    Dark Angels Drop Pod suggestions

    Hey guys!

I know, long time no type.
I'm looking for some inspiration. I've recently finished a Stormraven for my Dark Angels which included a giant pair of free-hand angel wings across the, well, wings. Now that that 8 month project is done I'm moving on to my drop pod. Unfortunately I can no longer be happy with painting it in the standard colours of green, silver and black. I don't see doors but five big canvases. I have a couple of angel designs that I've used before that I am planning to do, but thought I would open it up to suggestions for the others. My freehand is ok, but not stellar (so no faces etc).

    What are your suggestions?

Your Avatar, at least once. Possibly on all five.

Command Squad looks very well done. I've always loved Dark Angels. Are there photos of the StormRaven for public consumption?

Treat the drop pod as a mural. I would suggest something like the core of your Avatar as the "front" door, and then build it out on the pod from there. Have the wings on the "side" doors and then either continue the scene around the drop pod or paint the back of your avatar on the remaining two "rear" doors.

    (mod hat)

This thread needs relevancy in a hurry -- let's get to posting freehand suggestions and not just links to your other threads. It would be helpful if you could offer some general categories in which you're hunting for ideas.

I just hopped on Google Images for "angel fresco" and didn't find anything that excited me. Likewise "fallen angel fresco"

Given that there are 5 panels what about using 2-3 of them for text? That would cut down on the number of panels you need inspiration for.

Found this image interesting. Hood and robe it if you don't think you're up for painting the face.

Also, Here's another that seemed fitting.

I liked the idea of adding script on panels if the task of 5 illustrated panels seems daunting and too much work.

Of those two images, Bogmire, I think the second is very Dark Angels-y. Perhaps swap out the orange tones in it for greens, and that's about it.

Well for 3 of panels you do always do the 3 Sacred Standard images; http://www.gobiel.com/sonsofruss/dangels/stand.htm

Also i see your also making a 5th Company army (They are the best <3 [im currently in the slow process of making the entire company :P])

Sorry MJ. Thought the other threads would show what freehand I've previous done with my Dark Angels.

I had considered the sacred standards Lok, so great minds think alike! I think I'm leaning towards individual incarnations of the Dark Angel on four panels including one similar to the old Dreadnaught banner. A side-on mournful angel with wings furled and sweeping slightly forward. On the fifth panel I could do a large shield with the 5th Company device with script on the upper left and lower right quadrants.

Bogmire, that second image is fantastic! And very, very daunting to try and paint. I believe I may even be stupid enough to try! Thanks guys.

Other than that, I'm leaning toward a kneeling angel, but any time I try and draw one the proportions look all wrong (especially if it's done facing outward). And I have the same problem as MJ. Any google search for "kneeling angel" returns biblical angels not in robes. The search continues.

Ok, I've finally gotten on with this project. Here are ther first three door panels. I started with the kneeling angel and then realised that I couldn't then do anything on the other panels other than more free-hand features.

    What do you think?

I think that GW Dundee looks a lot bigger in photos

Looking good man, would maybe try to go for a bit more definition in your outlines so that you can pick out the edges of the cloak easier, and maybe add in some shading to the wings, but looking very good, hope to see more soon.
