Terribly sorry chaps, I'm afraid we're now due an Apocalypse. I have finished a modelling project :o

    Stupid wingspan making photography awkward...

Now of course she'll sit on my desk awaiting a paintjob for the next 4 years...

You've got to at least get her primed

But still fantastic looking result - and I love all that detail you've put into the head section and neck.

That is an amazing beast! And its much more menacing without eyes in my opinion so id say do keep that theme up for bigger creatures!

So, as I felt having completed one project, I couldn't possibly finish another I'd already started before doing any more, so here's what I've started around my GD entry.

I realised I've got a game coming up with my Sisters army, and didn't have an actual Celestine model. So as an aside whilst my Repentia slowly get done, I've started St Bridgette, Guiding light of the Redeemed Soul. She is deigned to be the leader of my Army of Redemption, as she can witness the poor sods dying to redeem their souls, and not be bothered by being killed in the process. The unit of Repentia are to go with her, as are the Penitent Engines and Arcoflagellants (I've discovered I can get two more units of arco's in my army by taking Coteaz (who will be renamed and remodelled and probably fluffed so the psychic powers are gifts instead) and two units of arco's as troops choices from the GKs Codex. I know it's not the best of army builds, but that's never bothered me in the past. I can also then make a jump-pack equipped Pentitent Engine for giggles and hilarity on the field...).

The Celestine model is very nice, but I hate the backpack and it doesn't scream "SAINT" at me. So on go a pair of plastic Pegasi wings.
Also, the model doesn't have any form of heavy flamer on it, and my army is dinosaur / dragon flavoured, so on goes a heavy flamer on her shoulder (eventually all my heavy flamers will be these). It will eventually have wings (in case it fell off mid-jump) and scales (it -is- a dragon after all), and her saintly aura extends over it because it was with her when the Emperor made her a Saint

It doesn't have a head yet, that will go on in the next few days. I had trouble with the hand coming off at the wrist, so that's now built around a pin holding it to the tail. I may redo the hind foot, it is bent all wrong for a mammalian-build hind leg, and whilst I know it's not important, it may bug me enough that I end up hating it.

  8. #108
Haha that's nifty, especially since it looks like it's just lounging on her shoulder- probably make it a sort of Psyber?

Of course, be prepared for XENOS accusations and HUMAN SUPERIORITY but I guess you can explain that away with these being herded lizards that have saved their lives again and again. The Imperium generally tolerates non-sentient aliens, apparently, even more so for giant lizards.

The fluff behind my army is the Abbey is set up on one planet, and that planet uses giant lizards for mounts, etc. There's a Guard regiment, and all the Sisters are drawn from that planet. My tanks are weapons mounted on dinosaurs, I'm working on a vendetta made from a dragon, my heavy weapon teams are cold ones...

One day I'll fully write up the document. Given my current levels of keen, it'll be sooner rather than later. The Order of the Sundered Night have been around for 15 years, I should get their details down on paper.

Tabby, you consistently amaze, my dear. The harpy is amazing, truly amazing. However your concept the St Bridgette is totally brilliant and I cannot wait to see her and her pet dragon all dialed in.

Keep up the absolutely terrific work!

Twice in one day? Really Ambassador, you are spoiling us...

The dragon now has wings and I'm planning how it's head will look.

oh my god! it looks ace.. wasn't sure if you wanted to put wings on that sucker, but you did and I rejoiced

tried to explain to my friend about your Sisters army, but he couldn't quite grasp the fact you're using Dinosaurs as tanks.. they have no armour value hehe

PS. what about extending the neck on the drakeling for a more devious/malicious look

Try telling me that won't need missiles to get through

I have extended the neck on the dragon and made a rough head-shaped wedge, no pictures yet (mostly because I got distracted making a third Penitent Engine) but will post up when I've got his head properly sculpted on.

And as promised, here is more...

With time for random converting running out (I’m due to start painting my GD entry hopefully within a week) I’m getting as much done as possible whilst GS dries. So here’s the third Penitent Engine, chugging along nicely. I’m currently working on legs, and given I’m out of Sentinel feet and anything even vaguely resembling a hip joint it should prove interesting to assemble.

St Bridgette is getting her dragon, slowly but surely. My attempt at adding eyes before the browline didn’t quite go as planned, as I made the eyes *far* too big.

So they got trimmed back, and a lower eyelid added instead of an upper one as I put in the mouth and ears.

Hopefully she shouldn’t look too shoddy when complete. I am likely going to trim back the nose a bit, it looks too big in the pictures. Next step is to add horns or a ridge of some kind to the head and neck, and scales to the back and tail. Then she’s pretty much done…

I'm back out to do more work tonight, and if I have time I'll update before bed.

So a bit more on Bridgette: I've trimmed the nose so it's not so front-heavy any more, and scales are now on the head and neck. I toyed with the idea of a ridge, or some horns, then realised I don't actually want the dragon to detract from Bridgette herself too much, so flashy extras would probably not be a good idea. Final bits to add will be scales down the back and tail, and on the wing joints and arms, and that's probably it for her. Then on to deciding how to paint her (at some nebulous point in the future)

I dunno what colors you're gonna paint saint bridgette, but do you know LoL? there's a champ called Galio and he has a skin called enchanted galio which is purple blending into blue which might be cool for the drake or perhaps some blue-green blend?

She'll be in some variety of my army colours, so blue and white. The wings will possibly be soft grey, white and black, so there needs to be a warm colour in there to counter it. My army does tend to look quite cold overall. I've only completed painting one other dino in my army so their colours aren't set in stone yet, or even limited to one palette. Hmmm, time for some contemplation...

