Janna is a terrible pick if you don't want to be raged at. You have 2 spells you need to land with utmost precision/timing/positioning.

Rofl... all I'm going to say is, if you L2P Janna is the best support.

And landing that Q... really, not that hard, went 34 assist in my first game using her (1-2 kills and deaths).

Her ult is for seperating carries, counterinitiating, and disrupting AoEs, channels, or both. I think Akra is awesome enough to be able to grasp the concepts.

It's not like you can't heal the wrong person... or miss a critical silence... or be late with your ult playing as Soraka.

High skill, high reward, massive cleavage FTW.

My friend plays Soraka and Janna, and I gotta agree that Janna is definitely more helpful if she's played right. I also like Kayle for support, I bought her and her Battleborn skin cuz it's cool looking and I really like her, her ult's great for saving a DPS in a teamfight or rescuing in general, and she's pretty good damage.

So, I've been saving up IP for a while now to be able to get Maokai because I like playing underated champions and he always seemed really good to me when ever I played him in free weeks.

Of course, now that I've finally got enough IP for him he's suddenly become the new flavour of the month champion and everyone's going to be playing him, how typical. ^_^

Let tanks die for the team
And then wonder why people refuse to tank for you. Excellent plan.

People who get upset at dying aren't really tank material in the first place. Your mentality should be to divert as much punishment from your squishies as possible at all costs possible, including your life. Carries that survive the team fight tend to bring towers down the fastest; potentially secure enemy buffs the fastest; etc.

Actually I agree with D-Coy... Carries should always be your first heal priority, preferably the carry who's actually doing a good job killing enemies. If the enemy is focusing the tank... You should be winning anyway because they're idiots. If the enemy is focusing the carry, that's where you need to be slamming your support down. Only heal the tank if the enemy is focusing him, and keep focusing him like idiots while your carry is wiping them out, and the carry isn't taking any damage at all.

    Thank you, Sir.

Kryopsis, of course I don't mean leave the tank to die needlessly, I just mean that tank lives are lowest on the priority list in a teamfight once they initiated and all their skills are on CD, and will be for a while.

Theorycrafting is fun but the real question is whether or not you play tank? Try picking Amumu and spend the whole game running into the enemy team on your own, see how that works for you. Most people, especially those who frequently play carries, are under the impression that tanking is easy and involves simply standing in the middle of the enemy team, chewing on a carrot and sarcastically asking "What's up, doc?" The fact is, you need the team support to tank. I frequently play Shen or tank versions of melee DPS characters. Even with over 300 armor and 200 magic resistance, I can't last enough against a good team composition without any support from my allies. "Don't heal the tank" is some of the worst advice you can give a starting support character. The person who initiates needs all the support he can get, period. For the record, if you trade your tank for their carry early on in a late-game 5v5, good luck winning the fight: you will have 4 easy targets for the enemy team.

    Rofl. Good one.

Yeah, I do play tanks. When you catch a perfect moment to initiate on their carry, who's alone and your team misses the opportunity and leaves you to die to the coming 1v5 and calls you a feeder, that's indeed horrible.

(BTW even if I didn't include the CD part about letting a tank die, I did say let them die for the team, not just let them rot on the battlefield. Ow.)

I do. I often even play stereotypically "dive the enemy team for lulz and tanky deeps glory" things like Singed and Jarvan as pure tanks because they are very capable, expendable body guards and meatshields with their CC. Playing tank with teams that fail to capitalize on the first strike CC advantage (whenever initiation or catching an out of position enemy) you give them is no more different than:

    1. Playing carries and getting allies who think that because you got fast IE you are somehow an invincible god who can survive getting jumped on by Akali and Nocturne while they are busy chasing that Singed or no mana/no ulti Malzahar.
    2. Playing support and getting allies who are on a mental delay of 5 seconds for every time you heal them, shield them, cast Claivorance for them, Ward for them, etc. or use Shurelia's Reverie to give them a speed boost for chasing; ending up wasting the precious seconds of combat time your support actions afford them.
    3. Playing junglers and getting allies who cannot grasp the simple concept that if they keep pushing the lane you can't gank their bloody lane or that you should put some effort into doing something about that Nunu that casually strolls into for some counter-jungling.

