Diablo 3

    @Guilliman

if you have a champ pack that is too difficult you can avoid them (simply outrun them or kite them in a corner and die there) so you do not loose the NV buff. Are you playing zero vit force armor wizard? I play a battle mage (spectral blades and blizzard) and have act1 basically on farm status, but act 2 is horrendous.

Apparently getting your account hacked is your own fault. Blizzard's official stance is "hey, it's not our fault!" Clearly it's you that's a silly billy Paladin, you internet n00b you.

    Edit:

Also, as pointed out in some random comment somewhere - there's a hell of a lot of services on the internet that deal with a lot more important stuff than a computer game, and they don't require a separate program to install as protection. Some do, like banks suggest, but that's really about it. Is a Diablo 3 account as valuable as your bank account? No. And before you comment on it being real money (eventually) - it'll be your credit card in the end, much like many many many other sites that store your credit card details. They don't have security programs required. You guys seriously going to start using real money on this thing?

Agreed there'd have to be some radical change until I would be ready to trust my real money with the Battle.net service. But what you're forgetting is that a lot of these items/accounts have real world value.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011...et-gaming-scam

Chinese prisoners grinding 12 hour shifts for 470-570 GBP a day. Holy shit.
And earlier in the thread a writer on a site who reported his D3 account getting hacked had his account sold to an "Anna"

There will always be people who will pay good, real money for items and resources, and even whole accounts. People might not know this stuff was stolen, in fact I doubt it. The items/gold just get fed back into the economy and the thieves go away richer, and it's much quicker to do than grinding out 12 hours a day, or starting your own gulag.

@ TESB, no they were camping the entrance first mob pack was them :/ couldn't even run far enough to dump them anywhere. I'm not using energy armor mechanics, they nerfed it in last hotfix.

I cleared act 1 now, very easy if rares/elites arent too bad combinations. Skeleton king has a lot of health though, fight was long and boring :/

You know what I might do? Have a couple low level Characters who hold some of the rarest stuff. Keep them different low levels. If I get session hacked it seems they don't even bother touching the low level characters. One being lvl 10 and the other lvl 6. Make it look like I tried them out and then left them alone.

I believe stash space is shared between all characters on one account. So that's wouldn't work?

    @ Nalkor

Cool, allow people to dupe stuff horribly. Most things are double edged. Online only is double edged. If online only had no problems, everyone would love it. I was reading that article from Rockpapershotgun about it, and this guy in the industry said as much, and I agree. In fact, it was the article you posted:

“Diablo III will make everyone else accept the fact you have to be connected. If you have a juggernaut, you can make change. I’m all for that. If we could force people to always be connected when you play the game, and then have that be acceptable, awesome. In the end, it’s better for everybody. Imagine picking up a game and it’s automatically updated. Or there’s something new you didn’t know about, and you didn’t have to click away. It’s all automatically there. But it does take juggernauts like [Diablo III] to make change.”

@Codex: yeah, I realise this involves things of real value but so does my amazon account. And that works fine. Without a special program. With things worth tons more.

And, seriously, is nobody bothered by Blizzard's reaction to this? How comes they get such a gratuitous free pass with all this?

You steal real money on the scale that these people do=> police gets involved=> you are a criminal => might go to prison.
You steal items from people, and make money off that=> at worst you get caught by Blizzard=> you get banned.

No, this is nowhere near ideal. But people want to make users a target because they think it's relatively safe pickings.

Frankly, if people's claims are true, then Blizzard's behaviour has been terrible. That said, they are not wholly to blame. They had a vision, it got carried out, people want to come and exploit other people.

Is that not what always happens?

WTF, Error 37 all over again? AGAIN? Blizzard, sort your shit out, dammit, I'm getting pissed off not being able to play 50% of the time!

  12. #912
A vision? Was their vision to implement terrible DRM/hack protection, that even don´t work?

It´s again Server kicking time btw. At least I have stable and fast connection where I live now, but it seems this isn´t true for Blizzard. But maybe they need the 10 bucks extra they charge for just half the game D2 was (D3 hasn´t a SP mode, I learned here ) to upgrade their servers and move them to a location with stable connections

But hey, everybody wins at the end.

Tough luck that I´m not everybody

    Edit: @ Malachy

Yep same here. I finally made it to nightmare, despite many disruptions, and just want to give it a try, barely made out of Tristam before the ancient beast of Error 3007 stopped me.

I know nothing about hacking and protection against hacking- the only thing I do know is how they encrypt data for banks (with two very large prime numbers in order to create a unique key). So I can't debate hack protection. I'm sure they could've made it more secure, but what online system is totally secure, especially when it's all new and largely untested in the real world?

Blue helmets have no real power, just check on the servers once every hour. before I logged off I noticed the Ah went down. Perhaps that had something to do with it?

