Fun moments in CoH

I remember having a thread like this here a very long time ago, but I couldnt find it anymore, so here goes. With the game over 4 years old there must have been some memorable games/actions/events that happened to most.
I had a few myself,

- The very rare 1VP victory, I was WM against US (I think it was before ToV even) I cant remember any other time I yelled at my screen.

- The constant servercrashes where everyone dropped (if you think its bad now then I'm pretty sure you didnt play back then)

- The introduction of the incendiary mine for the PE Schwimmwagen, I always used it as the first action then and was called a cheater in about 15 games in a row (some people just dont read release notes after a patch)

- Hummel revival! Especially when you have some time to spare.
I remember having a game on Scheldt, not long after PE was intruduced. It was the usual stalemate game and I was hummeling away, while reviving my dead hummels and keeping those back. After a while I had 6 hummels (and pretty much nothing else) wich is my record and once my teamies started to push, I unleashed HummelHell and demolished the closest US to a pulp in one salvo. They all dropped yelling cheater and I actually kept the replay that whole patch, just in case someone would accuse me afterwards.

- The rare time I managed to get a Vampire HT to actually drain effectively through a game.

- Having a 1v1 versus someone I didnt know and giving eachother fair pee/phone-breaks, something you wont see anymore nowadays.

I had one the other day: A 1v1(can't remember who or what map) but the guy tried to drophack, miscalculated and I won the game!

EDIT: I forgot one big one: I was playing as US this time, he brought out some Stugs and pios to repair them. I bashed his one Stug up a little with two shermans(the one had a flail upgrade). He used 4 pio squads to repair the Stug while it slowly crawled back to base. I saw a very nice opportunity and activated the flail. Just as the Stug exploded, the pios scattered(although still in a group). I quickly charged the flail through them, was quite a show!

Back in the old days happened all the good stuff, although I forgot a lot (most) of them. All these things happened in vanilla (so no mods) online play.

- My Tiger Ace was unable to kill a Jeep when shooting 6 shells in it already.

- My MP40 volks killed an unskirted M8

- Destroyed a base in 2-3 minutes with 1 single double schrecked gren squad with Inspired Assault activated (oh yea rapid firing schrecks baby).

- I won several 3v3 scheldt matches in the early OF days by spamming Marders, my top is 8 at the same time and they would eat litterly everything.

- I invented the KampfKraft Centre (with def doc) spam at base 6 to protect against über brit rush. However after while everone started using it so brit learned how to counter it (mortar spam) so it started to be worthless. So I'm the one to blame brit spams mortars at base 6?

- A few months back I won the most epic scheldt battle where 2x brits made 10 25 pounders together whichh pounded everything to ash (they even maphacked too, lol). And then my epic flank over the southern bridge which THEY repaired with 2x Assault Grens and 2x Tank Busters owned every single howitzer (AT Nades ftw).

- Indeed the constant server crashes, which were a pain. The servers are completely stable compared to back then.

- Where 1 arty shell pwned a vet 3 gren blob (7 squads) to 1-2 squad members each squad on Vire.

- We strafed enemy mines (we knew they layed tonnes of mines next to each other) and with that killing a pios squad and 2 snipers. They called us cheaters.

- Where 2 vet 2 volks stopped a HUGE brit blob with 3 Lt's and a Captain, when both used assault (the stun assault, not the good old one)

- Where 2 roo abusers tried to rush crush our infantry and all 6 roo's loaded with PIATs, brens and Lt's got damaged engines when running over our mines. Then our grens/tank busters/assault grens assaulted the roos, so they unloaded their inf when roo almost would die. Then Assault Grens went in (3 squads) and at the same time my mate launched a firestorm behind the inf. They retreated right into firestorm and almost everything died. We were called cheaters of course.


There are much more but am not gonna write them down all at the same time, hehe.

Oh and Q77, Vampires are awesome. So is the Incendiary mine by the way, great anti-sniper/blob thing.

Lets see...

-Playing a 1v1 VP game, sorry I havent played in quite some time so I'm not sure of the maps names anymore. It had one bridge across the center. Anyway the expansion had just come out and I was playing americans vs the PE he kept driving over the middle bridge and beating my guys up. I managed to drive him back each time after I regrouped and he split up to cap. Made a gamble after the third time he did the same thing and just as I saw his PIV rolling across the bridge with the halftracks in tow I blew the demo charges. Ha could hear his screaming through the chat. I think he quit after that. That or I won so easily I didnt bother remembering.

