Although it's possible, I find it highly unlikely they would completely change the theater for an expansion pack (otherwise they would have done it for COH1). I am hoping they expand on the Eastern Front a bit by adding minor factions like the Finns, Hungarians, Italians and Romanians. Also, it sounds like for the campaign they plan to go from 1941 to 1945. I am not sure if that carries over into multi-player, but something they could do is add a drop down menu for time periods and each expansion or DLC could add new units for different time periods - kind of like the modern day equivalent to tech levels.

I also hope that terrain is factored into projectile trajectory. It would be nice if cannons no longer shot through hills and such.

From the pictures it looks like the SU-76M is properly scaled, so they seem to have learned that lesson.

True, but you know Relic, they are up for anything! Personally I'd like to see them mixing it all together, regarding the fact of the period. And yes, they do have seem to learned how to scale stuff.

Hopefully I am wrong. It would be great to see a brand new engine with Americans, British, Germans and Soviets. Then the modding community would only have to add missing pieces instead of entire factions. It'd be nice to see official minor factions for once, they are often overshadowed by the bigger ones even though they had just as important a role.

So we're going from COH which was set on the Western Front and has a single Eastern Front mod...to COH2 which is set on the Eastern Front and will have to be modded for Western Front goodness.

    LOL

Hopefully we might get to see some Panzer III's, proper early Panzer IV's and SdKfz 251 halftracks, and maybe some SdKfz 231 Heavy Armoured Cars for Axis

What would be really wild is if your troops were dressed and vehicles cammo'ed based on map conditions...white washed vehicles and infantry with great coats, parkahs and quilted jackets for snowy maps and so on.

    Ah, one can but dream...

Looks nice, but not new-engine-nice I think. Excited for more realism features. Don't repeat those mistake from the previous games please, DoW2 and especially Retribution
One step closer to the end of the decadent Eldar race.

So with it being set in the eastern front, my ww2 history is alittle rusty but if both sides are having 2 armies, before x-pack.
Allies will be US - Russians Axis Japanese with germans right?

But saying that I think brits were in china (before or after?) defo the aussies were involved in the war yet you dont hear shit about them during history in school.
Possible aussies/new zealand units? That'd be cool. Tired how the US always hogs the limelight.

Most likely we will have two armies. A new Wehrmacht versus Russians. And expansion could add in a different soviet army vs a different type of wehrmacht army. But rather depends on how things work out.

    @Celestial:
Yes. I'll buy you the plane ticket tomorrow so you can come on over down here .

Also I didn't say: I always wanted russians in my CoH. THIS HAS RUSSIANS. THINK ABOUT THAT. LET IT SINK IN.

    RUSSIANS.

e: It'll be interesting to see how they shake up the axis. Are they going to stick close to the CoH1 Wehrmacht/PE or stray away from it? I guess we'll have to see.

Yay, totally awesome I'll start packing my stuff. This is going to be epic:

    - 2013 release
    - Main campaign is Eastern front, playing as Russians
    - Lots of snow. Snow slows down troops and tanks, but can also form cover.
    - Units can vault over cover such as low walls.
I always wanted Infantry to jump over walls and light cover, as well as them not needing the door to enter a (damaged) building! And the Graphics indeed seem to be improved notably, which of course is a warm welcome. Let's hope the physics and animations are even smoother as well. I just hope that they don't float both armies with units. CoH always was awesome for the fact the armies had a quite "limited" selection of units, but I bet Relic won't make that mistake.

Also, did you never try our newest EF releases? ^^

Where the hell are the graphics people talking about? O_o All I see in this thread is the PC Gamer announcement with concept art...?

Also: effing finally! Good to have one's cynicism tempered once in a while.

EDIT Ah, I see. Scans removed.

If Relic intends to replicate some of the most critical battles fought on the Eastern Front, particularly Kursk, then the Panzerjäger Tiger (P) and Ilyushin Il-2 should be included...amongst other units

  17. #167
I already formulated me a strat for the Russian army. None stop mass infantry even if there tanks on the field. Just endless sea of the red army.
No qaurter back men, only forward or we will hold this line forever!!!

Take a look at the snow effects, take a look at the close up on infantry, etc...

Those are proper DX10 support on the Engine if not DX11...

I dislike the Eastern Front Theater of war, not sure why. Maybe its the issue of two equally brutal super powers committing countless war crimes against each other in snow (I have no knowledge of snow).

I would have preferred North Africa

As great a news as this potentially is, I still can't bring myself to give any fucks about something during WW2.

There are times I wish I didn't hate the setting quite so much, though.

It's an understandable reaction, World War 2 for the most part is a story where we already know the ending; Allies and Soviets win, Germany Loses and spends the next few years in limbo. There isn't much creative freedom in terms of story telling in the setting.

Relic does have a creative team of writers, its a shame that the setting wont allow them to truly show that. I do understand that their are great stories to be told on the Eastern Front, but as a Anglo-Australian, who's relatives fought on the Allies then against communism; I find little to no connection to be had with Soviet Russia.

I'am also a bit annoyed. As a grandson of peoples who were not able to go back in their homeland after WWII, it is difficult to connect with USSR. I'm curious about how Relic will handle the "dirties parts" in the storytelling.

I don't get it. I mean you could say the same thing about not being able to connect with the Germans, yet they are still a playable (and popular) faction in CoH1.

You're referring to the mass deportations, pogroms, atrocities and scorched earth policies inflicted on much of Eastern Europe by both sides, right? Simple, Relic will more than likely avoid all that. The game after all will focus on very specific sectors of important battles so the "bigger picture" is not as relevant to gameplay I'd imagine.

  25. #175
given that they ignored all that in the first game, they will probably ignore it here too.

would be an interesting SP campaign to play as germans for first half (barbarossa) and russians for the counterattack

In a state of perpetual confusion.
Since the news of CoH2 has leaked early, and we have a new thread about it, I'm closing this one and we can have the discussions in the other thread.
