Hi guys...
I just started the campaign part III on Hard...finshed the Valkrye shooting section, crashed to the ground and...I am back with a puny chainsword!!
Is that a bug or is it intended?
Thank you.

Intended. You will find more Thunderhammers soon and later.
And don't worry. Despite being a rare and powerful melee weapon, it's often convienently left near Ork troops. That are mostly dead. Because you killed them. Before you got allowed to pick up that thundah-hammah.
The weapon is a beast...it turns nobs into grots
It really feels sadic on Relic's part letting you enjoy it with the jump pack and suddenly give you back the chainsword...
That being said, there are times when the hammer is more of a handicap than of benefit. Specifically when you're dealing with tough baddies that you need to snipe rather than bullrush. Where the hammer shines is 1-on-1 with nobs and chaos baddies on the same platform as you. Other than that, you're left with your pistol as a poor substitute for a weapon equipped with a scope (more accurate, more upfront damage on headshots).
tl;dr don't feel bad about losing it. There are times when you really should decide on your own to leave it behind. It can always be reacquired later not far down the road.

konfeta, what if I want a meltagun to one-shot crowds of Bloodletters? Riddle me that!
Look at the bright side, kid - you get to keep all the money.
You press F 3 times.
That's not one-shotting, that's three-shotting.
