So Patch 7.5 is to be released today, and for a change, WG decided to make a full changelog (faith restored!) with detailed changes of every vehicles. I really hope they will keep doing this.. Now, in my opinion the new X meds and TDs are horribly OP due to their insane guns, so I won't be touching my tier IX and X tanks in a while... Besides the fact that WG ruined tier IX and X balance, they completely balanced the game up to tier VIII and I am VERY satisfied with that and makes me feel that WoT has good hope again!

    Release Notes 7.5, WARNING: HUGE

So I figured, sure, lets try WoT again. Then after playing a little I remembered why I stopped. I simply get too frustrated at the ever present crappy team mates to enjoy playing. :/ Wargaming needs to patch the average IQ of its player base, seriously.

Platoon with someone here. I'm pretty sure we got some smart tankers. Even though it just be the two of you it should be fine.

I've been playing this a fair bit recently. Looking forward to the new matchmaking, not near tiwe 9 yet so the new tanks don't interest me much.

Grinding towards E75, finding KT bundles of fun. Getting slowly better, got mastery class 1 recently now I want ace!

Got XVM too, so cool. Males me feel good to be blue :-) got WoW config, seeing the damage per hit is great.

I'm not surprised. Anything within three feet of you seems to end up full of knife shaped holes.

So I just shot a Super Pershing 6 times in both the turret and lower hull with my T-44's 100m and all 6 did no damage despite penetrating. What. The. Fuck.

That's because of the SuperPershing's magic spaced armor. You penetrate the extra armor that is welded on top of the normal armor, but didn't penetrate the actual armor of the tank.. Yes WoT logic is very nice..

But hey, that's the only good thing the SuperPershing has..

I've been reading of the SP's 'magical' armour, and it pleases me. Definitely getting one when I return from France.

So, new patch is nice, I like the matchmaker, gives my stock T9 meds a fighting chance most of the time

    Also, a quote from Overlord:
"We are not planning to extend HT lines, as for SPGs we are going to stretch it out, thus, current tier 8 SPGs will be at tier 10."

    Interesting.

They will add physics and improve lightning in 0.8.0. I will maybe go back to WoT at this point, but I'm sick and tired of lousy Big World engine they use. I'm now thoroughly enjoying Star Conflict, great "WoT meets EvE" kind of game.

I got a code in PC gamer to try this out (m-22 locust and 3 days premium), and the gold is a very big noose around what is essentially an awesome game. Just the amount of money you have to sink in to really get something out of it is insane. Even playing my Locust, everything I earn goes towards... nothing. Because I need gold.

I'm also quite pissed at the tank balance. There's medium AND heavy tanks that are faster than me, and I'm in a shitty tier 1 light tank. Son of a bitch.

I might jump in again in version 8, because I want to try out the British tanks.

Hirmetrium, was this a recent PC Gamer? I normally get the mag and am curious if I somehow missed it.

The Locust is a tier 3 tank, what tier 1 tank are you having problems in? Crew Skill can have a big effect on how good your tank is. Most stats given are based on a crew with a 100% skill I believe.

The German tier 2 tanks (sorry, had to check that) Pz35t, and the french tier 1 tank (RT-17?) that moves at 17mph.

That's this months edition. UK - the mag also has a big wargaming.net article about how all the games will work together.

It also had a code for 1500 free gold, but, being hasty, I didn't find the right box with a referral code (BECAUSE IT WAS HIDDEN YOU BASTARDS) when I signed up. I also entered my world of warplanes beta key, which has disappeared into oblivion. Not happy about that either.

I've already given up on the locust and the stuart because I cannot utilize the EXP earned on them without gold. Such a stupid system.

  18. #1668
They're good for making money and if you dislike a tank enough that you're willing to spend cash to skip it.

Otherwise just turn on accelerate crew training and all that exp you earn will boost your crew training speed, giving you more skills faster.

  19. #1669
Hirmetrium, Premiums (Locust and I'm assuming the Lend-Lease Stuart) aren't really the best for grinding experience, though I suppose you technically can. I've never played the low tier premiums, but higher tier premiums are for training crews (no penalties for crew of the same class, so light tank crew in a light premium tank) and grinding credits (increased credit income and lower repair costs), and I imagine the same applies for the lower tiers.

I've been playing since January and I've used gold twice; once to buy a month of premium so I could complete the grind to the t34 before it became a premium tier 8, and once to buy a Churchill when they were on sale. The only thing gold really does is make grinding quicker, and using it on low tiers is kind of a waste. They don't take long to get out of in the first place, and some later tanks are really bad stock, or bad period (like most tier 4 light tanks) so its better to use gold in those situations.

By the way, what tank are you seeing heavies in. Tier 2's should only be facing tier 3's at most and last I checked the first heavies don't show up until tier 4, and I'm pretty certain the M3 and Locust are faster than the heavies they face.

