Nob, Leave me alone!

    Nob, Leave me alone!

I must be missing something on how to take down these mongrels. I've tried several things but in the end I have to just use attrition to get them to the damage induced stun. I've tried 5-stacking mines (figured something like Mkolls tactic would work), grenades at their feet, running and gunning, and straight melee with dodging. Dodging is apparently hard because even some times I still get minor damage from his attacks. I thought I had read that you could induce a stun attack on them, but so far I have only gotten the damage induced stuns. I am playing on Normal.

On melee, I can barely get 2 strikes in before his delivery. Should I be initiating two empty swings before my last two (with the heavy strike) get close enough to him?

Grenades plus bolter fire right at his skull. Later just spam the thunderhammer and fury.

On normal i found that 2 clips of bolter fire+rolling away until you're done shooting, followed up by melee till you get the stun works pretty well.

Fury (even just with chainsword) also really helps. The nobs aren't really that bad unless you're already at fairly low health and have nobody to execute (wait for them to start attacking, roll away, execute, and then fight).
    Life gives you a present...

And then kicks you in the balls >_>

I've just been hitting fury mode every time a nob shows up. It's not hard to charge it up, and I haven't really needed it for anything else. On normal mode a full combo with the chainsword kills a nob outright, and you can even pull it off from almost no health, since fury heals you so much. The first level of fury is enough to kill 2 nobs no problem. If you've got no fury, kite backwards and empty bolter magazines into them, rolling whenever they get close enough to start swinging... this is a little scarier, but it works.

I was honestly hoping there was some great strategy to this, but all i see are things i've tried myself. When it comes down to it now, i just save my furys, or if im lucky, i attack him from afar before he becomes aware of me and i wear him down.

I usually just shoot them with my plasma pistol (or bolt pistol) in the head while slowly back paddling. I don't waste bolter rounds on singular nobz. Or if I want to create a movie moment I counter charge them when they start charging me (imagine seeing that in an actual space marine movie with decent graphics/actors and special effects).

Generally speaking it can be said that all stun attacks except for the initial one hit stun attack will also interrupt Nobz (maybe the one-strike stun "combo" would stun him too thou, it's just my impression that it does not or at least not as effectivly as stun combos consiting of more than 1 strike) leaving them open for an attack.

I'm not quite sure thou if using stun combos is actually an effective way of killing them as it appears to take much, much longer to take them down in melee compared to just shooting them in the head again and again until they can be executed.

I only use Fury or grenades when there is more than one nob coming at me (or they brought friends) and I'm low on health.

Also I've found that it is very simple to avoid their melee attacks as the attack begins with the nob starting to roar. So even if you are in melee range all you have to do is do a combat roll right when he starts roaring and he will most certainly miss. I usually roll *past* him so that I'm actually behind him when I have finished the roll.

And again, you can break the nobz charge simply by counter charging (e.g. sprinting towards him and then pressing any melee attack button while sprinting) or rolling out of the way when he is about to impact with you. All it requires is a bit of practice.

One last piece of advice: when facing nobz while under ranged fire.. lure them into an area where you are no longer under pressure from ranged attacks.

    Hope that helped =)

    No, really....
If you are using Fury for nobz, just walk up to them and press E for free kill, heal, and AoE stun.

Nobs can be instantly killed melee only, you just have to time it. The foot stomp stuns nobs when you're close enough. You need a little practice and timing, but you can chain 3 regular attacks from a little before the nob so he doesn't interrupt the combo, then hit the stun button. Stomp can't be interrupted, so the nob will be stunned guaranteed.
Grab and mash attack to execute him. Or use fury and execute him right away.

Edit: Recorded a little youtube clip (before SM release, so it's the demo) to show the strategy to a friend who wouldn't believe me I was killing nobs that way. First time I mess up because I didn't mash the button fast at all :o I finish the entire demo without using fury or anything besides the bolt pistol/melee/grenades.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3aB94SpgKE 3:20 has the first nob, difficulty was hard. 5:30 on is try 2 with the nob, but I fail to stun a few times. 7 minutes in shows a "perfect" nob kill and after 14:20 I kill the dual nobs. (got lucky there with the execution, the other sync kill would've taken longer to stun the boys around me)

My problem with Nobs is that even I used 4-chain Right Click attack against it, it doesn't even got knocked backand just continue to club me. I mean, What? Isn't the 4-chain the best one to knockout enemies?
Hope things will get better as I now got my Power Axe. Or the Footstomp one as mentioned earlier.

Also for those unnoticed: even if you stun them and try to execute they can still wake up, pushing your sword away and pummel you. Appearantly you got to Right Click until you got to saw their heads off.

    Regular orks are pushovers.

    1.) Melee
    2.) Melee
    3.) Melee
    4.) Stun
    5.) Execute / button mash mini-game
    6.) ????
    7.) Profit

The bigger, meaner nobs encountered later in the game require some softening up first or a thunderhammer to interrupt (most of) their attacks long enough to trigger the stagger before execution is possible. Charged sticky plasma balls do the trick while also thining out the mobs that usually follow him while trying to get to you.

Fury will do the trick most of the time.

If you get caught without fury mode and you want to give yourself a headache - melee, stun, melee, melee, stun (repeat until the icon shows up, then execute)

easier: 4 combo the lesser orks then go fury on the nob.

I found a surefire way to outmelee a Nob, you have to be pretty relentless though.
Basically you have to dodge his first attack by rolling backwards, after that run up to him and spam
STUN>Melee>STUN combo over and over untill he's, well, stunned enough to execute him.
You can stunlock him making it impossible for him to act.

    Good luck

Running charge normally stuns dem boyz long enough to put into a stun locklock.
melee > melee> Stun and repeart.
Failing that Head shoots will drop them nice and quick like...

If you don't have a lascannon, get a lascannon. That will lead to everything being easier. If its before you get a hold of a lascannon then its a matter of saving up your furies (you don't really need to use them even on hard until something big like nobs show up). Other options include shooting them a bunch in the face with the stalker bolter or grenades.

Don't bother trying to melee nobs unless you have a thunderhammer, unless its just for the fun of it or your wanting a challenge.

But really once you get the lascannon keep it at all times it basically puts the game on easy mode as you can 1-2 hit everything with it.

As I recall the combo system is broken and you only need to hit the stun move. My tactic was to start the stun combo early, missing every shot but the stun, then execute. I barely used fury until the last levels, but then I did find the whole game horribly dull, so maybe that would have helped.

  18. #18
You can keep them stunned almost nonstop if you use continuously hit attack then stun.

i rarely ever use fury to the point i forget it's even there(or how to even use it..) never had trouble dealing with nobs. simply charge at em and knock em em back melee until he begins his attack, stun again and repeat. never fails, unless there are 2 then just blast at his skull with the bolter and dodge till he's stunned.

pretty much exactly what Kam!kazee said.