-Getting a vet3 jeep that would just not die. I swear this thing lived through pitch battled with at guns and tanks on both sides. After the dust settled there the damn thing would be a sliver away from death.

-Beating a jagpather with a pershing only to lose the vet 2 pershing to a marder in a straight up both full health battle. DAMN YOU MARDER! haha that one still makes me angry.

Great game everyonce in a while I play again but...lost the thrill it had I guess. Havent found anything quite like it yet though.

-oh yeah, the first time I fired a canister shot at a gren blob! nothing so satifying as watching grens go to chunks!

For me fun moments are
* counter snipe.
* bike/jeep push
* rifle stalling vs PE
* Demo Wehr base
* and i hope to get a vet3 jeep max was vet2 jeep and they were insane too

on wrecked train. the guy had gone with mg's. He put the first coverign the left side fuel/point and when i found it i retreated. my second inf squad went middle and i caught his second mg with its pants down and flanked. he tried to retreat and i killed it. He dropped after that. =/

Also high munitions maps, like industrial riverbed, when i go ab and the other guy just builds infantry and masses them.......he really must think strafe is way OP =)

Indeed pals, ahaha, would still be kinda OP by now. Although brits have creeping..

Anyway I got a vet 3 Jeep only once since the very first release of CoH. At vet 3 they actually rape.... untill it got oneshotted by a pak.

If I recall correctly that Jeep killed 3 snipers, a HMG team, a Mortar Team and 3 pios squads.

- In a high level match, killing an ostwind and a tiger through demo charges on the bridge in Beaux.

- Watching vanilla engineers destroy my vet 2 tiger tank with their grease guns.

- Fighting back from 331-10 to 0-10 win on Duclair, including a classic moment where a nebel hit destroyed a Pershing which had crushed my left flank.

- Using a sniper to inflict the damage needed to kill a crippled engine/ weapon destroyed m8.

Going back a while... purposely loosing three men in a Gren squad with zeal+Inspired Assault(I can't really remember props abilities) to unleash the sherkinator/greninaor/sherminator I've heard variants of each, on someone...it was hilarious.

Using nebels before the tables were fixed...always hilarious especially when you have about 8 of them.

Hoping Airborne around to utilize on the move received acc. modifier...There's more, I just can't think of them...

One tactic i still love doing is circle strafting a HMG42 with a Jeep. Lots of fun when they setup in the open and i'm able to do it, although it's harder than circle strafing a Pak with a Jeep. Come to think about it, i never used to use jeeps much at all, but these days i make good use of them right through the game chasing down Snipers and Mortars, catching HMGs in the open, and chasing off those Pios who try to sneak around to quickly cap some vital Strat point.

-Killed 3 squads of volks and 2 bikes with a infantry section w/ bren MG and a lieut{as Brit}
-got 9 squads of Rangers w/ Thompsons v1ed{as US}
...the most highly unrepeatable event ever...
-Got a hellcat to go ambush lock-down whilst moving (must be a glitch, tried to do it again and failed) {as US}

-got 4 hr stale mate on Lyon (as Wher)

Why would you do this?

i love:
- many green EXP+ numbers after arty shell falls into FOW
- dead enemy infantry blob bodies flying in the air
- my churchill early rushing unprepared enemy base
- when my commandos demo charge shreds incoming enemy blob
- blowing up bridge choked with confused enemy tanks+inf blob when all of them cant find correct path
- my tripple armor vetted blob of assault grens with MP44 eating allied inf blob for breakfast
- when i beat much stronger opponent or at least resist his attacks for 2 hours
- when higher ranked opponents dropped and i get victory and rank up gratis
- when match seems to be almost lost for me - keep staying in game and try to find solution or profit from enemy's failure and try to turn it to victory - when succesful its really nice feeling and nice challenge for it
- many many others - this game is full of nice moments and almost every match is full of adrenaline. I feel vibrations when match full of strong players starting

i hate:
- dropped teammate when chance to win is still big - many people are dropping early after first failure when everything is not as they want
- lagging player running CoH on 386SX - Game is like turn-based strategy then...annoying and time eating headache
- vulgar swearing people calling all other noobs - they have often lowest score when game is over
- often useless AI stand-in after dropped teammate
- abusers, maphackers, drophackers, smurfs and other cheaters
- various prematch lobby strategies
- vet piospam on St. Mere Dumont vs my unprepared Britts for this ugl tactic
- when my unit has chaotic time and does not follow my commands in most unsuitable moment
- when i am clicking to retreat button and my veteran unit dont want to run away and dies
- total noob teammates when they are only bulding, spamming T1 units all the time or staying idle in their bases

