I'm more surprised because Arcade Fire are seen as a bit of a mainstream band around here. I mean, they're an arena band these days.

Anyone who actually believes that industry awards shows are anything but major labels patting themselves on the back is delusional. They are rigged and predetermined from the get-go - labels pay good money to have their artists nominated, and then usually album sales and marketing budgets decide the winners. They'll throw a few curveballs into the mix but usually the results are pretty straightforward in terms of who paid how much in order to "win". hell, I'm personally acquainted with one of the members of Broken Social Scene, and he was fairly open with me about how the whole process works, and the ridiculous sums the label paid to have the band nominated several times before their "turn" came around to win. He uses his Junos as doorstops now, go figure.

Anyways, to reiterate, anyone who takes industry awards shows seriously needs to pull their heads out of their asses. Especially the chick who talks about how much radio she listens to. it's definitely NOT something to be proud of.

edit* Wow, I couldn't even make it through the first full minute of the third video, godDAMN that guy is irritating.

Also, yeah reki, arcade fire is really well known, they've been around for a while and put out several full length albums to date. Definitely not some kind of underground act.

Me i'm just happy a band i like actually got the best album award for once. Good for them.. i wouldn't be upset if they didn't get it and nor would they i think.

That's surprising to me. I didn't know the Arcade Fire were as popular as they are.

That being said. I've only ever really liked a few of their songs, however out of all the other nominees for that reward, I'd say they're the best ones up there.

So wait, do you all think The Fame was actually a bad pop album? Because, i thought, in all honesty, it delivered. And well. #notroll
Obviously the suburbs was a good album, but just because it's pop dosn't mean you should hate it, and that's sorta the impression i get from this thread :P

Edit: Now i think about it, it's more hate of her ignorant fans, which is totally valid.

DAMMIT! Now I'm gonna have to download a new internet!

@TDG: I think, playing the law of averages, that every Canadian either knows someone, is related to someone or is someone from Broken Social Scene, aren't they?

I can't find anything interesting to Lady Gaga really, but she gets enough hate without me, at least she's not Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber beating The National in the Brits just made my brain bleed.

Arcade Fire are a band I do like, but the Suburbs doesn't deserve the acclaim to me, it's an improvement on the pomposity of Neon Bible and it's a solid record with several very good songs, but also a lot of filler, and equally never quite catches fire for me, never gets an edge to it and instead plays it safe frequently. Funeral, their first record was a bruised beauty of a record, melodramatic sure but rooted in growing up in a way that felt new, and with lovely melodies. At this point though they need a new topic apart from growing up, and they never have convinced me recently with their anger like they did on Power Out on the first record.
