Dark days a-coming. And Relic is one of the few RTS devs that I like.

Well, hopeful the talent will spread around the industry and help create even more great games.

Really horrible news, Relic has always been one of my favourite devlopers and creators of some of my favourtie franchises. I wish all the best to those who have been affected.

Best of luck to everyone who lost their jobs, that's a very sad day indeed :/

This really is awful news. That said, I have no doubt everyone that was laid off will find something soon - you're all an incredibly talented and dedicated bunch, and has been seen already, other studios are looking for people like you. Best of luck to everyone!

Damn, Relic is my favorite developer, why the hell did it come to that?

Again, best of luck to all of you who got axed. I'm sure you'll find new, satisfying and lucrative jobs, but I'm afraid the unique mixture of talent and skill that you formed as a team might be lost to the gaming industry forever.

Normally when things like this happen to game developing companies, I don't useually take much notice. However, Relic's Warhammer 40K games are beyond awesome! Many companies have tried to make W40K games in the past but they useually fail to delivery a gret game, Chaos Gate made by Random Games is the only exception, in my oppinion.

I've never actually played any of Relic's other games, but going by the quality from the games that I have played of theirs, I would imagine they are just as good.

I'm really unhappy about this news.

  7. #107
I suspect with so many key relic staff gone, then relic would not be relic even if bought. Good luck team, try and release that DOW2 shooter that is on xbox onto pc!

If by that DoW shooter you mean Kill Team, that was developed by a THQ studio in the UK which was shut down just after releasing the game and not Relic though they used some of Relic's assets to make it.

I really dont know what to say...im so sorry, so sorry that the studio that delivered us the games we liked the most is getting slowly killed is really horrific news...more then the ME3 ending...
Sorry to hear about this and GL to everyone who got fired

The ME3 ending makes sense, if you've played the previous games. Or read some of the Novels.

Just throwing it out there. If you're still unsure, I can just say wait and see at PAX.

I saw a rumor that bC (balance Dev) is still at Relic but on a different project now. That leaves any balance patches they might have been working on in limbo for the indefinite future. Even if bC is still on DoW2, the Dev team working on it could likely be counted with one hand. This is it, folks.

Friday, 30th March (when I believe all the Relic folks finished). Ironically, approximately a year after retribution's release. Somebody at THQ thought carefully about that.

This may sound crazy, but as it seems game will be left without... let's face it... any support.
Can there be any hope that community will put their hands on balance... like unofficial patches,
    maybe coming like user modifications?
Game by itself is still far from dead, Retribution seemed to me like a way to many-many new
content and expansions. Engine is still great, its just need some tinkering, and nearly all
most imbalanced issues are well known. It won't be too hard to fix it, nope?

The game as "dead" means that it is no longer supported. It will still be played for awhile, no doubt. However, it's now just a dying ember without any hope of being re-stoked.

There's still plenty of games out there that are played many, many years after support was dropped. I'll still play DoW2 from time to time but, with nothing to revitalize it, it will get stale and people will move on. It's just the nature of the beast.

No, really, I heard THQ wasn't doing well but.... This, this is just... I'm at a loss for words, Homeworld 1 being a game I played since my youth. In memorandum I'm probably gonna play HW2 on Gameranger or something, this is bad. I was also looking forward towards Dark Millennium, which makes me sad that now the company seems to have given up on making money :/ It really is a disgrace when I compare this to laughable titles like SWTOR and such. As someone who was once going down the path to Game Design, my condolences to those who were axed without cause, it is a sad day indeed for Relic.

I personally would like to participate in any memorandum events, be it in DoW 2 or HW2. Message me on here if any of yas are interested. Long live the idea of smart games for smart people

Do note that coarse language is acceptable here if it's not every other word and it's justifiable. This is a case that I want to curse too. Seriously. Fucking sadface, because Dawn of War is one of my favourite series, and Relic has been such a great developer. I think I'll be going back to COH soon, and properly learn it. I never got good at it in the way that I did with DOW2 and I kinda regret skimming over it at the time.

