Looks really good dude. Only one thing, I would make the sandbags completely vertical in the axis checkpoint.

Thanks. I hoped noone would notice those. I'm still learning how to work with spline tool.

Well you could do 1 of 2 things, either use the spline tool to make a real trench, or place the sandbags and don't press auto align.

Looks great so far, especially for a first map! And quite ambitious to go straight for a 8 player map!

I like the one screen shot showing the street (titled street) with that slight change of elevation as the road curves around that house the way it does. I can't tell from the other pictures shown, but that's one of the things I like with a good CoH map, and that's various levels of landscape elevations. Especially if they can be built on, as opposed to being just obstructions. For example, in the shot I just mentioned, that would be a nice place to park an AT gun, or in those mods that allow it, you could plop down a pantherturm bunker thing to cover that road with maybe some MG and/or sniper support in the nearby buildings.

I am also glad you chose to do an 8 player map as we don't see too many of those. I think you've got a good talent with this so far from what I've seen, and can't wait to check it out!

Here's overhead map with starting positions.

    Spoiler

This map started out as a play in WB, I wouldn't normally go with this large map but when I got to the point when it wasn't playing around no more I couldn't stop working on it. And there is a lot more land elevations through out the town as it's a hill town with steady rise in terrain.

    Thanks all for comments.

Ok, that's a bit of a shocker. Glad it'll be an 8p map. It looks good, and hopefully it'll run on most computers.

megaupload = bad choice you can only download a certain amount of data per day..

  13. #13
As in the other 8 player map, i must say that u have too much fuel. here ill explain: 32 fuel means low teching and 42 means fast teching .. i can see alot of fuel in this map. The fight should go who holds the fuel points. Please fix this, cause u will see every relic 8p map is made like this. but otherwise looks good. oh and ammo should be like 65-80

@nobady: I'll upload next version on rapidshare too.
@Spankzor: Thanks for the tip. Wasn't familiar with that.

sure? for me i have the only problem with megaupload that you can download always only 1 file at the same time. Then waiting 45seconds and you can download the next part.

Awesome Map, simply top drawer! Love big maps and this is simply one of the top maps out there for game play. I'm no expert when it comes to map builder, I'll leave that to others, but as for playability this map will be hard to beat. Lovely layout and design, and the surprises kept jumping up for two straight games with Friend. Spent two games trying with little success to stop the enemy at the bridges (American AI) only to finally realize that there was three fords... yowzers!!!

Keep up the great work, this is a Winner

Am I alone on playing 8 player maps as 1v1? specially with NHC or WWRealism?

Downloading... can't play tonight though =( no time with all these projects and other crap!

It's a fun map, my system didn't lag much playing as a 3vs3. It's quite a fun map, especially as even the AI has a lot of freedom to flank, i was constantly surprised by most of the Axis armour flanking around my units. I had to devote 2x Fireflies, 1 Sherman Mk.V, and a Command tank to chase after them. I needed that many units because it was often the better armour like Panthers, Ostwinds, Panzer IVs, and Marder IIIs, travelling in groups of 2-4 tanks! Admittedly i was playing Cross of Iron, but that mod doesn't change gameplay much, and doesn't change the AI at all. While my main armour had to run all over the map after enemy armour, i only had 4x Tommy squads with attached Lts (in two groups) with some supporting tank destroyers to actually fight the Germans and try to win.

I started on the narrower side of the map, and i could tell from the tacmap that the map wasn't meant to be a choke point map centered around the river. I expected there to be a number of fords, and wasn't disappointed.

@ Humble: I did find some issues though. The map doesn't seem to have been made with the Commonwealth in mind, what Medium and High resource points there are have their sectors cluttered with crap, which makes setting the trucks up in those sectors difficult. You have to spend a fair amount of time driving the truck around the sector to clear enough space, and even then, getting the triage centre to fit in as well is even harder. Perhaps you could remove a lot of the crushable items the sectors with medium and high resources, or at least clear enough space that a HQ truck can easily set up?

