Looks pretty awesome but it's not really like excessively patriotic or anything, it's pretty appropriate for the time period, especially if he's hanging around the Fathers. We may just have different tolerances though.

I didn't take notice of any "patriotism" in the trailer. He even says he kills people on both sides of the conflict.

Most exciting bit for me was running through the house. Hell yea, interiors!

Not sure if i saw one blue coat die in all of that new trailer
If there’s one thing I know you can’t control evil. You can lock it up you can burn it and bury it and pray that it dies but it never will it just rests awhile. You can lock your doors and pray at night but the evils out there waiting and maybe just maybe its closer than you think.

I think some got shot but Connor didn't kill any.

  5. #155
That was actually kinda funny. He's going all "I'm gonna kill the enemy regardless of the side he's on!", all the while killing redcoats exclusively and then the part about those that are *cue American flag* "truly free". I literally yelled "'Murrica! F- YEAH!" at that point.

I don't really have a big problem with it, seeing as it will probably be more even in-game.

Well its not like he's going to alternate between kills every time he kills someone. The previous AC games had you kill groups of a particular faction at a time.

Somebody should tell this native american that the "freedom fighters" are going to put their people in reservations, well, the ones that survive at least.

I know I'm incredibly late to the party, only just seeing the pre-alpha footage, and I'm sorry to revive the thread by flogging what is probably one of my dead horses by now...

But eugh. LoneWolf picks up on it perfectly, even if he comes up with a different reaction: Assassin blabs on about equal-opportunities killing, but do we see anyone but British soldiers hitting the dirt? Of sodding course not. To me this is a nauseating angle to go with for marketing.

That said, the game looks very impressive. Running through interiors looks sweet.

I guess I'm the only one who watched AC1's trailers. You ended up killing more than the Christians shown.

I know, we've been over that. *points to previous pages of discussion*

I'm not saying it won't be different in the game. My point is that marketing is supposed to make me want to play the game, and this is turning me right off it. I'm pretty sure I've stressed that it's a personal thing every time I've waded in- I just wish it wasn't all so, "AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!!!" It's a bit pathetic. I'm not asking we go all the way to the other end of the spectrum, but a little less tedious jingoism would be nice.

(In hindsight, the first game's marketing leaves a lot to be desired as well, but I wasn't as exposed to that. Still, it seems with that one that they were just being over-sensitive to a potential media backlash. I can see it now: "Ubisoft's newest game, a stealthy action adventure, hinges around your character killing Muslims!" Cue outcry.)

Now that you mention it I would have thought the backlash over killing white christian men as a Muslim in the US would have been much higher than it was. As it stands I don't think anyone actually cared.

    New trailer

After the 2:30 mark. Connor's not only going after redcoats after all.

I never got into the series at all, but that trailer makes me want to get AC3. Looks like a lot of fun.

Damn that looks good. Also, naval battles? Alright I'm sold, especially as he's offing colonials as well in that one.

So what I am seeing is a more stabby Red Dead Redemption crossed with Last of the Mohicans.

    Consider me sold.

As for the whole patriotism thing, being a Brit I personally don't mind siding with the yanks and killing some of my fellow countrymen, its only a game after all.

But still, being able to fight both sides is much more fun, hopefully we'll see some 3-way skirmishes as well

EDIT: Just saw that new trailer... forget skirmishes, we're gonna see entire battles.

Wow, October is so bloody far away as well

You know the naval combat looks good enough to be its own full featured game and yet this is only part of the whole parckage. Really, compare that trailer with the newest gameplay and try and put it together in your head that these are both parts of the same game.

EDIT: Now with some killer artwork

So far I have been disappointed with the game, and it is definitely the most unpolished Ubisoft game I've played in quite a while. On top of the horrible setting, you've got bland and wooden delivery of the dialogue, stereotypical depiction of the British, Native American voice actors a that are either 'me red man, you white man, we enemy' or sound like they're from metro California.

And not to mention the bugs. You've got the characters visibly floating above viewpoints, patrols suddenly veering off one street, through a house and on to the next street, audio issues, especially with lip synching. Extremely low resolution textures for objects in the distance, what I've been seeing have been little more than polygons that suddenly snap into focus when in the previous games you had entire detailed cities visible from any rooftop. No to mention framerate issues.