Uhm, this appears to be becoming a habit. I must start more projects to leave lying around unfinished for years...

First, a close-up on the back scales

And... the finished product ready for undercoating. She leans back a little more than I'd like (and I may just tip her a little forwards to compensate), but otherwise I'm happy with her.

  21. #121
Dat looks like a proppa conversion there, I'd also experiment with moving it a bit forward as well.

If I was doing a conversion like this I'd also probably give the model a head replacement to move it further away from St Celestine (also to me her expression looked like she was always high) but then again trying to find decent heads is like looking for a needle in a haystack plus there's the risk of it messing up the model and the task of cleaning it up which would be time lengthy.

Yeah, it's hard to find a better Sisters head than hers. I looked at my Escher for another Jez head, found one I liked and promptly used it for another conversion instead. I also did a little bit of conversion work on this girl (yeeeeeears ago, 2007 for the Atlanta GD), making her eyes open rather than shut. I may do the same for Bridgette - it worked quite well...

Hmmm, Reaper Minis has a large selection (would require some Mad Dok skillz though to chop da heads off potential minis) and I found this one that seemed Sister'ey/Saint'ish with the looking down pointed sword pose. It's the 'Paladin Alaine' one, with reference image below, cheap I think too, but no idea on the size- plus then there's the whole "if it's a different head will it fit with another company's IP style?":

    Reaper Mini

Also nice (extra) conversion there, especially how you managed to GS the pose with the thighs and the detail, I'd see how it goes anyway.

What I've been doing is using the Hasslefree miniature heads (5 to a sprue, found here) on my Repentia, they seem to be working quite nicely and are the right scale. Necromunda Escher heads are also a perfect fit.

Speaking of Repentia, all is well with the universe once more. Here's some more ongoing projects to make up for the finished ones...

This girl is going to be the Mistress of Repentence. She's going to have bulkier shoulderpads, an actual waistline put in that can contain internal organs, and a backpack. She's not getting more armour though, as part of her save is based off she believes the Emperor will keep her alive until her charges have repented fully (ie died).

So, here’s tonights little additions to my Mistress of Repentence: A waist that can contain actual organs, ears, scaled-down shoulderpads, a slightly thicker neck and one side of her arm robes.

Next up: maybe some loose hair on the cheeks (I don’t know if I want to keep her looking very prim and proper or a little more ‘pretty’), the other robe and some whips. The back plates will be filed flat and a backpack with flaming torches added on eventually, but the other details need finishing first.

I also have to decide on iconography for the unit, but that’s something that can be done right at the end, when I’ve decided on something that will go with the entire force…

Another day, another hour of converting squeezed in around painting. Today the Mistress of Repentance got herself a few more adornments.

Her other arm is now robed (though this may need some trimming once dry), she has the beads her =I= symbol will be attached to, her foot has been properly bulked out, and I did have some shots of her plait-end, but they all turned out to be focussing on the foot instead. Silly camera.

Next stop, possibly the most pointless power weapons out there: Neural Whips.

So today I was meant to paint, but hit 'painters block', where I sat for a good 20 minutes staring at the model in question, but couldn't get into the painting mindset.

So, after blitzing the desk and clearing out all the huge piles of bits and crap, I got out my tools and did a bit more on my Mistress instead. However, the block kinda extended to "oh I can't be arsed to sculpt gloves" so she's got hands made from Immolator gloves and Dark Eldar bits instead. The gaps between robes and gloves have been filled in too. The second whip has a bit missing in the middle and the green that will replace it is still drying, more on that later.

First stage of her =I= symbol is done, and after the whips I shall file the back plates flat so I can put on her backpack.

Not very much today, we'll see how the weekend goes.

Thank you. I too am loving doing the sculpting. It has, however, put me in the sculpting mindset rather than the painting one, which given I'm supposed to be painting a Golden Demon entry is not a good place

If I can make the mental shift, there will likely be a brief respite from posting here, unless I take a break to paint Bridgette or do some more work on my Harpy (who is basecoated and inked now).

The mental shift has occured and I'm doing the painting now, however when the first 45minutes of the painting session was spent cleaning fizzy apple juice off my entire painted Sisters army, I needed something to take my mind off it. So the finishing touches to the Mistress occured.

Apart from the skull on her =I= which I forgot to add, she's done. I'm not 100% happy with her right whip, but she's an army model not display so I can live with it. The whip took 2 sittings to make as I made the bend first, then drilled into it to stick it on and file it once it was dry.
The chunky thing on her back is her backpack mounting, which will be the 2-flame Canoness backpack.

Her footprint is bigger than planned, but as she'll likely be an ablative wound on the way in it's not such a problem...

Once other projects are complete, I'll get around to painting her...

I'm waiting for the rumoured Harpy release before starting bird number 2. And I must admit, whilst I did play Turok (only the original one), DinoRiders the 80s cartoon was more of an inspiration ;-)

That and I just love dinosaurs with big guns on them...

And here's that skull I forgot to add first time around. Once Golden Demon is out of the way this sunday, I can start back on other projects. Like finishing my necromunda gang for the campaign starting next wednesday...

Also, once GD is over with I shall post up a blog about the entry and the 6 months of work that went into it. I didn't want to put anything up beforehand as I didn't want *any* accusations of unfair bias, or putting judges in awkward positions because I know most of them. I know it's all done anonymously, but there's always some who will complain...
