Will there be anything CoH2 related at Gamescom?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Or even download classic games like Wolfenstein 3d that I only have on 3.5in floppy disk and be able to play them on a new laptop. Now if only Steam would release Wasteland so I could play it again while Wasteland 2 is being developed...i love the fact that i can redownload and play games i lost the disc for years ago
@Ruined, do you know (or are you allowed to say) if CoH2 will be able to be played in the Steam offline mode?

Oh Gorb... First three paragraphs are false, and I don't know why you still try to bring those up when the rebuttals are in this very same thread already. Then ending it with some needlessly condescending speculation, just bothersome.
Not that stating opinions on Steam matters here though. THQ will use it for CoH2 for undisclosed reasons and to a yet to be disclosed extent, that's been known for quite some time now. Complaining about or commending that on a fan forum simply doesn't matter, so I'd advice people like firefish to take those concerns directly to THQ. Their branch in Germany left great impressions those few times I got in touch with them, highly recommended due to personal experience.
Nothing wrong with abstaining when you don't like aspects of a game, but if you don't let the publisher know why, they'll have a hard time correcting such mistakes.
One step closer to the end of the decadent Eldar race.
[...] the reason we don’t like DRM solutions is because they punish the innocent and they have to jump through all these hoops. We don’t want to do that [...]
Sporty,
you are right that posting complaines about strategig decision like using $%&$&% Steam within a fan site will do near to nothing. But that doesn't matter cause it only affects my personal decision to buy or to not to buy a game...
Writing those complains to relic doesn't make sense either cause they wouldn't give a damn to opinions of a I'am ...
All I intended was to express my personal disappointment about the fact that another of my favourite game producer uses this damned steam thing....
If the majority of the gamer can accept such things then it's fine. I'm just a bit commiserate about those facts and regret that I consequentially have to boycott the second part of my all time favourite game.

It will indeed be playable in offline mode.
God Wolfenstein 3D that's a retro purchase i need to make!
In response to the gamescom questions. We are not at the show itself so consumers won't be playing the game but we are showing press code in a business space so expect hands-on impressions to follow.
I bought COH1 on Steam and am able to do just that! There are times when Relic Online's servers go down and I cannot get into the game, which can be frustrating, but it tends to be rather rare. However, that is not Steam's/Valve's fault.
Actually, you can disable automatic updates at any time, so you are never forced to update anything.I don't want forced updates
I am pretty sure that Valve has been doing well with Steam. So, I doubt that they will be disappearing anytime soon. Even if they were, for whatever reason, to shut down at some point in the distant future - which seems unlikely - I am confident that they would figure out a way to ensure that their customers can continue playing the games they have purchased. Also, what restrictions? I have never been barred from playing a game on Steam, outside of server issues (like Relic Online going down). There are actually not that many games that require an always-on internet connection, but these days you're far more likely to have an always-on internet connection. I have a lot of games from 1995 and earlier that I can no longer play because they were not designed to run on 64-bit or have compatibility issues, so those old discs and floppies are becoming less and less usable, anyways.I don't like to buy anything online. I'm playing (few) games since 1995 and simply don't want to hassle with a company like Steam and with all these restrictions... If this §$$%§%$§ company disappears some day you can litter all those expensive games cause you can't play any of them ever again...
I think this is where your opinion actually begins, as the stuff you wrote above is more misinformed than opinionated. You have the right to your own opinion, but I think that you have a lot of misconceptions about Steam that could be easily remedied. Steam is a fine service and, being free (other than game purchases), I am sure that you could appreciate it as many others do if you actually gave it a real chance. If Relic goes this way then I'm out. That's the whole story... Surely nothing Relic will get headaches off but that's not even my goal...![]()
