What to buy?

    What to buy?

    Amazon lists:

    COH,
    COH opposing fronts
    COH gold edition
    COH Tales of valor
    COH game of the year
    COH collectors edition
    COH Anthology (forget this at$149.99)

I have tried the steam demo - which one above should I buy?

    Thanks in advance,

$149 for the anthology is a ripoff. If you have a local store, check it out. also check out the likes of gamersgate and steam for deals on the lot.

Are you likely to be playing single player or mutlipayer only?

I expect that single player would be what I'd play the most. Multiplayer is not out of the question though given a good, clean source for competition.

Tales of Valour gives you all 4 factions + extra units + 3 mini campaigns and some gimmicky multiplayer modes (that not one really seems to play, from what I've heard). You won't need as many patches (some of which are really big) if you buy this.

CoH Gold will give you vCoH and OF. You'll get the original campaign and 2 OF campaigns, and all 4 factions if you add the second product to the first. I woudl recommend installing OF and then adding CoH, since you'd patch less if you install OF, but still more than ToV.

Not sure what the GOTY edition and Collector's edition give you, though from the looks of it it's only the original CoH.

The 149 for the anthology is indeed a rip off. You can buy all three products on steam for 49.97 or 49.98 (if you buy all 3 products separately or CoH gold + ToV respectively).

If you don't want the original campaigns (they're not all that good, to be honest) you're better off buying ToV. It's only $20 on steam right now. It requires fewer patches to bring you up to speed, and gives you everything except for the original campaigns.

If you don't care about the replacement units (some of them are useless, some of them are just weird versions of their counterparts, the OP ones will be nerfed with the next patch) or the 3 mini campaigns (which are apparently very short and not terribly good either) or the three extra gimmicky game modes, then get CoH gold on steam.

I paid the anthology 9 euro, and that was quite a while ago.

and i see the anthology for 12 euroes on Amazon, so something is a bit weird with that price. And if you are into singleplayer, then i'd certainly recommend the anthology since you get all 6 campaigns that way although if you can't get the anthology, the gold edition is almost as good since the Tales of Valor campaigns while good aren't that long.

Yeah if single player is your thing, than the anthology would be best. especially at 12 eauro.

I already have vanilla and opposing fronts, is it worth getting tales of valor, i can get the anthology for £9 but would i have to start with new a account?

Well not much reason to get the anthology if you already have CoH and opposing Fronts. As to tales of Valor. That's more of a tricky question, if you want the additional reward units, the option to play some new game modes and 3 short but good campaigns, then yeah, get Tales of Valor, if none of those things really interest you, no real reason to get it.

if you were to ask for my personal opinion i'd say it's very worth getting tales of Valor, but that is my personal opinion

Get Gold edition and you're good to go. ToV has some neat add-ons, but nothing spectacular.