You get horrible allies who do stupid things that piss you off no matter what role you play, and then blame you rather then admit their mistakes. If you are a tank who just both initiated and absorbed the full brunt of their opening burst, you have just won your team the fight if both sides are anywhere near equal. If they fail to capitalize on an advantage that big, no amount of healing/support spells tossed on you could have possibly saved that game.

  13. #413
So this ended up being a pretty interesting game, though the scores don't show it. Their team all had teleport/fortify and had all but one of our base towers down, despite being down like 30 kills or something. Every time we'd push a lane it would be a mass teleport and if teleport was down they'd run there and chain fortifies... If they had been better players it probably would have worked.

Ah yes, "Fort Club". My friends and I have been doing this for months. We all pick Fortify and Teleport and play defensive, with a lot of tanky gear. So far we hold a flawless winning record. It results in slower games but we win and it pisses off a lot of players, which given the overall LoL community is always a plus.

    What a horrible patch preview.

I don't feel that Riot has any plans or direction with these changes.

They just kinda built a shitcastle and are trying to prevent all the shit from flooding their offices by suppporting it with more and more poo bricks every patch.

But in the end, it still smells like ass.

Yeah, time to go on another massive win streak. +66% AP scaling on his ultimate, free 25 Magic Reduction from Q with longer range, Wider Ooze.

Q got a 25 range increase. It doesn't sound like much, but a lot of nukes of that style are 600-650 range. Gonna be very helpful for laning.

But, wow, I am still shitting bricks. There is no way they will let the R change stay or didn't stealth nerf it some other way.

Theoretically, yes. Practically, Artillery Kog has a buffer of 4 people between him and his victims. It's really hard to land his R shots against people who are paying attention or during poking; so most such Kogs just waste away their mana prior to the fight and are completely useless during the fight. The trick is, you don't continuously fire his ult off until you have a charged tear + another mana item + blue buff. Once you have a mana pool of 2000-3000, you become one of the best mana to damage conversion machines in the game.

And these buffs target the two damage oriented weaknesses of this kind of build - relatively weak pre-level 11, and tapering damage output when enemy carries finally start building HP/Magic Resist. Before, after amassing my usual mana/mpen items, I only had 300 AP and had to hybridize into a defensive item or Nashor Tooth to allow my W (for which artillery Kog is not optimized) to take over the faltering damage on his R. But now, if the game lasts that long, I get a death cap, with a nice, sexy 200 damage buff per shot on my R. This is going to be fun until Riot nerfs this hilariously pub stompy build.

Though, as part of a reality check, good teams and high elo will take advantage of the buffs his W based builds got rather than his R. My favorite Champion Build just got a fairly massive buff as a sideline, but it's rather difficult to pull of against smart opponents. We'll have to see. But I know I will be having fun smashing 550-600 damage nukes every 0.6 seconds into enemy carries. If people thought Ryze was bad, they are in for a treat.

Don't forget that his ult now scales with both AD and AP.

Heh. Rageblade/Bloodrazer/Malady Kogs incoming. This champ just got a lot of new life breathed into it for all sorts of builds. Hopefully, the relative difficulty of playing it coupled with the price will keep the population down. Otherwise, he will suffer Alistar's fate and just get nurfed.

    Also, mastery pages! W00t!

And by 'all sorts of builds' I'm sure you mean anything out of Malady/Rageblade/Nashor's/Gunblade/Bloodrazor... basically the items of every hybrid damage dealer.

Yeah, the variety is just staggering.

We will still see AD Kogs and they will still hit like trucks. As much disdain as I have for those, I won't deny that Kog'Maw skills are still fairly good steroids and AD builds benefit from all of the buffs. Hybrids will likely have the most raw damage output, but will be the squishiest and will be overly reliant on W for damage. AP Kogs, with God as my witness, will never die.

Though a high ELO personality like sydtko will probably do more to keep it alive than anyone.

You forgot the Sheen based items. But, yes, Hybrid itemization sucks .

Most of the debate about Hybrid builds seems to come from the order in which to build them.

Hybrid building is quite boring. The only champion I like building Hybrid is Jax, then again all I do with him is get his boots, throw on a Rageblade then just keep building Gunblades

They need more hybrid items that are less, Damage + AP and more ArmorPen and MagicPen, even Armour Pen + Magic Resistance

    Well, DICKERDOODLE.

They lied about the AP ratio buff.

