Armor and Health questions

    Armor and Health questions

I never really put much thought into the difference between armor and health in the past, I just mentally lumped them into one big pool. But after playing with some of the later weapon unlocks, I'm starting to think about it more. The storm bolter, in particular, seems to perform very differently depending whether I am shooting somebody with armor as opposed to somebody with armor broken. So I put together a few of the things I have been wondering, and I'm hoping somebody out there can answer them.

    1) How much HP does a Space Marine have relative to AP? It's hard to tell, because I know that different weapons affect them differently, but does anybody have any off-the-cuff numbers? Do the amounts vary based on class?

    2) Which weapons do more damage to HP, and which weapons do more damage to AP? It seems like bolts do more to HP, and plasma does more to AP, but that might be a misconception on my part...

    3) Are headshots only possible once armor has been broken? Do headshots do any extra armor damage before it is broken?

    4) Do any weapons damage HP even before armor is broken (ie: penetrate armor )?

    5) How does armor affect melee weapons? Do they the three types have their own proficiencies vs one or another?

    6) Does armor have any effect on stuns (kicks, ground pound, stomp, etc.)?

    Thanks much for any advice!

    1. given that different weapons do different damage to armor/health, I'd say that even if you did get such a figure it would be meaningless without also knowing the exact damage each weapon does to both.

In general, I'd say armor is a little bit tougher than health.

    2. That seems to be correct in my experience, haven't noticed any correlations beyond that.

    3. Nope, headshots always work. I think.

    4. Nope.

    5. Don't think so. I've heard the Power axe goes through armor better, but I haven't experienced that.

    6. Not that I'm aware of.

You could get general values using the tactical readout perk in a custom game. The tactical readout tac would observe while two other guys test weapons on each other.

    2) You can see which weapons do more armor or health damage in the armory. Mouse over or click on the weapon and it will show little bars. Good enough for relative values, anyway.

    3) With my experience using the tactical readout perk and the stalker bolter, headshots definitely count regardless of whether they still have armor.

While we're on the subject, what's up with this regenerating armor BS? Did GW just not want Relic to give everyone an iron halo because they're supposed to be super rare?

    Headshots don't affect armor.

I think they do hellic, as lascannon headshot will one shot everything in the game, barring an Iron Halo which increases armour. Unless, it instantly depletes health when all shields are gone and there is carry over damage... but I wouldn't know without a code monkey confirming.

Yeah, the headshot effect... still not sure I get it. I mean, is it a multiplier that just gets applied to your existing weapons damage, or is it a special-case "Kill you outright, unless you are using X,Y,Z, in which case do 90% damage" type thing? If I headshot a Dev with full armor, will it still do a lot more armor damage than if I shoot him in the chest?

    Headshot vs armour.

I think it does affect armour. If you headshot a lasdev with iron halo, it will bring him down to half health or so (if I remember correctly), whereas you'd need 2 or 3 shots just to bring down the armour if you shot him in the chest.
