The Vengeance Launcher. Does it need improving?

But yes, another for the camp of "multi-kill achievements suck". That said, it adds evidence my theory that some perks are designed to be attained in Exterminatus.

The Vengeance Launcher is fine. Do you realize how fast it fires? In SP it's a god send, you kill at least 3 orks per second with it. It's just click (M1), tap (r), click, tap click tap, and then all the orks are dead. Seriously the RoF for the gun is fucking awesome! I've only tried SP (CRACKYFREEDOMGOODNESS), but if it's the same in MP, then why are people complaining?

Because it's not the same in multiplayer. It's normally helpful to have experienced, or at least be passingly familiar with, the pertinent aspects of a discussion before jumping in.

I must admit the most hilariously frustrating defeats I had was against a vengeance launcher tac while running my trusty chainsword zeal+DFA ASM.

Its been said before, but the rate of fire the vengeance launcher is developing is very high, in combination with air-bursting and laying down the occasional trap, the weapon is very much lethal. I very seldomly see the launcher used, but when I do, there isn't a single thing I can do as an ASM but get completely faceraped by it. the only way I even get these guys killed is by switching for a stalker or storm bolter tac. because you can remain hugely mobile while firing the weapon, ambushing a well-played vengeance tac is seriously impossible.

If I didn't think these people would also be pretty good with any other weapon, I'd actually argue for the launcher to be OP. But I won't.

So my bottom line: the weapon is not underpowered, people are merely inexperienced with it and don't use it to its full potential. buff it, and it'll be a win button.

This may be a bit of a revive at this point, but I'd like to throw in my two cents on the weapon.

I've had a love-hate relationship with the VL, but having gotten the perks for all the other weapons (melta aside), it was time to give it another shot. I recommend that ANYBODY who wants to practice with this weapon start with laraman's blessing and tactical readout. Blessing will keep you alive after battles you win and readout will tell you who's the weakest target and most importantly (caps for emphasis):

HOW MUCH DAMAGE YOU'RE DOING PER SHOT.

I can't stress the importance of this. The blast radius of each grenade diminishes rapidly, so you're going to have to train your eye where to shoot to do the most damage. You're going to be aiming at the ground you think your target will be on or near when you hit detonate. Adjacent blasts and direct hit blasts do the same damage. In fact, even now that I have the perks for the gun (the second one gives you 36 ammo to start with), I still find myself reverting to blessing/tactical so I can stay alive while being able to see how much damage my airbursts are doing to assaults. A grenade latching itself onto an enemy will do a snowball's damage, so don't bother unless they're on a higher ledge, in which case you're should be going for air bursts to minimalize the damage penalty for missing.

Racking up the multikills does take a but of luck, but believe it or not: seize ground isn't the best place to do it. Annihilate tends to see more players clumping up together for strength in numbers, and you can often take advantage of their weakened state after a grenade hits. Also remember that you don't have to kill two or more people at once for a multikill. A good one-two (shoot-blam-kill, shoot-blam-kill) combo will net you the same effect.

The VL has gone from a weapon that people scoff at to being one of the most complained about ones in the game. Some say the melta and plasma cannon take second fiddle to the OP of the VL, and why not? The blast radius is too small to be much of a danger up close like the plasma cannon, and you can still pick people off at range, unlike the melta. If anyone's having a hard time fighting a good VL player, give a sword assault with zeal a shot. A cuts or two will buy you critical time.

Sorry for the rambling format, but it's late.

    No, really....
A grenade latching onto an Assault is the difference between killing it in 2 shots or 3 shots, so it's useful in that situation.

As a slight tip to those using the vengeance launcher, you may want to remap your keys so that you detonate with one of your mouse buttons. That way, you don't have to sacrifice your mobility (or you ability to move right, at any rate) to detonate the grenade.

Hmm. Thought I replied before now.

at konfeta: Still, if you're going to aim for the assault, aim for his feet. I can tell no damage difference between latching it to his face or his leg, so if you miss, at least you can ground detonate.
at zallis: I use the arrow keys to move, \ to reload (det), rshift to sprint and space (my thumb) to jump. That way two-to-three fingers are always on the movement keys, letting me move in any direction I want while using the VL. I could put it on my mouse, but my left hand is busy with turning, aiming, zooming and shooting.

(oh, the forum didn't like my using the at symbol)

By default you have the r key as reload, and using wasd to move around. You could keep the detonate key on r, but then you'd either have to contort/shift your hand to still have three fingers on the movement keys, or put up with not being able to move to the right and detonate at the same time.

It's by no means impossible, but having it remapped to the button by your thumb if your mouse has that many buttons lets you walk to the right while detonating an explosive.

Even when I do end up using the default WSAD settings on a game (which I do if I want to give my left hand a break from mousing), I end up moving keys around so I don't have to move like a contortionist to reach buttons. But I prefer the arrow keys for a variety of reasons:

    1) I'm left handed, and it feels more natural for me to use the mouse with my left hand.
    2) It's the way a lot of older FPS's were mapped in the 90's. In fact, when the standard was moving to WSAD, some games were shipping with two default settings to cover either configuration.
    3) On a normal keyboard, the arrow keys are in perfect alignment (up isn't offset to the left) and are surrounded by a number of large keys and tactile-friendly keysets (delage up, numberpad). The WSAD side of a normal keyboard cuts off to the left, forcing me to jam everything as close to them as possible, above, underneath or to the immediate right. Put simply, the arrow keys give me more room to play with.

I still use R for reload on WSAD, but it is by no means as easy as \ on arrows. But for WSAD, my thumb's on space, pinky on lshift or a, ring finger on w or a, middle finger on w, s or d and pointer on d, r or any number of nearby keys. Non-pointer fingers handle z, x and c. I'm sure there's better ways to lay it out, but...

Yes, its perk does look like something that should be attained in exterminatus.

A game mode in which this weapon shines. No other tactical weapon smites ork mobs like this, and even over all only the plasma cannon gets better area of effect against the greenskins.