    /kogtear

His other buffs are still fun, though. Oh, and I screwed up my math anyway. Was too excite and too braindeadtired. The buff would really ended up with 150 damage per R in ideal scenario; and only 100 damage bonus overall on standard Banshee Veil carry targets.

  32. #432
The Q change is great -MR and a range increase really help all builds out.

Rageblade is going to be fucking amazing now +126 damage to champions with full stacks, +83 without on his R; it also on it's own adds almost another percent to max health damage to his W with full stacks... For ~2200 gold

    Math is off. it's more like .3 / .3 x 1.5

Rageblade is still great on him though I just tried it out.

Math is def off. Fully stacked rageblade adds ~28 damage from AP and ~18 from AD to his R. A Gunblade would add about 52 total. Remember, against champions it is 200/300/400 + (0.3 per AP and 0.5 per bonus AD).

It's not even 1.5, it's a 2.5 multiplier. 80/120/160 --> 200/300/400. Riot really needs to overhaul and standardize the tooltip texts.

Lane Udyr is only a problem if he has a lanemate and you're soloing, or it's a 1v1 and you're melee.

He's a lot better jungler anyway.

  40. #440
Team composition seems to matter so much, I realized that I win far more games as Warwick not because I'm especially good with him, but because he brings a lot of utility to a team. Though I eventually get bored of playing one character and annoyed when no one else (among my friends) is willing or capable of playing a champ that complements teams better. I realize they'd get bored too, but it's just annoying at times .

  41. #441

As long as you have shitton of CC and a jungler, you can't go wrong.

Having a tank is nice, since this let's other team members build more glass cannon-y than otherwise. Ranged is really nice for laning, but it is only really required for pushing towers.

However, I've seen full melee teams dominate, as well as did well penta jungling.

  43. #443
I just starting playing again after a long hiatus and was surprised to see how many champions they've added. But then after, oh I don't know, thirty games, I realized there are about ten champions that get played frequently and the vast majority are rarely seen. It was this reason alone that I started playing Renekton, and I see now why he's not as popular despite being a decent champion. I just feel there are only ten to twelve champions that are really solid both conceptually and design wise, while the rest are just a whole bunch of "meh". Like Pantheon.

When is the last time you saw someone use Swain? I've yet to play with or against someone who uses him, and that's probably because his ultimate sucks and he's a hollow champion. Galio? Again, never once have I seen someone use him. Same with Trundle, Taric, and Maokai. Anytime I see a truly good player he's using one of the seven or so champions that absolutely everyone else uses, like Amumu, Xin, Warwick, Vayne, or Akali. Maybe I've just been unlucky, but it starts to get boring playing against the same champions over and over and over.

One of my friends is an absolute beast with Swain, he can easily carry the team most of the time he plays him. He's also really good at League of Legends though, so maybe that's more player skill than hero strength. I definitely agree though, most games you're bound to see at least one staple hero, gets kinda annoying. I've been seeing a lot of Tryndameres, Vladimirs, and the ones you listed.

Also what's wrong with Leonidas, he looked pretty cool based on what I've seen from other players.

I use Panth as a manly stunbot, building only a lil' AD paired with defence (Mallet, Hexdrinker).

He's too squish with a pure AD build. Building beefy will let you stay in the fight and spam that stun for annoyance.

His ult is nice too and his spear throw makes him a strong laner.

  47. #447
The problem might be that most new champs are OP for the first week or so, people play them, then you get whine then they nerf them, then almost no one plays them but people who like their game style. That said there are quite a few champs that are unique in what they offer to the team and in their playstyle.Renekton for example is a great tanky dps that can go both ways if needed and his gameplay is very fluid once you master him and it's insane fun to combo hits and harrass whoever you like then smack that fury charged W on them for some 400 damage.Taric too is quite an awesome support having a kickass heal, some nasty pushing ability mid to lategame and that very very sweet stun that can oftenly get you a first blood if you have a good lane partner.

Same. It really is astonishing how many complete and utter retards play this game (and I don't mean disrespect to actual retards). Of all the people I've judged so far none of have even come close to being pardoned and many taunt the players with welcoming their reports or gloating they've been reported numerous times and are still there. Hopefully via the Tribunal, they're no longer around.

Otherwise, it is kind of humorous to read the logs of the trolls. Many might find it slightly disheartening and jade you toward the human race, but I find it mostly funny in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