Lawnmower tanks. M10 and the STUH. I loved running infantry down with those bad boys. Once got over 100 infantry kills with a STUH and it managed to last the whole game...Force fire and tank threads for the win!

Why would you do this?

well... my team mates were my friends and they both betrayed me in previous games... and we were already winning with only one enemy HQ left standing and it was surrounded by 3 ostwinds... We betray each other when victory is certain because it's kind of fun... hehe[

Okay I totally the most epic "rant" ever against me.

A few months back AGameAnx, AbcQ and me were playing a 3vs3 Scheldt game. I was PE, and they were Wehr (am not gonna tell the positions or any details of our strat, hehe). As normal the brit at pos 3 starts spamming mortars to use the lame-ass strat to kill base 4's HQ in the early game. However the best way (okok here's a small part) to counter this is to use a quick marder to destroy these mortars. I was killing his mortars quite fast and there, out of nowhere, this brit says: "Marder Noob". I litterely rofl'ed around when I read that. And the rest of the game we were joking about that, lol.

So from now on in the chat lobby and so I say "Imma Marder Noob".

Lol that is pretty funny Celestial, and i too do dislike it when people say crap like that to me just because i'm using a particluar unit well. It's not like either of us spam units usually, and i never do. I just value my units, try to keep them alive as long as possible, and try to keep them from facing off against their counters. Using 1 Marder III defensively and taking advantage of it's long range and relative strength strength vs. mortar emplacements doesn't make anything wrong with it, if anything, it says exactly how good you are.

I would call someone a Marder Noob if they rushed to get them, then spammed a blob of them supported by a PGren blob. Actually, that example would get me pretty pissed if i came up against it.

I have one. It happened only a few days ago. My wher opponent started to pio spam, but for some reason he wasn't as aggressive so I was able to tech up and build two quads. Ate all his pios for breakfast. Parked said quads inside his base. Pure ownage. Enemy tried to spam stormtroopers. Owned. Still. Then he called me a noob...until he quit after desperately trying to build more infantry. I Loled.

He seriously failed at piospam...too slow, vet came in too late, no flamers?? then he called me a noob after I countered his whole army with only TWO quads...didn't bother to build anything else, aside from 2 capping engis and 1 rifle. I still can't stop smiling when i think about it up to now. players these days. -__-"

I had one... It was on Blitzkrieg mod... I failed to notice that my jag'dpanzer(w/ tank commander) had been taken out by SAS... When I cam to check up on it, all I saw was a lone tank commander eliminating the SAS... I just lol'd... and got my tank commander into a panther that had just been deployed...

A long time ago when Blitz still had tank crews, a fully vet Pershing was guarding a VP and the VP timer was counting down for us (I think it was at 30s). I was the only one closest to the VP and I had mid health panther. My team mates were still recovering from the losses they had trying to take out that Pershing (which btw had like 1/8 health left). SO I go in thinking I could kill the Pershing, I fire... PING! He fires... hits the Panther.... only a hairline of health left! I fire again... PING! (WTF Moment) This time the Pershing fires and kills my Panther... tank guy flies through the air... lands with a thump. Still alive.

Tank guy looks to his left and what does he find... a Shrek! Picks it up... fires and kills the bloody Pershing! Why my opponent decided to retreat his tank crew immediately after is a mystery but my tank guy captures the VP and stops the timer! Hooray!



Note: Tank guys dies 20 seconds later when paratroopers drop in, re-capture the VP and allies win the game.

I just played a game where I had 7 howtizers. Yeah, I won that one. I defended my whole base with tank traps, mines, wire, and what not. I had 1 squad of engineer riflemen and 7 howitzers. I lit their base up like nothing.

