Greetings all,
Some of you may remember me from when I was extremely active in game and on these boards; we had some great times, didn't we? And I met many fascinating people... some of whom I played Blood Bowl with for a while beyond these pages! And I produced a few maps, which can still be downloaded below. Technology has moved on though, and not all of it is kind to the older generation, so some of you may find they crash; just remove the .scar files from the install and you'll be ok. A pity, as Incanite did some fine work on making them more than just a map... And I purchased Dawn Of War 2 as well, but alas my interest in that game was largely minimal. It just didn't have the strategic depth of the first, with the fixed bases and reliance on Starcraft style clicking and specials management. Even the Ork focused expansion couldn't draw me back in. But anyway! That's not why I'm back on these boards so many years down the line.
No, I never regretted, or forgot the fun I had with DoW to Dark Crusade; and even non-gamers found the replays fascinating to watch! I remember when I first started dating again, and the first time the lady came to my flat and wanted to see how I spent my social time, and despite never seeing a gaming rig at all before (she alas came from a very restricted background) we sat for two hours watching Orks wailing on puny oomies... I've a lot of spare time again now, so I found myself this week booting it up again to see if I could recapture some of that magic. Alas the online component seems largely dead now, with not a game in the lobby to be seen; but the message from Tranj about a bug fix that never came in the end still there!
So I sat and watched replays again. And such memories came flooding back... And I thought, maybe there is still someone out there who is as nostalgic as I am. And with ever quicker net connection now, a 29mb file isn't such a horror to download these days! Thus here they are, all my surviving replays;

They are entirely Ork centred, and in the main consist of team games. But inside you'll find extremely lucky escapes from last-building-under-fire death which become total victory ("Close Escape" & "Godly Escape") grumpy Titler in a game which goes from 3v3 to 2v1 with both sides having a single building left but armies in the field, and then playing cat and mouse across the map ("Jeebus! Woo!") games where my side disconnects and the other gets over confident, sits back or goes AFK and I beat them all (quite a few of those), and best of all... huge grinding battles where I manage to get a full function economy going and support an enormous WAAAGH! which comes down to flanking maneouvers, forward bases and lines of support, and all the extra tricks which old age can still use even as the body and the reaction times slow down... I don't win all of them, especially the 1v1 auto matches I still have, there at the bottom of the list; I saved them to learn from the experience, but who knows, someone may enjoy those too, or even recognise themselves in one!
So anyway. There they are, my surviving records of my time with DoW. Barring a radical overhaul in any potential DoW 3, I suspect my active time with this series is long over. And I hope they raise a few last smiles to your faces looking back on the game too.
