I had some ideas in the past of how to improve HW2 like:

    Spoiler

But a lot of them were almost impossible for me to make, so i got to work and did the ones that were possible for me in the HW2 engine:

I made a lot of tweaks to weapons, ship speeds, maneuvers, Ai, more races, but that mod was only personal and was never released because of content permisions.
One of the things that I liked the most was the standard speeds between races (.ex Hiigarans 300 m/s, Vaygr 280 m/s), but always keeping the a normal acceleration ratio, In HW1 ships were faster and that was one of the first things I did't like of HW2.

I love HW1 and HW2 but now when I remember that my mod is not the original HW2 always get a little depressed.

I would like to see stuff like black holes, maybe more nebula's and more Resource types.

Battles taking place at an appreciable portion of the speed of light. LOL

that would be rather hard and dumb i would think.

yeh well its nice to dream. maybe battles between fleets accelerating toward each other at 12g firing missiles that accelerate at 40g. still pretty intense.

one thing i would like to have is to siege planets, and bombard them from orbit. i would love to take a ion canon and rake it across a area populated by flammable things.

this is my idea for a siege. you have a planet, and this planet has multiple "shells", each shell acting as its own battlefield. every shell has its own special Game structure that have there own abilitys (Trojen asteroid groupe, shipyard, gun platform, space station communication array, ect.) the attacking side would attack destroy and or capture the structure (capturing the structure would benefit the attacking team, giving them the structures special abilitys.) the structure could also be scuttled to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. shell ownership would be defigned by ownersip of the structure, if structure was destroied, then the player with the most ships in the shell owned the shell. Going into the innermost shell with a one or a few small ships means certen distructuion by low orbit fleat and planitary defences. a large fleet, made of all ships, would be required. frigets up would be able to bombarde the serfice untill some requirement is ment (key buildings destroyed, head of government killed, total elemination of local population.)

    Hmm a few comments here.

    1. I don't think cataclysm was that bad. I liked it. Or rather most of the things that people disliked I didn't take as harsly. For an RTS to have an allmost monster-horror theme? I think they actually pulled that off rather well. Weird but imho it sorta worked.

    2. For a homeworld prequel, sequel, sidestory, mod or whatnot. I loved all the background story about the different Kithiid and I think it was a shame we didn't get a game centered on the "infighting".

    3. World in conflict was b movie like but they did it good storywise. Ingame well I never got tired of leveling entire cities.

    4. The total war series. Hmm well. I like the fact that its, in some ways, 2 different games. You have your strategic civ/building game and you have the tactical battles game. Turnbased might be old but it can be nice to not be busy constantly throughout a campain.

    5. I dont know if you guys have tried sins of a solar empire but you should try it (it's not perfect but there arent a whole lot of space ship strat games anymore).

Uhm sorry this wasn't as on the op's topic and just became comments and things/games to consider.

EDIT and PS. I'm watching the op's trailer now. One thing just struck me. HW2 is STILL pretty good looking. I know you guys are nostalgic about hw1 but imho graphically it just haven't aged as well as hw2 has.

PPS: Funnily I think it's the same thing with halflife 1 and 2. HL2 still looks quite good today but hl1 looks hopelessly outdated. Atleast to my eyes .

    I think Hw2 is a very masterpiece...

What would YOU improve in Homeworld 2?

    Mmh..

-Gamespy dont support AFK (AFK icon maybe is a good idea ...without kick for time limit when i'm using windows)
    -Maps with number of positions
-Damage when there is explosion near ship
-4v4 (cool ..but maybe = lag)
-Sound messages menu for strategy.... for not use often chat with your mate (as Age of empires 3 )
    -extreme difficulty cpu mode

    and other ....

I hope HW3 similar to HW2 .... some small improvements...
