I got past that, made a character, but couldn't actually play it.
Error 317002
Yea i can get to the character selection screen and then get that same error T.T
Since Ive been loged into D3 since 4am this morning. I do not dare log off incase I lose my spot, so when I need to do something I just tab out. glorious.
Anyway about to kill the act3 boss. lvl 31. still on normal. act4 to go then try out nightmare!
I'm kind of mad, because Diablo 3 stole all my friends. Now I have no one to play Dota with, and scrubs from pubs are awful. Fuck you Blizzard!
Game now says that all servers should be back up by 1:30PST (so in an hour) [at least lets hope they are : / ]
Oh, that reminds me, I feel sorry for LoL's Dominion. High elo already had que times between 20 and 200 minutes, now I reckong games are impossible to find.
I did and now I'm stuck with error 37 at the beginning again. -.- Retrieving hero list was the furthest I had gone. I doubt i will be able to play this game today. All these errors.Originally Posted by malachi

I will use Google before I ask dumb questions!
Well, I did get in so there IS chance. Whether you want to keep trying is your choice, this is a massive fuck up on Blizzards part anyway, there's no denying that.
I'd rather blame all the useless bastards who flooded the server and are denying me the game.
Whats even more annoying, is that ALL of battle.net seems to be down... so i cant even play starcraft...
maybe just the us side? im ingame on d3 right now kicking ass in act4.
Id try getting on again. I was just able to get back into my game on NA.

I'd been playing for about five and a half hours, went to get something to eat and now that I've come back and finally managed to log back in it's not showing ANYTHING I'd done earlier. All achievements are gone, my banner rest to something random and my character has vanished.
I would have wanted to make more characters to try out all the classes anyway so it's not a big deal playing a new one for a bit, I just hope my old character comes back though as she was just getting really fun to play. I wonder if it actually made my first character on the NA server or something strange like that, i'll have to check when that comes back up.
Cake can change the nature of a man!
Hehe, now It authenticates my login in data, but get stuck during the "loading heroes" bit.
My game was set for NA servers by default, even though I'm in Europe.
So much for using a server to store all the info so it won't get hacked and abused, right Blizzard?
Also, this seems to be ridiculously true.

Just played for about thirty minutes. Logged in fine on my second attempt. Message starting popping up about the server going down. I jumped out when it was at the 3 minute mark because I just didn't want to be on when it actually went down. My friends and I were going to try and get in together tonight, guess we'll see what the deal is soon enough.
Edit: Servers down until at least 6:30EST. This time they're actually down as well, not just buggy and giving people connection errors.

@TWG - there's pretty much always a compromise between ease of use and security I'm afraid, any time there isn't is just an unexpected luxury. Having said that, developers are not exactly turning to perma-connection as a 'last resort' by any means, it seems that they want to do it for their own reasons and then tack on some 'cloud features' or some other nonsense to try to justify it to the consumers, trying to persuade them it's actually in their interests (when really it's in theirs). It could be made in such a way as to be in our interests, but almost no-one has managed it yet. I can't think of any game of the top of my head where the benefits of perma-connection have never outweighed the negatives.
I was considering getting this game, and was at one point quite excited for it (not played any diablo but loved Torchlight so wanted to try the read deal out), but.....wow, seems to be a lot of bad experiences with technical issues. Some people make a lot of apologies for technical issues, but me, frankly I get why they happen (I'm a programmer myself), I just find it reeeeeally frustrating to deal with and don't like shelling out full price for that kind of experience. Perma-connection stuff just compounds the technical issues by cranking up the potential consequences (eg choppy game, no sound or funny aspect ratio is one thing, but no game at all due to no connection/server downtime is quite another). It's a shame, because it sounds like those who can play it are having a great time, and Blizzard are one of the developers skilled enough that you'd think they'd nail this. But apparently not.

I just realized this:
CD Projekt RED: Selling console games at PC game price (Witcher 2 for Xbox), no DRM policy.
Blizzard: Selling PC games at console game price, always-online DRM for singleplayer games.
I wonder which company's games I'm going to prioritze, hmm...
[edit:]Going to sleep, but right now there shouldn't be much rouble getting in game, I relogged like 3 times, worked in about 5th attempt each time.

