    Weapons Discussion: Lascannons

Unscoped shots should have a higher amount of scatter than they do currently and disable the ability to shoot throw some objects.

It's bad enough that we have an anti-armour weapon being used as a 1-2 shot sniper weapon with ridiculous range....but one-shotting someone behind a wall or barricade or even through the corner of a wall? Outright broken and ought to be pulled. People used to rage about wall hacks in FPS games of old - this is no different.

Err, as far as I am aware, Lascannons lose damage when they do pierce. What you are experiencing is most likely lag kills.

Unscoped shots will still be made at closer ranges with higher scatter (unless it is prohibitive), then people will just learn to quickscope anyway. Regardless, I've said it before, I'll say it again - a Devastator should not be losing a firefight face to face so I am fine with it.

Niether should a devastator be found out-meleeing a dedicated melee class, either. OH WAIT.

This underscores another very important point: The effect lag has on game, particularly weapons. I've seen Plasma Bolts curve sideways in mid flight.

While I agree with you that Lascannons (in the fluff) are primarily anti-armor, they will 1-shot anything in the fluff AND in the TT I think. In Space Marine, they fill the role of heavy (like, .50 cal.) sniper rifle. The Stalker Bolter is the light sniper rifle, and is also there to allow Tacs the flexibility we demand, which means they have to have some kind of sniping option.

The only way you get 1-shotted by a Lascannon is if you're a Tac or Assault (or Dev without Iron Halo) and manage to get shot in the head. Seeing as the Lascannon is a heavy sniper rifle, that seems okay to me.

Now, regarding the damage they should do when fired from the hip, I think the core solution is just to significantly nerf the damage they do to any non-headshots. It should still be possible (though incredibly rare) to pull off a headshot with a Lascannon by shooting from the hip. Body shots should do maybe 1/2 or 2/3 the damage of a headshot. I lean more towards 1/2. Snipers should be rewarded for skill and patience, and should be penalized for using a high-power weapon like a shotgun.

    +1

Only thing that hasn't been talked about is the ability to shoot through certain objects, which I feel adds to the Lascannon's imbalance. While the shot does indeed seem to lose a bit of potency when it pierces that cover, it can still do significant damage and thus renders certain types of cover useless for the purpose of trying to regen health and armour.

Regarding the cover, my preferred solution would just be some kind of visual cue that would let you know what cover was impervious and what cover could be shot through by a LC. Like the heavy vs. light cover in CoH and DoW2. If I at least knew which cover could be shot through, I could make better decisions about where to regen.

I'll agree to that if the scope was coupled with x-ray vision showing where exactly the enemy is cowering behind a pierce-able wall.

My gripe with them is that they don't seem to lose any accuracy when you move. You can move while scoped and still reliably hit someone. Shooting through cover while annoying isn't really that game breaking. Damage is reduced (seems to take 3-4 hits) and to hit consistently you need to take signum link with you.

No-scoping is a little too easy and fire rate is a little too high IMO.

They're basically quake Railguns. They need to be less accurate when not scoped and when moving.
