    Homeworld Won't Work Properly

Whenever I try to play homeworld on my computer, it will open, but the intro videos (sponsors, developers, etc) won't show up, only the sound works. Then, when it's supposed to be the menu, and error message shows up saying that and error occured and it has created a report to send to Windows, then shuts down altogether (the game, not the computer, just to avoid a misunderstanding).

At first it said it was missing binkw32.dll, but I downloaded version 3.0.0 I think.

Have you looked at what it says in the hw2.log file found in the same folder as the homeworld2.exe file? Not the ErrorLog.txt file, many people look at that one by mistake instead.

I managed to solve the visual problem, but it keeps crashing.

That info doesn't tell us which graphics card you have. Try posting your hw2.log file here.

You may be right. I'm just so used to HW2 problems on this forum that I tend to assume that's what people mean unless they specifically say otherwise, and he didn't correct me when I first made the assumption.

anyway, if it's the first homeworld game, then what graphics mode are you running it in OGL, D3D or software?. Either way, you'll probably want to use the windows nt compatibility mode. This in itself is the main fix for getting OpenGL mode to work and if you're not already in OpenGL mode, switching to it may very well fix your crashes.

    how do I do this?

Also, I'm sorry about any confusion but this is for the first HW not the second, I should have said so. I also opened a thread which was quite pointless for HW2...

right click on hoemworld.exe or a shortcut to it go to compatibility and from there it should be quite simple to select which compatibility mode.