Btw, in case anyone wasn't aware of this or figured this out, your characters / heroes are not stored locally.
In Diablo II I had no problem having to click a couple of extra times to share an adventure with my friends. The process itself wasn't never really broken, but Blizz had to go and "fix" things, resulting in the frustrating experience players are going through now.
Yeah we know Blizzard doesn't like the idea of piracy and cheating / hacking characters. We know they wanted to make SP / MP a seamless experience. However, their methods of addressing these things however is pissing off their fan base / customers. Not a smart thing to do. If they continue on this path, I won't be spending my hard earned funds on any future games of theirs.
Diablo II had a far better roll-out than this, and I think DII will probably wind up out-shining and out-living its progeny, despite its dated graphics and all. At least that game could be be installed more or less without issue and played regardless of whether or not you were connected to the internet.

So as I understand things, the full game provides you with Starter Edition keys to hand out to people that give access to the game client and the beta's content. Seeing as my copy of D3 is still in transit until Thursday, perhaps some kind soul send me one so I can download the client and play the "demo" version for the time being? I'm Maktaka#1138.
I finally got the damn thing working. After 4th time I reached the hero list thing it worked and I could make a character and play. Took about 5 hours or so since I opened the box. Now I have played quite a bit with my monk.I donno how the acts and such work so all I can say is that I just found my first goat men. I don't understand how the skill system work yet. I thought those runes where objects to pick up, but rather I get option to put them on skills sometimes when I level up. :S
So far the difficulty has felt like kindergarten except for bosses. The skills are mostly nice so far. I like the rune enchanted deadly reach (the punch-far-away skill). Making melee attacks have a little range and make them piercing with very nice looking FX.
I played for 4 hours last night - not yet completed ACT 1.
Here's my quick review, with no mention of the overloaded server login issues, which speak for themselves. I'm going to shamelessly refer to Diablo 2 because I loved the game. I have also tried to avoid a lot of the publicity for the game, as I didn't want the surprise of playing to be spoilt, so forgive me if I mention obvious things.
Presentation
The typical level of polish you would expect from a Blizzard game. From the character dialog box illustrations to the login screenseverything looks fantastic. It's darker than I expected, which is good - however there's still something about it which is very reminiscent of WOW and even Warcraft III. Perhaps it uses the same engine - but as a WOW and WCIII veteran, it felt very familiar. The art direction, however so far, as lacked the gritty edge that I enjoyed in D2. I see no torture chambers, dismembered corpses, etc.
Mood
As mentioned above, the 'mood', which is hard to define, has not yet grabbed me like D2 did. At no point yet have I felt the same feeling of heart-in-the mouth terror as I did when I ran into the unavoidable Butcher for the first time. Perhaps because my brain and imagination had to do a lot of heavy lifting in D2, this may be the case, it's hard to know. I'm still in Act 1 and at no point is it daytime yet - that's a good move so far! But the feeling of hopelessness which D2 gave me is not yet obvious. And unlike D2, everything I have seen so far, I feel I have 'seen it all before'. There's nothing new here. Perhaps we are all spoiled by great RPGs now, and this is just an effect of that?
Itemisation
I know I'm only in act 1, but the itemisation seems quite poor in comparison at least, to act 1 in D2. I don't seem to have the same level of customisation for my character that I had as a low level in D2. For example, I can't seem to use a bow as a barbarian. One of the first things as a sorc in D2 I would do is grab a bow! It will be interesting to see how the blacksmith can help me, but so far it's not that exciting. I haven't even found a chipped ruby, and not sure if they're in the game...
Difficulty
I have to see, the 'kindergarten' difficulty Kien mentions above is exactly my feeling. It feels terribly easy. Then again, I only played hardcore on D2, and didn't feel the game began properly until Nightmare, so I may be biased. But it still feels way to easy. I wish there was some possiblity of ramping up the difficulty. Perhaps Inferno will answer my prayers.
Skills
This feels like a real balls-up to me. I've leveled up half a dozen times, but don't feel like there is ANY customisation I can do as far as my skills go. I'm just given my a skill as I level and that's it. The rune system looks like it may show promise, but part of the fun of D2 was planning your build, and looking forward to what you could do and making choices around it. This new system just doesn't appeal to me at all. I really don't like that I can't allocate stats either. I was one of those always trying experimental builds in D2, and I just can't do it here. I guess it dramatically reduces server load for Battlenet though.... but I feel that there will be no differentiation between me and another online player at all, apart from our items.
Gameplay
The heart of the gameplay of course, is combat. Apart from the lack of difficulty, the combat feels like it's a lot of fun - it's responsive, fluid and the clickfest I remember. I can't wait to try the other classes to see how this goes.
Environment Algorithm
This is another big let-down, at least in Act 1. The whole environment feels very narrow. It's mostly in small corridors - even when you're outside! - and I really miss the big open areas of D2. The way it's rendered generally, looks fantastic, but the algorithm behind it really doesn't make me feel like I'm part of a larger world. I am an 'explorer' though, so perhaps it's just me.
Overall, I'm enjoying it. Just not as much as I hoped I would. But hey - I'm only in Act1, so it can only get better, right?
Concerning skills this might be of interest to people playing, I've not yet got Diablo so I'm not quite sure what the game actually does before elective modes turned off.
Anyway figured it might be worth pointing out just in case anyone's not aware of this:

