Choppy Lan Performance

    Choppy Lan Performance

    Hi!

I've been looking all over the internet for a fix for this issue and I cannot seem to find it. Here's the deal:

When playing over LAN or Direct-Connect, the game stutters and lags for all players unless the host sets the gamespeed to low or medium. I've tried setting up a local lan with my laptop (which handles the game perfectly in single player at maximum settings) and my 2012 monster desktop. Hardware is clearly not the issue.

Me and my friends really love this "old gem" and would love to get it working at the fluid and fast performance we get in single player. Is there a solution? A patch perhaps? We have tried both "classic" LAN and Hamachi (Virtual LAN) and we always face the same lag and stutter.

    Thanks in advance!

Are you getting the expected pings between machines? On a LAN you should be able to ping any machine from any other machine and get <5ms ping.

Can you try disabling any security software (firewalls etc) whilst playing a LAN to try and narrow down if one of those is causing issues. Its probably sensible to disconnect from the internet while you do that - so you will have your 2 machines networked to each other but no link off to the wider internet.

I will take a closer look at your suggestions once I have time and access to both my computers. However, regarding the security-software I'm fairly sure I've tried shutting down everything from AV guards to Windows Firewall.

I have heard people mention the game-speed problem before, and they seemed to take it for granted, offering their own solutions in line with "I just set game speed back down to medium and it's all cool". Can someone confirm that they have played Dawn of War without any lag or stuttering over LAN at the fastest game speed setting? This would clear up a few things and give me motivation to actually figure this one out on my own.

What I can confirm as of now is that I've never encountered a similar performance issue in any other game while playing over either LAN or Hamachi.

I can confirm this same issue over LAN/direct IP. It is very annoying, indeed. Setting the game speed to medium isn't really a good fix for me, either. Anybody have a solution?

Edit: I just tried with GameRanger and that doesn't fix it.

Can somebody confirm that it has worked at some point, at least? Or maybe it has never actually worked. Relic should fix this!