I've noticed that after the Matchmaker change Tier 3 tank destroyers sometimes end up in Tier 2/3 matches, but after playing about 20 games with my own Tier 3 tank destroyers I've yet to get into these low tier games. Is it based off of your crew experience, so that high experience vehicles don't end up in those matches? I'll tell you one thing, my Marder II or T82 would mop up in a Tier 2/3 game if I ever end up in one.

ECL AMX is awesome when it's not dumped in high tier match-ups as a scout. It's awful as a scout due to the awful aim time and lack of a fully-traversable turret, as you can only suicide run and can't damage anything while moving at high speed. It's better as a tank destroyer in match-ups that a Tier 5 tank destroyer would end up in (max tier 7). The few Tier 5-7 games I ended up in were a blast with it, and I got my 2nd class mastery badge on my very first game with it (killed 4 tanks).

Hirm, premium tanks are designed for fun, credit and freexp. They need gold to get said xp, it's better to play the 'actual' tanks as that xp can be used up the tree and class line.

Indeed. Normal tanks and premium tanks do have different MM. Although normally the premium tanks MM works in its favour often leaving it as the top tier tank in the battle.

I get gold every now and then, as I like to play a lot of tier 9/10 games. With Tier 10s there is nothing to spend the xp on but crew training, so I tend to just let them gather xp then when I have a healthy amount I treat myself to premium for a month and then whatever is left over on creating free xp. I like to have a free xp tank on the ago. By that I mean use my free xp purely to unlock a tank I fancy having a go in, instead of using it to supplement the current tanks I'm working on. That said I'm not really sure what I should spend my free xp on. Any suggestions for the American tanks? I've got a T30 but that is the only American tree I've gone down.

Americans are all great in higher tiers. Though turretless TDs are too slow for my taste.

Only 1 american is good in higher tier, and thats Unlce same the T-110. I got the new patton, and well sigh bounce bounce bounce.

Actually it's a lot more precise than that. Every tier and every category has a range of matches it can end up in. Here's the chart: https://worldoftanks.com/dcont/fb/im...5_mm_na_un.jpg

So Tier 3 tank destroyers can end up in a match with Tier 2 light tanks, medium tanks, and tank destroyers. I just haven't been put into any of those matches yet with my Marder II, which means they might have another balancing factor to prevent highly skilled players from ending up in that match-up.

  28. #1678

The top gun on the M48a1 has 1 less penetration than the t110, 268 vs 269. You shouldn't have any problems penning, except maybe at long distance where APCR loses pen faster than AP shells. I think all the new tier 10 meds us credit APCR standard.

I've gotten to the Pershing, M103, and t25/2 in the US tree. The medium line is a joy all the way through so far, except the lee. All the Sherman variants are fun to play and make good credits, the T20 is fast and short, and the Pershing is good at just about everything. The heavy line is great except for the M6, until you get the 90mm which you want before getting into the T29. The Jumbo (I avoided the T1 HT) has great frontal armour and good guns, the T29 is basically the best tank in its tier when it can hull-down, the T32 makes up for a low pen gun with an impenetrable turret and great face-hugging potential, and the M103 has decent frontal armour,a good rapid-fire gun, and good mobility.

I prefer to use free exp (the natural stuff that builds up) to get out of stock tanks, since most tanks are really bad stock. Like the T32; it starts with a soft turret and it doesn't do to well until the turret is upgraded, so I free exp'd the tracks and used a bit to get the turret quicker. After that it became one of my favourite tanks.

I have a very good experience with T29/T32/M103/T110 T20/Pershing/Patton Wolverine/Slugger/T25 - they are really great. I'm only talking about tanks I drive/drove. America is one of the most balanced sides in WoT.

8.0 should include physics and new rendering engine.

I have some reservations about the graphics. Physics are really needed though. Compare visuals to Battlefield 3 tanks and you will see. WG pays really little to no attention to the details.

So I want to buy another set of tanks to have some more play styles then I currently have in my garage which is full of mediums. My question to you dolts with more experience with the different tanks, is which new tree should I go into? I'm looking at the German TD line, the USSR TD line, and the French TD line, as well as the IS, but I can't decide which of those I want. So which one do you guys think is the most fun and unique of those? Or should I be instead looking at another tree to go down? And don't say Arty because I find it boring.

The french TD's are pretty good once you get to the AC 46 and above. They're quick and have some lovely armour pen on the guns. However to get to them you have to get past the Souma 40 (which is a complete dog of a tank) and wrestle with the ARL V39 until you've it's top gun. However I should mention that you do become a large green target for artil's to push full damage shells through, likewise on hills you can end up showing off the various tanks micky mouse ears on top which might as well have butter for armour.

The German line all of the tanks are pretty solid all rounders and have great turning circles and accuracy, even the Jagpanz played well is decent and doesn't deserve the stick some people give it, and the Jagpanther upwards are all pretty fun TD's.