All that link does is enable you to move your skill actionbar button around (which is another nuts decision on behalf of Blizzard).
With regards to the skill system, I think you need to play it first. I don't think you will like it.
Yeah, kinda annoying how elective mode was off by default, technical difficulties aside I'm loving the monk, my roundhouse kick is on fire! It's like if Chuck Norris were a 5'5'' blonde chick.
Edit: Just to clarify, elective mode lets you assign any combo of skills to your 6 buttons, rather than one of each type (builder/spender/defensive etc).
Hm, game runs perfect so far, with a small exception. Speaking of which:
East coasters - after the maintenance was over, what was your latency like? Before the maintenance I had 100 ping and butter smooth gameplay. After maintenance, ping oscillates between 300-500 which is causing an annoying amount of desync.
As an East coaster, I can confirm thisAfter maintenance, ping oscillates between 300-500 which is causing an annoying amount of desync.![]()
Alright, nap time then. Hopefully Blizzard will fix this by tommorow. Other than the ping, I like it. Difficulty is still stupid easy, but I am starting to see the spectre of "lol HC players" - terraforming attacks are actually deadly, Jailor doesn't need to hit you to activate, ranged enemy attacks are dangerous, charging cows look like easy "gonna one shot you if you don't dodge" material for Inferno.
I note that now the 'Blizzard family of websites' is down.
Ouch. Somebody really needs a bit of a dressing down for this. What was the point of stress testing?

Have had a fun day with the game. Played with Novaburn and SteelFaith, though not at the same time, sadly. Steel was having connection troubles, but I had a full green connection status all day, except when the servers were down for maintenance.
I'm thinking it's good to live 40 miles away from Blizzard HQ.
That's vaguely understandable. But I just spoke to another East Coast player who had perfect connection all day, even during most of the "maintenance" periods when the servers weren't actually taken down. That, that offends me.

Anyone else notice that the server that's been up all day is the Asia server?
I bet the Koreans have been DOSing the other servers to make sure they beat everything first![]()

Slightly incorrect.
For one thing, it allows my demon huntress to have impale, chakrams, and rapid fire at the same time, which are all in the same category of spells "Secondary".

I just saw the server status page. to think i wanted to go home early today. =/

They keep performing "Emergency Maintenance" but I'm not having any problems with the game when it's running, so how bad an "emergency" can it be? Fuck everyone else, I want to play![]()
Great, their estimate for the NA servers is two hours from now. Gonna find something else to do.
Maybe I will get to play after dinner. Hopefully. Maybe....

Servers up just in time. XD
I can't say I am dissatisfied at all, owing to the fact that the game only goes down when I'm not interested in playing.
I think I'll ask for this game later. Like in November when my next Birthday rolls around, not just for the server stuff, but because they'll have released a number of stability patches and whatnot in that amount of time. Hopefully.
For those concerned with Normals lack of differculty. Im on Nightmare atm and when it comes to normal about the only enemies to give me issue was bezerkers, They hit like a train so careful around them.
The bosses were jokes, hated how comical the act1 boss looked also, as for Nightmare mode it does get alot harder. IM lvl 34 and im struggling to kill zombie packs before being overwealmed. And dont even get me started on the rare and unique monster packs. Watch out for extra fast, minion & enchanted arcane. (Enchanted arcane, summons a little purple ball which puts out a laser which rotates. The minions can spawn them too. They murder you so bad.
You definatly have to put alot more thought into how you engage your targets and before you do try and see which enchants the rares have dont just charge in. Im mostly covered in rares with lvl 3 gems within them to.
