    Imperial Guard WarCraft III World Editor query

    I know it's an old game, but it's a classic and the campaigns are superb.

    Anyway, I vaguely remember making one or two (horribly unbalanced) custom maps in the past, but I wondered whether it was possible to edit the game more generally - for campaign and/or skirmish play - so that certain buildings and units have different statistics and abilities. Think of it like modding Company of Heroes, where I can edit what the Krieg Barracks trains and it applies on any skirmish or multiplayer map regardless.

    There are two main things I'd like to do, but I have no idea if they're possible:

    - add the Captain to the Human Barracks; I'd give him an ability or two and make him tier two (Keep) so that he is noticeably different from the Footman. Obviously he'd be more expensive as well.

    - swap the Crypt Lord and the Pit Lord; I think the former are better suited to being mercenaries whilst the latter work well alongside Dread Lords as leaders of the Scourge. I know they're (sort of) Burning Legion, but whatever.

    To be honest, pretty much everything I'd like to do has already been done in the various campaign missions (such as having Dread Lords summon Doom Guards instead of Infernals) but I don't like the idea of having to play a specific mission to play with my changes.

    I don't play WarCraft III multiplayer at al l (gasp!) so online compatibility is not an issue.

    I'm not really sure what I'm doing (but could no doubt figure it out in the World Editor if pointed in the right direction and told that what I want to do is indeed possible) so please be as clear and in-depth as you can.

    Never personally modded Warcraft 3 but I do know that you can do everything you described and more, check out DOTA and Tower Defence. There world building tool is extremely powerful. Your best bet is to check out http://www.wc3c.net/forumdisplay.php?f=13 . Sorry I could not be more help but I only played it for the campaigns.

    To my knowledge you have to change what the Barracks builds on each map you make, there is no way to mod it so you can play with barracks that produce Captains on any map on any game mode.
    When I wanted to add units, I'd load a custom map and edit the build tree for each, perhaps there is a way to do it easier than that but I don't recall it.
    If I can recall, you can edit what a Barracks builds on the Barracks unit entry in the editor, just open the file and you'll eventually find the bit with a build queue.
    As for swapping the Heroes, I found that customising or moving heroes stops them being limited to just one, so if you edit the Pitlord to be buildable by the Undead, you can't force it to allow only one to be built.
