, no one else ever will. I wish I knew that those aren't game models from the start, it would prevent me from having some unrealistic expectations.

    If you guys want i can post pictures of my Tadanni Republic Plasma Frigate. It's untextured and i don't have a clue where to start on the goblins, but i've finially found somthing that looks as i intended when shooting, (and actualy works, damm burst fire restrictions). So subject to getting the engine area and goblins sorted i might have a crack at texturing it.

    @BloodFleet. Great job! I like the organic looks of your ships. I taught myself how to use wings and I exclusively use it for modelling. my weakness is texturing. I'll have a hard time painting organics as I also would have to work on photoshop which I haven't mastered yet.

    Basic ship shapes for a new mod.

    I can't post links yet since I just registered. But I'll be posting pics of models within 7 days.

    They are currently untextured and not yet detailed. They are low poly for performance on older and newer systems and most detail will be through textures via bump maps.

    Extremely high poly versions are in the works for use in videos.

    That JK's Missile Destroyer is so sweet that it makes me want to commit a sin.
    Those little antennae around the ship are a good detail, and remind me a bad concept sketch that I made some years ago (I'm so bad at drawing)

    Not really, it just makes you fell that if you looked at it from above it would be invisible (no 3D!!). But other than that it captures the idea of the shape fairly well imo.

    It wouldn't look like a fighter if this was the top side of the ship:



    This is the truly impressive side, your current top side not so much. So I would just flip that main hull part upside down and that would be solved.
