The main reason to take the BUK is in low level games it will scare the other team well away from it and its for sniping air recon. Once you start to face more skilled players, yea, its pretty much useless as it is so expensive and therefore can be swarmed by cheap helis or shelled if they even want to bother removing it. The Tung can be your all in one AA but doing so is rather risky because of its cost, non existent armour, and missiles that just love to, well, miss. Personally I'd rather run fully vetted OSAs for long range AA supported by STROP 2s, though with the Shilka being buffed with the DLC patch I might have to try using them instead of the STROP.

Chap is rather cheap and can still limit Pact rotary wings to a great degree while being covered by Rolands, Flackpanzers, and/or auto cannons of some form for the same price as a BUK. And it is NATO's only form of long range AA missile for sniping recon, something which shouldn't be discounted.

And I don't like the Kiowa. Yea, four hellfires on a exceptional optics helo is nice, but it costs a ton and the Gazelle is both faster and cheaper so you can actually scout better with it.

Something I forgot to mention is to also get an armoured CV. Avoid the helicopters and the jeeps, get the M577, Sulton, or VAB for NATO and the BRDM CV for Pact. Unarmoured CVs tend to die when a strong wind or a single mortar shell blows in their general direction.

So how many command vehicles do you need in a game? I noticed that you can only get two each of the M577 and M577G; tried a 2v2 AI with a friend and there was like a dozen territories on the map. I take it capturing most/all of the territory simply doesn't happen?

I personally only ever buy one M577 to replace the starting jeep (remove it with the right click). Games don't last long enough to make back the extra 220 points you spent on another CV to start with, even when they are parked on the highest income sectors. Having multiple CVs is mostly for safety, as losing your last CV results in losing, and for taking extra reinforcement sectors closer to the action.

CnC units are map dependent and situational. You need one CnC unit at all times. On some maps, you may want to move your one unit from your starting point to another, more lucrative point. On others, you may have two units. It also depends on how aggressive your enemy is. Sometimes, you may feel you'll need the income advantage because the game will last long or the enemy is pushing hard but does only has one sector captured. Use your best judgement. However, it's reasonable to have two CnC units in your deck as well as two kinds of logistical support. I tend to have the KOLOS and Mi-26 as Pact and the Jupiter and Puma as NATO for supply and the BRDM and BRM or the M577G and VAB PC for CnC.

I suppose it's also important to note that the you build a deck to suit your own play style. The wonderful thing about this game is that different combinations of units do different things when mixed together and because of this you'll never be forced to play one way. The Gazelle v. Kiowa debate is a perfect example of how two people, doing a similar task, approach it differently and are accommodated by the game's unit diversity.

Basically, play the game. At the end of each game, think to yourself "Man, I really wish I had a unit that did X" and then go unlock that kind of unit. Eventually, you'll have a unique deck that suits you.

What determines income on sectors anyway?

The large numbers on the sector. The larger the number, the higher the income. Some sectors have arrows coming from off the map. Those are where new units will come from. If you do not have a CnC vehicle on one of those sectors, you cannot call in new units. Keep in mind that units will tend to take the shortest route from off-map to where you called them in. So, sometimes, this leads them through enemy territory. Keep an eye on them if your front is fluid. Also keep in mind that the enemy may deploy infantry to cover the off-map reinforcement routes to destroy your units as they come in. You either have to clear them out of there or tell your units to come in to a different sector.

I normally have 3 Command units actually. One at the start point, and two at the highest point grabbers I can see. Rush to them at the start of the game, with helicoptors carrying infantry to gain a foothold in the woods or some buildings, and AA helicoptors to nuke the recon before anyone realises what I'm up to. If I'm lucky, by the time the enemy is grouping his men together for an assault on my entrenched infantry, my own tanks will be rolling up the roads on the flanks as support.
"Celtic fans right now sit in silence and watch, and hope that the damage doesn't get any worse from this Graham Carey free kick. Away by Wilson. Teale. Still options waiting in the middle for St. Mirren...OH, AND THEY HAVE ANOTHER ONE! It's stunning! It's absolutely stunning at Hampden park! And it's Steven Thompson, who scores his thirteenth goal of the season, and that might just be the goal that takes St. Mirren into the league cup final!" - 27/01/2013

Well CoH isn't full of exploiters. It has some, yes, but in automatch I'd say it couldn't be more than one in six. No need for the tone.
lol @ the irony in this, considering i was on of the top CoH ladder players and the developer of the insanely overpowered vet VTS1 rush in wargame. iirc they still haven't fixed magic vet stabilizers, so it's still horrendously broken.

Seriously, just get the max amount of vet 2 VTS1s, 2 L2A4s, some AA and scouts and just roll over everything in an unstoppable wave of death. It's fun.

My general rule of thumb is to start with only the beginning cmd unit in 1v1s, but leave enough points to bring a 2nd in once I complete my initial recon. You could start with 2 in a team game on larger maps, but I wouldn't start with 3. It's just way too many points tied up in units that will usually take upwards of 12 minutes to pay for themselves, during which a more aggressive opponent can roll over you.

So, it's been a while Wargamers. We have exciting news though. Wargame has an expansion coming out in March 2012 called "AirLand Battle." Notable additions: four new nations, a new urban combat interface, a dynamic co-op campaign, a new deck system, and....airplanes.

The A-10, F-15, F-16, and Su-25 have all been confirmed. The unit total is set to go up to above 700.

Expect USMC, Royal Marines, etc. The various marine organizations have been all but confirmed and historically they where assigned to play a huge part in a Warsaw pact invasion of the Scandinavian nations for both sides.

Now that you've had five months to play it, perhaps you could share your thoughts?

Adding Finland as a playable nation would have sold this game and expansion for me.