The USSR tanks will probably give you the most bang for your buck. The SU-100 is excellent, and the Durp gun on the SU-152 can lead to some lol moments. Then of course you get to the ISU-152, which when equipped with the BL-10 is one of the most feared tanks in game.

EDIT: I should mention that depending on when 0.8 is out they are going to add another tree to the USSR TD's which could be interesting. It depends how long you're willing to wait for them

  37. #1687
Forgot a video I found awhile back. This one is all about the new rendering system, with comparisons between current and new versions, and mentions that FPS should improve or stay the same.

I currently have the IS, and it's pretty fun. Big gun, fairly quick for a heavy, and the armour can be surprisingly bouncy . However, of the tier 7 heavies, its the one that most plays like a medium since its armour is inconsistent and and it has the speed to flank, and its gun is inaccurate so snipping is not the way to go. I also have the Tiger, which is really not that good until it has the long 88 and even then I find it kinda mediocre. Haven't played the Tiger P, KV-3, or the french heavies.

If you want a unique heavy, I'd go with the T29. It's very good for its tier, the gun is great except for reload time, and the turret armour is basically invincible from the front (though you want to wiggle during reloads so its hard to hit the hatch). The kinda weak hull armour means you want to go hull-down as much as you can, and because of that it really makes appreciate gun depression and teaches you how to use the terrain to your advantage.

The US turreted TD's are also nice. Up to tier 6 they're very fast and have decent guns, which makes them great for getting into positions early or relocating. They're turret traverse is slow though, so avoid trying to play it as a medium.

Edit: I only got up to the STUG in the German td line, but they were all pretty good when upgraded.

Yea I already own the Wolverine and Hellkitty and enjoy them both. I've decided on the USSR TDs after remembering that derp guns are fun, and the USSR has the best derpy guns.

SU-152 is best with its D25 gun. Its the only vehicle I can tolerate D25.

  40. #1690
I second your suggestion on USSR TD's, after the somewhat mediocre T3-4 tanks you are in for a very fun ride to the top.

Something I've realized so to speak after a bit of thinking is just how bland the German tanks are. Their biggest problem, in my opinion is just that they're really good tanks and nothing else, precise machines with precise guns, good armor and health, nothing really to make them interesting except their averagness compared to the other nations. They are like the middle ground, not having the derp guns and low armor of soviets, and not having the extreme armor and depression of the americans, not even the extreme firepower of the french.

The best example of this is the mentioned JagdPz4, it's by no means a bad tank, I've had some fun in mine and I did quite well with it. But it's just so bland and average compared to the other lines I'm struggling to remember why I went after it first. It has nothing to make it quirky and unique like the other nations do, which I guess makes it special in a way because there are no strong or weakpoints (except the pen maybe) that you need to be mindful of when playing and which you can't maximize/minimize to your advantage.

They're still fun I think, but not as fun as the others I guess.

Also, the 0.8 update will fuck up the gameplay so much for the first month or so for everyone who joined a while before it comes. Every map will be different, some more and some less, but we'll see chaos in higher tiers as players struggle to adapt to the numerous new possibilities that will open with maps that are accessible, some will adapt quicker and some slower so we'll probably see a bunch of different tactics emerge from the better players and most of the other people trying to follow them.

New players however will have this stuff from te beggining, no preconceptions about good or bad tactics or spots will need to be erased from their playstyle.

I ended up using my free xp to help me get the top gun on the T30. It is a beast. Takes an age to load but the amount of damage you do makes people think twice before they pop their head out to shoot you.

My fav tank would be the Batchat tho. I just love zooming around in that thing clearing up towards the end of the match. Is there a dolt clan btw?

The soviet TD line is full of glory. Just derp your way to the BL-10. That gun is stupidly fun.

I've now acquired my E-75 :-) Such an absurdly sexy tank.

  44. #1694
I think new MM has made t5~7 battles kinda ridiculous -.- kv1 just dominates in lower tiered games.. same goes for other tanks that are great for its own tiers but not so much against higher tiers (easy 2, vk3601, etc etc). It's certainly much more fun to play as you're more likely to be on the top.

Also isn't new su85 awesome? This thing is a sniping machine now..

type 59, type 62, two german lights available as gift shop promotions from 24th of august to 31st, I'll be snagging myself a type 59 this time around, the type 62 is a smaller version of the type 59 with pretty ossum speed, turning and gun, probably going to see alot of the lil buggers, they are however tier 6 so as a light they are going to be in same area as t50-2.

Type 62 looks really fun, but I'm not completely sold on it. One of the great things about premiums is the ability to train up your crew on any tank in the same class (light, medium, heavy) without having to retrain them. E.g. IS-7 Crew in a KV-5 train them up, put them in your shinny IS-7. Can't do that with the Types as there are no other tanks.

Thanks for the code. Where did you read about that?

Also I picked up the PC Gamer magazine for September today and it came with codes for goodies for World of Tanks as well \o/

Free M22 Locust and 3 days Premium, and also came with World of Warplanes beta access! I'm a Happy camper ^.^
