I'm not sure, that Hungarians and SS soldiers fought together in the east. On Hungarian land sure!

I know about their joint operations in Hungary, but I'm pretty much unsure about their activities around river Don. We'll see

@Blackbishop: I'm sure there'll be english subtitles once the movie's officially released, I've recently noticed that even the teaser has english subtitles added if you turn it on on YouTube.
@Dosenmais: At first I was going to ignore your post, but then I thought about replying. I'm not being rude to you, but first of all I don't spend my whole free time on working on mod, I do have a life as you may suppose.. I'm not planning to translate 'B-movies' either, but having the trailer with english subtitles posted here could definitely increase the interests in this mod. It's none of your beeswax what the team does anyway.

The mod is in progress, but at the moment I'm working on non-visual things, therefore I can't post new screenshots. DMz's just finished the hungarian grenade models, they're about to be texture during the weekend. (Check his post at Eliw00d's CMP topic at the ammo box if you're curious )
Halftrack also agreed to work on infantry skins once his long-awaited pack is finished. (I personally think he's the best infantry skinner, therefore I'm pretty glad for him to join the project.)
I also talked with ChickenNuggets about maps, although that's one of the last things that has to be done, but at least he'll have plenty of time, instead of rushing anything.

It couldnt happen mate. There were no SS units anywhere near the Hungarians there. The first time Hunagrians were joined by the Waffen SS was in Hungary in Trans-Danubia (Dunantul?).
If Hungarians they would have fought with the SS troops near the Don river, then we would have stopped the Red Army!!
Nobody could stop the tzunami there. I was reading up on that and it was incredible - the Hungarian 2nd Army was stretched so thin sometimes there were 50-100 meters between each troops on the line. They frequently had men stolen by the Russians from forward observation posts because they hadnt enough troops to man the main line of resistance to hear something is happening. Then you didnt even have supervision over your own tanks as the Kramer Battlegroup got them integrated and they were under Hitler's command. Bad decisions = losing fight. What the Hungarians had to face there was madness!

The whole idea of sending hungarian soldiers there was a bad idea. First of all, they weren't prepared for a tough winter, and their military equipment was worse than their italian counterpart also fighting in that area. Romanian negotiations managed to convince Hitler about the need of hungarian troops there too, (Wonder why? ) since romanian divisions were already fighting in Soviet territory before Hungary even declared war on the USSR. Then suddenly, the mysterious bombing of Kassa came. (A major Hungarian city reconnected during the war after the WW1 territorial losses.) The funny thing is, people still don't know who was behind the bombing. There are several theories, including germans, romanians, soviets, or even slovakians behind it. Each would've had a reason:
Germany needed the manpower against the soviets.
Romania.. well, following the Second Vienna Award they were kinda fed up for Hungary getting their territories back, it wouldn't have been a bad idea to have them focus on Soviets instead of their own country, right?
Soviets.. it could've either been an accident, since Kassa was close to the Slovakian puppet-state border, and soviets weren't known for accuracy anyway. Or it could've been commited directly to provoke German-allied countries.
And finally, the slovaks.. they had similar reason as the romanians.. Hungary got half of Slovakia after the First Vienna Award (back), they were fed up as well..
After all, losing a whole army taught the government a lesson. The remains of 200.000 men and vehicles were 17.000 armed soldiers, and about 10 artillery pieces.. The others either froze to death, got captured or died.
That 'tzunami' would've been stopped if Italy managed to deal with their own problems in North Africa.. That way Rommel's whole Afrika Korp could've been used against the soviets instead of fighting the British, French and later Americans..

About the Kramer Battlegroup.. They arrived late, and still got all their troops grinded up. The 1st Hungarian Tank Division had about 500 soldiers and 5 tanks only.. after 10 days of fighting.

On the other side, the 2nd Hungarian Army had been reformed in '44.. Their soldiers were much better then. They held up several soviet and romanian attacks, drastically slowing the Red Army's advances down. They won two more months for our country..

Cheers mate, it sounds like a good idea. I'll create one as soon as I have enough time

Also, Thiky and I agreed to create an allied faction. Trust me, it's boring as hell to fight british or american forces with hungarian troops.
The new faction'll have 3 doctrines for 3 nations: Romanians, Bulgarians and Soviets, of course. It'll be historically accurate, especially since both RO and BG switched sides in '44 August. Bulgarian troops helped the soviets in Operation Frühlingserwachen, and the romanian army participated in the battles of Transylvania, and even Budapest. The Royal Romanian Air Force also bombed Budapest with Stukas.. (Isn't that ironic?)

DP: VanAdrian sent me a new beauty today. He reskinned the MoW team's Me109.. Since the MoW developer team hasn't given permission, it's only a show-off, but it still is a promising skin, I hope you'll like it:

Sorry for the DP lads, but we have an important update!

