Mods are the thriving source of new gaming experiences within the games we play, so in order to maximise the exposure that modders can get we are introducing new ways that you guys can both publicise and discuss your creations!
Traditionally we have been running the rule that completed mods get a single thread in the main forum for their respective game with which to announce their mods release. From now on however mods will be allowed to be discussed by everyone in the same way as game expansions are, e.g. balance, strategy, replay and gameplay threads.
There will be rules concerning these threads, and they will need to be identified with title tags. A link to the mod discussion thread and a download link will also need to be included. Additional rules may also be added on a per-section basis, so please consult the section rules before posting.
Discussion on specifics of the mod such as how certain things were made etc, should still be directed to the mod threads within the modding forum.
We also encourage you to make use of the Looking For Group in the Gamer's Lounge to set up games using mods.
Secondly we will soon be setting up modding events where we select a mod and arrange a day or two for some games, and encourage members to review the mod and post their thoughts. We will be looking for volunteers to assist with running these events*.
These modding events will involve members of the mod team who will be there to answer questions in game / on IRC / in the chat lobby, who will also assist with running the games. There will be specific threads set up for feedback for each day which will only be active for [undecided amount of time] and then archived, after which discussion can go back to the main thread(s) for that mod.
Thirdly we're going to be setting up an official Annual Modding Olympics which will see various categories for you lot to compete in, either individually or as part of a full mod team. This is entirely a bit of fun meant to encourage participation in modding discussions and acknowledging those modders / mod teams who have been contributing so well. Stay tuned for more information on this!
*If you're interested please indicate that you are able and willing to help in a reply to this thread, by adding *volunteer* in bold to the top of your post. Please also state what areas you'd be interested in helping with, i.e. judging competitions, running game meet ups, or contributing semi-frequent reviews / previews.
If anyone has any questions on anything i've said here please feel free to post them in this thread.
