IG Stronger Than They Appear!

    IG Stronger Than They Appear!

I was playing the Inquistor level of the demo and on a whim decided to test the strength of the guardsman on the pair of Nobs that spawn in the final wave of the level. To my surprise the guardsmen wrecked both of the nobs in about 4-5 volleys of las fire (about 30 seconds of continuous fire).

Okay here we go sorry that I stopped recording right before the second nob gets lit up like a christmas tree.

P.S. Thank you to the forum gretchins for setting up these sub forums.

    Wow... that's... impressive.

What difficulty were you playing on? And were your squadmates also firing at them? That may have helped.

On hard and you can see some stray bolt rounds hit one of the orks, but generally my squadmates were neck deep in slugga boyz.

From my observations they are pretty weak. Nobs are never alive when the guard arrive from me, but they could not down an ork boy in 3 or 4 salvos, that was with a squadmate fighting it, who eventually killed it.
Seems odd that those nobs dropped so fast, maybe the plattform is some sort of kill zone for enemies, because it's the level exit?

Ha if the nobz actually had it in their mind to kill the IG they'd be as useless as you'd expect!

I'm not surprised. Anything within three feet of you seems to end up full of knife shaped holes.

Not sure Kam I think it my have to do with proximity or perhaps Nobs don't take damage normally like your average enemy does. I have tried luring Slugga boyz to the lift but you have to kill a certain number of the enemies in the wave to get the lift to show up in the first place, but I am going to try again today.

The guardsman in question are invincible so they can't die, but it is pretty funny watching them fly around when a Nob does finally decid to hit one of them.

Are you sure that's even possible Ewokz? I thought it's not due to the law of invisable wall..?

99% sure they can't die, and it does appear that the elevator is actually a killzone as Kami suggested.

I have to see if I can replicate it, if I manage it I'll post up the footage. What happened to me was I rolled as the Ork swung, meaning he hit the guard instead, nob seemed ok on the platform while he did it. The guy might have just been shifted/pushed to another area of the lift though by the attack and I was just unaware.

EDIT: Yep they defiantly can be knocked off to there deaths, for some reason in the game I just played the guardsmen that fell off was frozen in a fall animation off the edge of the lift, he disappeared when the lift began to move though.

@Nightwolf: I hear that. Relic did a nice job with way all the enemies looks in this game. Even while I was playing DoW 1 and 2 I never fully realized just how huge orks are.
I found myself cheering a bit for the guardsmen. Always have loved the normal human soldiers that stand against the worst the galaxy has to throw at them.

Ironically, I've watched guardsmen try to kill grots, but they take too long. I always lost my patience (which, granted, isn't terribly hard) and killed them myself. Considering a single bolt or stun attack will kill a grot, I figured I shouldn't have to wait any significant amount of time for the guardsmen to finish them off, but seems not.

I get the feeling Guardsmen don't do any damage outside of their heavy weapons and maybe premarked 'kill zones' like the elevator. Their turrets insta-gib things, their plasma cannons most definatly kill things, but I'm not so sure their 'normal' attacks do anything but look pretty.

When I first met with the IG even before Mira, there was this small firefight against me, that sissy pissy codex-fanboy ultrasmurf and I think the awesome old grandpa ultrasmurf, some IG and Orks. After I killed 99.999999% of Orks, one Ork was still alive. While my Ultrasmurfs kept shoving him right into a wall, the IG guys just stood there shooting the Ork for about 15-20 seconds before I bothered to finish him. I bet he didn't attack back because those flashlights tickled him

Ork slugga boyz often die by "instakill script" when in range of guardsman melee. Spotted on hard difficulty, especially in part 1 trenches.