Gday Just downloaded and played. It is an excellent map with great authentic looking landscapes.

I have a couple of suggestions - I am not a map maker just a player that likes big 4 players maps that have an air of realism. This one certainly does.

Any chance of a dawn or midday sunny weather option so you can see your troops a little better.
Perhaps reduce the number of medium and high resource points or perhaps reduce the number of sectors and make them bigger as I was floating in everything the whole game.
Perhaps reduce the number of objects or whatever as I had some minor lag the entire game - not unplayable just a little jerky - I am not a map maker so not really sure how to reduce this. I run a fairly fast system (Quad core @ 3.2 Gig, 8Gig RAM, 5870 Graphics card) and can usually play any map on highest settings without any lag.

One really minor point that I didn't notice until I was scrolling around the map after the game finished. There is a floating Blitz truck on a rail carriage in the right hand corner train area.

Cheers for the great work keep it up and look forwrd to playing this map in the future.

PS How big is the map compared to the standard Relic 4 player maps?

Just awesome. Played with midday weather (thanks for that inclusion) and it was great. Really nice visuals, nice big area to move around in plenty of buildings for fwd hqs and mg to occupy. Thanks for all this.

3 points from the map this time.

    1. Now you have removed all the medium and high resource points no areas to fight over to gain the upper hand in resource income. Perhaps a couple of mediums maybe 2 fuel 1 ammo in good areas to have a battle. Thoughts??
    2. The top ford is really slow to get through. Tanks go in, back up, go fwd, back up, turn sideways, go fwd, turn sideways, etc etc etc. Perhaps remove the rock in the middle of the ford to make it easier to get through. Again thoughts??
    3. Really really really minor point. There is a path leading up through the cliffs across the top that has a rock planted in the middle of it with small bush beside it. Was this a path at first and you changed your mind and decided to block it off? Could this be open for another way up onto the high ground? Again thoughts??

But overall really great map that will get some good use with my mates.

Edit: Don't worry too much about point 3 as I have watched it in reply and troops can easily use that path. It just looks a little funny as the path goes into the rock and out the other side. Cheers.

    Cheers

Point 2 and 3 were planed for infantry only, point 3 is that way because tanks would have same problem as with point 2. And for point 1 I was following Spankzor's advice but I'll give it another try and figure out a better layout.

    Thanks.

Cheers mate. Ok I figured the fords were for infantry. I am no map maker just a player. Having read Spankzor's advice I agree. Perhaps join two sectors together to make one and have it as a medium. Do this a couple of times and voila all good. No need for high points but a couple of mediums might be alright. It plays fine at the moment so either way it is still a great map.

    Edit:

Perhaps starting position numbers on the slots map. So we know where we are starting from. Cheers

First of all, great work on your first map - 8 players takes a lot of effort and it looks like you've filled it out and detailed it well. I'd second people's calls for a few more high munition or fuel points in the middle of the central town - that looks like the key area and you want to give it maximum focus. I'd also think carefully about bridge placement - due to the river team 1 is in danger of being pegged back behind those bridges, or if they're destructible, having their forces cut off and unable to get reinforcements across = loss. I'd think about having some wide, indestructible bridges by the main town to help mitigate that (they'll still act as chokepoints, as you intended). It might even be worth looking at another bridge at the top of the map (destructible maybe to keep it interesting), and maybe even some defensible high ground on the west side of it to allow team 1 to keep a foothold in case they lose the fight for the central town (the south bridge/ford would be relatively easy to block as team 2). GL.

Good revisions with the medium fuels. However, the 2 x 10 fuels are much closer to the players at the bottom of the map giving them a major fuel advantage. Try to move 1 x 10 fuel closer to the northern players (top of the map). Perhaps swap it with an ammo up further, this will balance out the fuel and not give one team an advantage. Sorry to be a stick in the mud on this, but trying to help. Also when playing fixed positions I think you need to show where each player starts. This allows players to know where they are starting and help players choose their starting positions.

    Cheers