I agree to that... must have been against CPU... since any human player would allow you to build 7 howitzers... unless it was 2 on 2, or 3 on 3 or 4 on 4...
trapped the enemy on hochwald (blitzkrieg mod) with 2 flak88, one w/ explosive round for anti-infantry... they could not exit their bases nro could they reach my flak.... I trapped them for 30 min... until my team mates (yes, there was more than one) v1ed my emplacement.... I lol'd... thinking... How did they know that I was attacking their emplacements around my 88s (I attacked ground on them when the enemy retreated)...

There are 3

1) Winning a game of annihilation by less then half a second enemy was rolling in to my base as I was rolling in to theirs I got just enough MP called in a priest fired at FHQ (last of there buildings) first shot critical killed it looked around map enemy tank at my HQ had just fired a shot that would have ended the game.

2) epic comeback 490-27 to win 0-12.

3) The first relicnews tournament (LTVolks really should have won) per-match stuff around he beat me with 4ES (or I’m 90% sure that’s what it was) I noticed it coming and he still rolled me pure gold.

Ha got a new fun moment, after a hard fought game which me and my ally lost due to the axis managing to get their heavy tanks out into the battle field with our at lacking me and my ally proceeded to end the game on bad terms. He called me a noob and I called him an idiot, normal stuff. (comon he was relying on stickies to deal with ostwinds)

Had the same guy the next game and instead of playing he ranted non stop and built tank traps around my hq. Normally I'd quit but the guy was so damn funny I just couldnt! haha Had to keep poking the bear. He even spent time in the lobby trying to get me to stop playing or at least get out of automatch so he wouldnt lose anymore

It was easily the most amusing moment I've had in coh so far.

Yesterday in Hochwald cap we had 1 British (I was him) and 3 US. We captured the points near the river, but we didn't have any vehicles yet (only i had one: Bren carrier) The Germans flanked from the forest and i felled back my inf (There was pumas,Sdkfz 222's) and i buttoned the vehicles with my carrier and Bren inf later i retreated those units.
Soon i brought some Stuarts and others AT-guns. I placed 25 pounders near the river and hell started... The German Marders,Panzer's,Stug's and Pumas moved on the bridge and got killed by AT guns and arty.
Then i brought 2 Cromwell's and allies Sherman's. We drived over the bridge to the German base and priests,Cromwell's and US Sherman's destroyed the whole base.
At start it felt that we will lose this one...

I have 2 new seemingly impossible fun moments and possibly glitches:
As PE, I used a lutwaffe squad to build a flakverlieng and had them recapture the point where they were building the flakverlieng, that was being capped by a jeep (tells me his doc is armor) and when building finished the jeep tried to escaped but got shot and lost control and it rammed and killed one of my lutwaffe.. I tried checking if there were sniper but i was not notified by the "Unit sniped" and I didn't see other units besides the flakverlieng and the lutwaffe that were there... I also checked the kills of the flakverlieng and it stated one light vehicle..

Another one as Brits... the enemy sneak attacked my team while we were marching towards their base and all that i had left was roo witrh a capt and 2 lts in it... Seeing that shooting the knights cross was ineffective and then i tried to ram them.... I hit one and went flying... then they retreated by some chance... lol'd for a while

There is this 4 on 4map where there are three bridges where the middle one can't be destroyed, i forgot the name... Midgames, about 1 hr, my team had 6 full vet panthers each, and we charged through the center since the Allies could have boobytraooed the bridges... and when we were at the center, there was a slight traffic jam and all our panthers were stuck and had to move the front one by one and that's when we realized that we were facing 4 infantry divisons, It rained arty and when the dust cleared all we could see was 2 panthers, one iwth a main gun destroyed and another one with damaged engines... luckily we had spare MGS, sniper and paks... and I had one flak88.. game lasted for 2 hrs 30 min[COLOR="Silver"]

Played One game the Other Day it was "The Scheldt" 3on3 Bridge Map
I was U.S. and we were close to wining as 2 out of the 3 dropped and the last one is making a last stand and I "accidentally" Dropped a mortar round on a group of low health Engineers for one of the other Players and Long and behold He launched a Full Scale Arty Strike on my Base and completely DEMOLISHED it... gave me a "What the (INSERT NOUN)" expression and a LoL on the floor at the same time ^^
Didn't Imagine They Loved that group of engineers so much lol
