OpenCore Platform v1.0

    OpenCore Platform v1.0

    About OpenCore:

After building Slipstream: The Price of Freedom for over 3 years, I have come to realize that the community is strong and deserves a stimulus package to bring back A+ mods for an awesome game engine. By Forking TPOF v2.6, and stripping out all the Slipstream elements, we are left with a very small 55 MB source code that runs the show—The TPOF Core. It has new weapons, new physics, new battle system, new menu system, and most of the stuff you see in TPOF. With a few modifications, it is able to be played by itself in Homeworld 2. Thus, OpenCore was born. It be used by anyone in the community can use as a base for a mod, so long as the proper credit is given. (IE, Credit to Xi Industries, and where you got the code). One cannot simple just rebrand the package and call it their own, you must make considerable modifications in order to use the package. This will be enforced. Thank you, and Have fun!

    The Rules:

By Downloading this kit, you agree to these rules, no if, ands, or buts. If you do not agree, delete the package right now. By Modding Homeworld 2, you agree to the original Relic Developers Network license (available online). By Using this Kit, you agree that you will not attempt to pass the kit on as your own work. You must include Xi Industries or OpenCore in your credits or readme. Action can, and will be taken against you at the highest level if you disobey that. The goal is to provide a base for a new mod to be built on and things within the kit to be reverse engineered, and knowledge shared and maintained by the community. This is a big responsibility for any modder, but I have confidence in the Homeworld 2 Community.

    What does OpenCore do?

Whoops. You caught me in the middle of updating things. This late at night I was hoping not a lot of people would notice. OpenCore is a stripped down Slipstream: The Price of Freedom, which anyone in the community can use as a base for a mod.

I guess I'll have to download it and find out?

Have you played Slipstream: The Price of Freedom..? Its the same thing without the story line, and stuff of the like. Its more of a developers platform than anything.

You have some interesting ships but what trows them off is that Vgr ships have Hgn weapons and Hgn ships [well so far I've only seen the BC] have Vgr parts.
strange...as wonderfull as it may be,i'm still...up here... floating...and no one even seems to notice.

Some of them do, yes. But those are just placeholder turrets because TPOF used Axel's Turrets. So, I had to replace them to make this an Open Platform.

hmm. Well, when I first got permission I was told they werent. but hey, look at the bright side. its fresher, no?

  11. #11
Axel's turrets ARE open source. So said Axel...
So, if you want you can put them back in the core.

ohhh. Oops. Well, I packed up my homeworld 2 tools a while ago, so if anyone wants to use them they can put them back in if they please.

Is this what I think it is, by any chance?

When I ask that, what I mean is:

"Is this a FREE SOURCE CODE** version of a Homeworld-like game?"

FREE SOURCE CODE - Free to download and modify and redistribute (if intense modification has been done). Not free as in "Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, I made this so look at how awesome I am"...

So, is this what I think it means?

I would like to know if this is Open Source? Because if so, it could become a truly community driven project, where people could contribute and not be associated (or expect to continuously contribute) to the project. This would allow freelancer programmers to make contributions, even if they are rare, this might increase the code capabilities (if future development is to made on this code, of course). It would allow for branches (specific mods on the code) or contributions which are more "trunk-rooted" to be organized in one place, and for people to see the modifications, future objectives and ideas, and also see what the community would like to see happen in the near and long future of the project.

Also, seems like a very interesting piece of code, independent of any other factors. Congratz to you and the team who made this! n.n

This is an open-source mod for homeworld 2. My Goal with this is to create community-driven mods.

    Awesome...

One thing you could do to increase the effectiveness of this project is to make Tutorials and HOW TO's (basically the same thing) about how to use OpenCore.

Some basic game mods or ready-built mini games would be great examples that would teach people how to use the code.

This way, people could figure out faster and easier how to make their own game. n.n

Is there any chance of a standalone version of OpenCore? Because, if so, I might have a chance at making an MMOG version of Homeworld. n.n

Awesome. Good luck with your project.

(also, is this a homeworld mod, or could this be extended to a standalone lookalike ?)