Hopefully DoW3 will come eventually. There's no knowing for sure. It's not really about how well Relic does per se. If THQ goes into ruin Relic is basically done for. For now there's no reason to think the unannounced DoW3 and CoH2 are stopping production.

Pulse.r, you've helped me out a bunch of times with tech support stuff and let me get my game on. Thanks again for all your efforts.

For the rest of the Relic guys, Task3r, Egon, et al, you've always shown good support to the DoW community. It doesn't matter that we've not heard from you guys for a while, the fact that you took to effort to even let us know that you were listening was humble enough. Thank you for all your efforts.

I've been a Relic loyalist since the original Homeworld, right through to DoWII:Ret. I have an ace PC gaming rig, Xbox360, PS3 and tons of the latest and greatest games for all three... but DoWII is what i've been playing most these past 3 years. That's a statement!

I wish you guys all the best!

I feel absolutely gutted by all this.

Just want to add my best wishes to those recently laid off from Relic.

This was the worst news, Relic deserve so much better for the quality and support they provide for their great games.

DoW2 has been my favourite game ever since the beta, I accepted it proabably wasn't getting any more expansions but Relic suddenly losing so many people is a shock.

Long live DoW2 in the community, let's make THQ aware releasing DoW3 would be a very good idea.

Depends on what would it be as a game.
I'm affraid that THQ may go for most unpleasant decisions for DoW3,
considering that huge part of devs have been laid off...

I can't believe Relic, out of all the studios under THQ, saw layoffs. Why even lay them off at all? just merge em back into the studio if your pulling people off of DMO.

Guess Homeworld is truly dead now, acquiring the license back was pointless. At this point I'm hoping THQ just goes under(and hope the people at corporate never see a job in the industry again) since they can't get their act together and fund useless shit(udraw? lol).

Kinda hope Relic just gets picked up by EA where atleast they'll get proper funding and support.

    /facepalm

When will people get it through their little skulls that THQ own Relic. There is 0% chance of them being "picked up by EA" or anything like that. It's not like this hasn't been specifically stated several times in this thread. That said, I'm really sorry to hear about the layoffs. Most of my friends at Relic got caught up in this purge, damn sorry to see them go.

@Pulse, you were awesome, thanks for all your efforts supporting the community. I may be in Vancouver over the weekend getting (very) drunk with Blake and Biffy if you fancy drowning your sorrows on Saturday?

Homeworld was great, yes, but I don't see real problem here, since we have nearly perfect replacement for this game.

    Gorb
We haven't seen any of new content for DoW2 (guess there won't be any no more) and heard nothing but rumors about DoW3.
My point - THQ is desperate now, and can launch some cheapshit product unfairly named DoW3 even in f2p model just to
gain atleast some money. When company suffers troubles like this, there is very small chance of releasing qualitative product.

I don't pretend to understand the finer points of game design, but if you're going to make a sequel to a game, and you lay-off a whole bunch of people who were integral to said game, the outlook doesn't look too good for the sequel.

I think that that's what people are getting at re: a possible DoW3.

Can someone copy and paste the IG HWT code from like 3 patches ago so i can at least have a non broken unit to enjoy the game? pretty please?

This news is trully crappy indeed, as i actually followed relic as a dev as much as i followed my other love, anything with GDI and NOD in it. I hope to see relic awesomeness once more in the future....

  49. #149
So relic getting their own forums? When the eta on that, i want to go over and complain like a big fat baby who lost his lolli pop to ants.

  50. #150
Damn, I really want to keep playing cause I love DoW2 but it's really hard to find a reason to, since the game is now stuck in a half-finished state with bugs and balance issues bC didn't have a chance to address.

IMO the last thing they should to is roll the game back to like 3.15 or 3.16 and just abandon it. Lol, I know ppl will jump on me for suggesting that version, but that era was when the game was most fun for me, things were really competitive, and I loved playing ranked. Good times...
