the steam servers are too busy to handle your request

I've been enjoying a resurgence in my Dawn of War II Retribution interest recently, until last night that is when I tried to run the game and got a black screen. Ie I clicked to play the game in steam and launched it, then the screen went black, no THQ logo, nothing. Just my mouse cursor. The only way I could get out of this (alt + tab doesn't work) was to cntl + alt + del, close down the program where I was confronted with the message in Steam:

the steam servers are too busy to handle your request for Warhammer 40,000 Dawn Of War II Retribution (Error Code 41).
I can't seem to find anything that relates specifically to an error code 41, so I'm at a loss as what to do. I've started a Steam support ticket as this looks like a Steam issue, but I was wondering if any other forumites have had a similar problem? It's been going on for 2 nights in a row now grr!

In a state of perpetual confusion.
Have you tried verifying your game cache files? That's the first thing to try with any Steam game.

In addition to GeoffS suggestion, try Defragmenting the Cache Files also.

Thanks chaps, actually that was the first things I did but no dice. Also checked my system for malware and viruses but nothing. Very puzzling.

Have you tried restarting Steam and/or your PC? Are you using the beta Steam Client? Can you try changing your download region?

Was going to suggest that myself. Try changing Steam region and run with antivirus disabled.

Actually changing my download region worked. I can now play the game!

PS if anyone else has the same problem I only had to change it from London, England to Manchester. Hey presto!