I know, just grasping at every straw I get ;-)

    Edit:

Looks like you can log in and play again but AH still down.

meh inferno is just a big grindfest for the gear with:
    primary stat/all resist/vitality

they could fix a lot of the boring endgame by making uniques and sets worthwhile and stop dropping hell items in inferno, but currently its just grinding for money to spend on the AH. crafting is way to expensive to be worthwhile.

  22. #922
    GRRARRHAAARRRH!

I'm irritated. I spent about 30 minutes gathering 45k to make a buyout bid on a level 15 amulet (Rare, +3-6 damage, +6% attack speed, +5 life per hit, 14% gold find, and a socket). A bit steep, but the low level amulet market doesn't see a lot of sockets, so the prices are high.

The bid timed out, so I tried again, and got "Error 31073", tried to make a normal bid, "Error 31071". I can buy anything else I want (I tried, picked up a cheap item with a buyout order to see if it was working), but I can't buy the item I want! It's driving me nuts

Also, the fact that you can't search for items with +damage pisses me off to no end.

Pal I think there is a Damage one, I could have sworn I saw it. But it was for only rings and amulets. I could be wrong. I'll have to check when I get home.

Pal what was the time left on the amulet? I have found blanks and expired showing up. Blanks (which seem like expired accutions that have not been pulled off the list correctly) will allow you to still try and buy out but it errors them out.

Err, you can, it's called "All Damage." It's like the first thing on the list.

    Incidentally, inferno balance incoming:

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5149180916#15

Too late though, people who abused the super builds got into later acts and put tremendously powerful gear on the AH. I wonder how they will account for that in the balancing.

  25. #925
Yeah... Try actually using the "All Damage" filter on amulets or rings. It doesn't work.

Not that you can right now. Auction House is offline.

And I'd just seen that the item I wanted had finally shown up in my completed tab as "failed", so I might have had a chance at buying it again, but I'd bought other crap in the mean time, so I had to farm up some more gold with my monk, which I did, and then I left the game to buy the item, and the AH was offline.

    FUCK.

    I have a special request.
I would like to acquire a >450 dps 2h crossbow with +40%crit damage (crit damage, not chance) and maybe an empty socket or two, if anyone has one available.
    E=mc^(OMG)/wtf

Well then I'm running into a bug that you're not, because I've tried to filter using "All Damage" on multiple occasions, and it always returns an empty list, even when the list I was looking at before I changed that one filter had items with +damage.

I had this happen with differrent affixes, not just +damage. The search will sometimes not include items that clearly do fit into your filters... really lame.

  30. #930
Fucking hell. AH is finally back, but the selection is bare as fuck. I can only assume they terminated any non-completed auctions when they started the maintenance. There's almost nothing on there, and what is there are mostly "sold" entries.

  31. #931
I had running auctions (selling) all still online.

  32. #932
Yes but you live in Euroland and have a different auction house

I checked the "All Damage" filter again... I discovered that it only works on level 60 items, which have their damage bonus listed as "+x minimum damage", whereas lower level items always just say "+x-y damage". The "All Damage" filter will not find the latter, at least not for me. It's not an inconsistent bug, it's a 100% reproduce issue.

  33. #933
Regarding the AH: If compare DPS, the tool-tip of my current equip weapons shows less dps than in-game. I am wielding currently a 76 dps one handed spears with my wizard, the AH says it only has 52.

Has anyone an explanation for that or is it a bug?

Gem socket with ruby for dmg boost?

  35. #935
Speaking of which, all the gear on the market that has gems still socketed would be funny except that I have to figure it's stuff that's been hacker-looted.

  36. #936
Gem socket with ruby for dmg boost?
Good guess it has one and the number range fit´s too. So the AH tool tip on your currently equipped weapon doesn´t show DPS increase by ruby´s, good to know.

Oh no, if a ruby isnt inside the wep it wont show the dps rise. Weapon dmg varies thats why the higher dps weps cost more. but just get what you can afford and socket a ruby.

I must be lucky as fuck. Everytime I go to play I never have any issues. Although the AH was down for a couple of hours last night.

In other news, a friendly warning for those not wanting random friends joining your games. You need to go into options -> Social -> uncheck the 'Quick Join' option. I was happily playing solo and a chap on my friends list just suddenly joined my game. No warning, no nothing. Slightly irritating that this is on by default.

Clearly Blizz needs to buff Demon Hunters.

-Im also sick of using public games because IM always grouped into afkers who just idle intown. I quit try again with apprantly 200ppl in the quest yet im always grouped with the same 3 afkers. Annoying.

  41. #941
Uhh, the afkers in town may very well be the hackers who are trying to find out your session ID so they can send that ID as their own and do something to update it, kicking you off and allowing them to take all your stuff, all the while the server and such think it's totally legit.

  42. #942

Just odd that the tool tip in game shows the dps increase, while the AH not, quite confusing. So as soon as the dps shown in the AH is higher for the weapon you want to buy, youre good to go as long as the new weapons has the same or more
amount of gem slots. (if higher dps is the only thing you are looking for).