Oh, and let's not forget the fucking terrible lock picking minigame. Instead of taking a leaf from Bethseda's book on lockpicking, instead you have to rotate and hold two different tools and then rapidly press another button that threatens to make you lose your grip on holding the tools in the pinpoint position. But that's only if the game even enables the detection notices when you need to hold the buttons. Half the time one of the tools will not detect the position it needs to be in to initiate the lockpick, forcing you to try all over again. Or you'll be in the middle of the lockpick and the tools will either pop off because you've lost your grip having to pound the controller to get the damn lock to move, or they will simply stop detecting your tools at all. Hell, sometimes you can even get to the end of a lockpick, and it'll either not detect that you've reached the end, or it'll reset itself, or it'll say you opened the damn thing and then nothing happens, to which it then resets itself a minute later.

I think I could handle the other visible flaws in the game if it weren't for the bullshit lockpicking bugs. There's a nice twist when you finally get around to controlling Connor (expect to piss away three hours of your life before the game even truly begins), but other than that, so far the game has been a disappointment and again is one of the most unpolished Ubisoft games (let alone a Triple-A title) that I've ever played.
    Those Halcyon Days...

Is lockpicking the only minigame? Why are there minigames now? That's dumb. Disappointing to hear that the bug reports are true too, my copy isn't coming in until this week.

There are tons of minigames (several board games, the lockpicking, one I've only seen in a single mission that was annoying involving breaking up a fight)

I agree with Stingra on the lack of polish, though. I've never seen such an unpolished Ubi game (it's playable but expect some weirdness. Some of it is mitigated by hdd install but not all.) He does need to know they made sure to get native actors for as many of those parts they could, though. As for the depiction of the Brits, that relaxes a while in and you'll find the Americans aren't portrayed in a completely positive light either.

Naval combat is the best part. Ubi should've made a pirate assassin game.
Also, thankfully you can avoid a lot of the lockpicking by liberating districts (the reward usually includes a key for all chests in that district.) I don't think the lockpick would be as bad if it wasn't buggy as wlell.

EDIT: \/ That's so ridiculous you can't help but laugh at it, really.

I'm taking a wait-and-see approach to this one. I think i would like the setting, but the first game put me off. Too much grinding and the story wasn't as amazing as i thought it would be.

AC1 was widely regarded as more of a tech demo than a game. Give AC2 a shot, seriously. It's such an amazing improvement in every way.

I actually have the second one for the xbox, just haven't got around to playing it. Does it take 5-10 mins to get into your saved game? I wasn't impressed with that feature at all.

I disagree, I still rank Assassin's Creed 1 as one of the better games of this console generation. It certainly has the best story and characters. All I felt AC2 did was polish the gameplay.

I've played a fair bit and am in sequence 7 right now and, as Stingra said, there are a lot of silly bugs which can get annoying but most aren't too bad except one I have where the camera will lock in a stupid position and i won't be able to move it at all, usually after looting a corpse but occansionally after cutscenes. While I can unstick it normally by running or zooming in, occasionally that doesn't work. Ever tried to sneak through a British fort with the camera solidly fixed and centred looking at your ankles? Its not easy. In fact, it was impossible. The lockpicking thing is also daft and Connor's dialogue becomes extremely monotone as the game progresses. Also, guards have a tendency to respawn pretty much instantly in certain locations. At one point I assassinated a guard while trying to infiltrate a camp. I climbed a tree next to his body and by the time i was halfway up the tree, another guard had spawned in his place. This respawn thing also means you can get locked in a neverending battle in town if you end up between two or three guard spawns, like I did. I killed so many guards in that battle it was starting to affect the framerate, and still they kept coming.

However, apart from these bugs I'm really enjoying the game. Naval combat surprisingly excellent, hunting is fun and combat is more fluid, allowing things like countering 2 enemies at once, diving through open houses to lose pursuers and actually being able to use rifles, unlike in AC: Revelations. The frontier is nice and fun to explore and building up your homestead is cool as well.

So yeah, the bugs are numerous and annoying but are generally easily dealt with and I'm quite liking the game.
'We exist together now, two corpses, in one grave.'
'And then the prophet spake saying, 'Frak this, for my faith is a shield proof against your blandishments!'

AC2 and Brotherhood were pretty fricken legit man. I didn't like Revelations as much but Ezio Auditore and the character cast is pretty good in those ones. The cities are awsome too.

They now need to make another Pirates! game with this as the base. This is so much fun I don't ever want to go back to shore.

    Not going to spoil anything

So the ending. We are either going to get a new brotherhood, revelations type of game or we may have just had another mass effect without the options this time. So either way if you were hoping for a conclusion to everything think again

The series IS continuing, but this is supposed to be the last Desmond plot game.

The ending left plot hooks for sequels that's all. They weren't going to have the series end with Desmond after all.

I've decided that this game's true title is Grand Theft Red Dead Assassin.

Since it has more in common with those games than the rest of it's franchise.