Yeah, a Hungarian-captured T-34. She's a beauty if you ask me. This babe is based on a real photo, over here: http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3783/t3401tx4.jpg

Thanks for the EF-developer team for allowing us to use it as a photo, although she'll probably be replaced by Adiya's model once that one's finished and he can find someone to animate it.

    Hope you like it!

Hey TigerTanker, the Don river map is going well, I haven't been able to get a hold of you but anyways, here's a picture of one of the villages and also, I would have PM'd this to you but it says my inbox/sent stuff is full so I gotta go through there and clear out the messages I don't need and all that, can you resend me the link to that video, and the picture of the map guidelines or whatever...

Anyways aside from that, my web-browser brought up a page saying proceed at your own risk as there is a possibility of getting malware on this site while trying to get onto this page, not sure what that's all about.

    Hi guys!

I'm Hungarian myself and a big fan of CoH.
I can answer all of your questions and give photos of all the weapons (from the museum, they have everything).
Last but not least I'm really into WW2 hungarian tanks so i will post photos and data of them, and of course (If you don't mind) give ideas!

Keep up the work this is going great

    @Pdghun:
Welcome, we're always happy to see hungarian volunteers around here. Some modelling work might be helpful, we could discuss that via PM later .

    @Chicken:
The River Don map goes better than expected, I'll hit you up with a PM as soon as I found the video.. Gosh, I have to remember its name first. Also, sorry for not responding sooner, I had a few problems back home, but everything's okay now.

@Everyone: The second hungarian doctrine is getting close to be finished, going to post a major update with photos in 2 weeks or so.

Edit: I found the video, CN: Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFJ_nobzWpU

I'm posting it here, so others can watch as well

Well guys, we have an important update: a great hungarian modeller used to work on a Battlefield 1942, later Battlefield 2 mod which was going to add the hungarians to the game. They made all hungarian tanks, and the mod leader agreed to give it to us too to use them.

    Here are a few renders:
    http://www.hunfront.battlefield.hu/main.php

Check the bottom of the page, they look quite great.

Note: the last 2 pictures were only prototypes, they were made for the Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons Mod.

the last tank would be a nice call-in to match the heavy tanks of other nations.

Yeah, we're thinking of adding the prototype tanks as well in limited numbers, since the hungarians have nothing to match the enemy heavy tanks.. Only the armored doctrine has a tiger.

    Anyway, here are more pics:
44M Tas, similar to the Panther.. Only one prototype was made, but it was lost during an allied bombing.

35M Mannlicher bolt-action rifle.. this is a hi-poly model, but it may be useful to optimise it and get it in game.

    39M Király sub-machine gun

    38M Toldi I light tank

    42M Toldi II medium tank

    Nimród anti-air tank

    43M Zrínyi assault tank

Reggiane 2000 "H" version.. it was a special hungarian version produced in Hungary. The hungarian name was "Héja"

    42M Botond transport vehicle

    39M Csaba armored car

    40M Turán I medium tank

    41M Turán II medium tank

43M Turán III medium tank.. It was only a prototype. Only two were made.

Panzer IV F1. These babes have been used since 1942-1943 at River Don, they will be rather helpful against superior infantry and light vehicles!

Sorry for the DP, here's an update!
We have a new map inbound, at which we're stuck at. I'd like to know your opinions first before proceeding.

This should be a minor, probably 1v1 map, which might as well be grown into a bigger one. The map is based on the so-called Gyimesi-szoros, which was the strongest part of the first hungarian line of denfenses, due to a narrow road only, which had mountains around, making it impossible to flank for quite a while. It was the last point to give up and retreat a bit more. The time when such happened was when the Kingdom of Romania switched sides and opened another flank for the Red Army.

So, there are two options: first is leaving the map how it is, having two ways for the players. Either rushing the other, or building defenses and counter attacking.. The main problem could be the lack of a third option.

If you don't like it, the map may be changed, made bigger, with more routes and such around.

  45. #195
actually is based on vire river dimensions, and i thought of it for 2vs2 so its actually a quite average map

and why minor are you trying to hurt me?

a test for the harsh rough terrain near the fortified hills

i would probably need to use an override to the heightmap impass
otherwise men probably couldn't go up hills, and another kind of terrain would not be too realistic

Of course I'm not hurting you mate! I freaking love the map, but it depends on the community. Oh, and who left a King Tiger there.. The soviets'll get it!!

  47. #197
however the basic layout would be:

2 offset hills with high fuel points
a little town between the hills wih a high munitions point
the starting point will be ''parallel'' to the enemy hill (the hill more towards the enemy), not parallel to your near hill (so you could rush to the enemy hill at the beginning)
some fields around the town with small trenches for cover (and for aestetic) filled with points [trenches won't cover the entire map so plenty of movement for tanks to flank the enemy]

in my mind come many strategies: rushing to the enemy base through the city, flank the city from the hill to take it or to rush to base, taking the town and seize the enemy fuel point on the hill flanking then to the enemy base, or simply leaving the town to the enemy and seize the enemy hill for the fuel