All the hacking BS going on here, I am glad that I only play solo games and have no one ony my battle net friends list who could join

I wouldn't play in a public game if you paid me. If I want to play co-op I've got friends & dolts I can join up with. I don't need to mingle with the drecks of the diablo community.

Oh, and as for items in the auction house with gems in the sockets: I always socket gems in the stuff I sell. Since you can buy gems up to about radiant quality for cheap, I see no reason not to stick them in items I'm selling. It's a small extra incentive to buy my stuff over the empty items. I try to stick to what makes sense. Rubies in weapons and other gems stuck in where they make sense. For example, if a piece of armour already boots vitality I'll stick an amythest in it. Item has a dexterity boost? It gets an emerald. And so on. Between this and my fairly reasonable buyout pricing I've been selling everything I put up no problem.

    ----------

Regarding the account hacking that's going on: I find it all quite confusing to be honest.

Blizzard and their legions of devotees are insisting that all investigated instances of hacked account have shown "traditional methods" of hacking, such as key-logging. Additionally they claim that no one using their authenticator has been hacked yet. And of course anyone claiming to have been hacked while having an authenticator enabled is being called a liar, by the legions of course, not Blizzard directly that I've seen.

What blows my mind is that this line of reasoning implies that people are getting key-loggers thrown on their systems simply to obtain battle.net information. Seems you could get far more valuable information from a system than that if you're going to bother with a logger in the first place. Then again, there's a significant difference between ripping off a persons digital items in a game and stealing their credit card information from a legal standpoint. I don't know, seems an odd thing to target for the trouble.

Then of course there are the claims of session hijacking. These don't involve passwords or authenticator codes at all and imply issues on Blizzards end, which runs quite contrary to their claims of it all happening on the client end. If any of the sessions hijacking turns out to be true, I wonder if Blizzard will admit to it or simply fix the server side security and pretend nothing ever happened. And honestly, if the only problem is session hijacking, then that begs the question of why people have been claiming to have had their battle.net passwords changed on top of having their items and gold stripped? I wouldn't think altering passwords is something you'd be capable of just by hijacking a players session ID.

Something tells me the truth sits somewhere in the middle. While I wouldn't be surprised that sessions are getting hijacked because of a hole in Blizzards server security, I'd also wager that there are a bunch of people out there with potentially poor PC security habits getting hacked via loggers as well. Either way, I've changed my password for battle.net and my email account, added the authenticator to battle.net and told it to prompt at every login, and of course as I said in my last post: I stay the fuck away from public games.

There are other methods of gaining your battlenet information besides keyloggers. Such as all the shitty emails that claim to be from blizzard that link to spoof battlenet sites and ask you to login. Some of them are pretty swish too, not just your normal bunch of text and a link. People also play in internet/game cafes which I would imagine are far from secure.

Yeah, but I'm seeing stuff on the marketplace with Flawless Square and higher gems still socketed, gems that would cost 15k+ a piece on the marketplace by themselves. I can't help but think that's not something the average user would do deliberately.

Those are some high quality gems to leave in an item. I'd guess if you crafted it yourself it wouldn't matter or if you're selling the item at a high enough buyout to cover the gems cost. Still, anything better than a radiant does seem off if you're seeing a ton of them. I've been mostly selling lately though and always set my search for low buyout prices, so haven't seen these sorts of things myself.

Flawless squares drop in hell btw. Ive got plenty, Im having to vendor all my gems beneath raident to make room. The lower levels arnt worth keeping the further you get into the game. Not even to make into the next level gems as it costs alot more to make then it does to buy a bunch from the AH.

Ah. Well I haven't even gotten through act I on nightmare yet, so to me radiants and under are the gem qualities I deal with most right now. Tonight is a game night though, the two guys I play with most ought to be around, so maybe I'll finally go kill nightmare skeleton king.

Assuming I don't go level my monk or witch doctor more instead.

Was just afew moments ago disconnected from my accuont saying someone else using another computer logged in. And like 15mins before this I had some chinese person want to add me as a friend. Fucking chinese man. Seriously and I cannot change my password atm because the fuckign blizz websites are undergoing maintence. Im pissed.
Feel im correct in thinking this too because for this chinese to transfer my gold and gear he'd need to add me as a friend. Which he sent me the request. So all he had to do was log into my account and add himself. then transfer. So glad I was online to catch this bastard out.
Defo soemthing to do with Public games and the chinese having your ID, I can see why others have drawn the conclusion that your account is accessed through the blizz servers. it makes the most sense to me as I am very careful when surfing online.

    -STAY AWAY FROM PUBLIC GAMES!-

    -EDIT-

    http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2483/ggblizzgg.jpg

In the space of 15secs My monk was stripped bare. Good Game Blizzard.
Whats the refund policy of this game does anyone know? I want a refund, no use in playing an ONLINE ONLY game were any account that joins a public game -THE CO-OP side blizz want to force in peoples faces- isnt safe from hackers.
